1 Mose 40

1 Nun begab es sich einige Zeit danach, daß der Mundschenk und der Bäcker des Königs von Ägypten sich gegen ihren Herrn, den König von Ägypten, verfehlten.

And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord the king of Egypt.

2 Da geriet der Pharao über seine beiden Hofbeamten, den Obermundschenken und den Oberbäcker, in Zorn,

And Pharaoh was wroth against his two officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

3 und er ließ sie im Hause des Obersten der Leibwächter in Haft legen, ins Gefängnis, an den Ort, wo auch Joseph gefangen lag.

And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.

4 Der Oberste der Leibwächter aber betraute Joseph mit der Fürsorge für sie, so daß er sie zu bedienen hatte; und so befanden sie sich eine Zeitlang in Haft.

And the captain of the guard charged Joseph to be with them, and he ministered unto them; and they continued a season in ward.

5 Da träumten sie beide in einer und derselben Nacht einen Traum, und zwar jeder einen eigenen Traum von besonderer Bedeutung, der Mundschenk und der Bäcker des Königs von Ägypten, die im Kerker gefangen saßen.

And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.

6 Als nun Joseph am Morgen zu ihnen hineinkam und bemerkte, daß sie mißgestimmt waren,

And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and saw them, and, behold, they were sad.

7 fragte er sie, die beiden Hofbeamten des Pharaos, die sich mit ihm im Hause seines Herrn in Haft befanden: »Warum seht ihr denn heute so mißmutig aus?«

And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his master's house, saying: 'Wherefore look ye so sad to-day?'

8 Sie antworteten ihm: »Wir haben einen Traum gehabt, und nun ist niemand da, der ihn uns deuten könnte.« Da sagte Joseph zu ihnen: »Traumdeutungen sind Sache Gottes: erzählt mir doch eure Träume!«

And they said unto him: 'We have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it.' And Joseph said unto them: 'Do not interpretations belong to God? tell it me, I pray you.'

9 Da erzählte der Obermundschenk dem Joseph seinen Traum folgendermaßen: »In meinem Traume war es mir, als ob ich einen Weinstock vor mir stehen sähe;

And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him: 'In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

10 an diesem Weinstock waren drei Reben; und sowie er anfing zu treiben, brachen auch schon seine Blüten hervor, und die Trauben brachten die Beeren zur Reife.

and in the vine were three branches; and as it was budding, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes,

11 Ich aber hielt den Becher des Pharaos in der Hand, nahm die Trauben, preßte sie aus in den Becher des Pharaos und gab dann den Becher dem Pharao in die Hand.«

and Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.'

12 Da sagte Joseph zu ihm: »Dies ist die Deutung: Die drei Weinreben sind drei Tage;

And Joseph said unto him: 'This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;

13 in drei Tagen von heute ab wird der Pharao dir das Haupt erheben, indem er dich wieder in dein Amt einsetzt, so daß du ihm den Becher in die Hand gibst ganz nach der früheren Weise, als du noch sein Mundschenk warst.

within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head, and restore thee unto thine office; and thou shalt give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.

14 Aber halte dann auch die Erinnerung an mich fest, wenn es dir wieder gut geht, erweise mir dann die Liebe, den Pharao auf mich aufmerksam zu machen, und bringe mich aus diesem Hause hinaus!

But have me in thy remembrance when it shall be well with thee, and show kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house.

15 Denn ich bin aus dem Lande der Hebräer heimlich gestohlen worden und habe auch hier gar nichts begangen, daß man mich in den Kerker geworfen hat.«

For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews; and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.'

16 Als nun der Oberbäcker sah, daß Joseph eine günstige Deutung gegeben hatte, sagte er zu Joseph: »Auch in meinem Traume war es mir, als trüge ich drei Körbe mit feinem Gebäck auf meinem Haupte;

When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph: 'I also saw in my dream, and, behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head;

17 und in dem obersten Korb befanden sich allerlei Eßwaren für den Pharao, wie sie der Bäcker herstellt; aber die Vögel fraßen sie aus dem Korbe auf meinem Haupte weg.«

and in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of baked food for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.'

18 Da sagte Joseph: »Dies ist die Deutung des Traumes: Die drei Körbe sind drei Tage;

And Joseph answered and said: 'This is the interpretation thereof: the three baskets are three days;

19 in drei Tagen von heute ab wird der Pharao dir das Haupt erheben, nämlich dich an einen Baum hängen lassen; da werden dann die Vögel das Fleisch von dir oben wegfressen.«

within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.'

20 Drei Tage später nun war der Geburtstag des Pharaos; da veranstaltete er ein Festmahl für alle seine Diener und erhob seinem Obermundschenken und seinem Oberbäcker das Haupt inmitten seiner Diener;

And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and the head of the chief baker among his servants.

21 den Obermundschenken setzte er wieder in sein Schenkenamt ein, so daß er dem Pharao wieder den Becher zu reichen hatte;

And he restored the chief butler back unto his butlership; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.

22 den Oberbäcker aber ließ er hängen, ganz so, wie Joseph ihnen (die Träume) gedeutet hatte.

But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.

23 Aber der Obermundschenk dachte nicht mehr an Joseph, sondern vergaß ihn.

Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgot him.
