Psalm 81
1 Auf der Gittith, vorzusingen, Asaphs. Singet fröhlich Gott, der unsre Stärke ist; jauchzt dem Gott Jakobs!
Sing aloud to God, our strength! Make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob [Supplanter]!
2 Hebet an mit Psalmen und gebet her die Pauken, liebliche Harfen mit Psalter!
Raise a song, and bring here the tambourine, the pleasant lyre with the harp.
3 Blaset im Neumond die Posaune, in unserm Fest der Laubhütten!
Blow the shofar ·ram horn· at the New Moon, at the full moon, on our feast day.
4 Denn solches ist die Weise in Israel und ein Recht des Gottes Jakobs.
For it is a statute for Israel [God prevails], an judgement of the God of Jacob [Supplanter].
5 Solche hat er zum Zeugnis gesetzt unter Joseph, da sie aus Ägyptenland zogen und fremde Sprache gehört hatten,
He appointed it in Joseph [May he add] for a testimony, when he went out over the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], I sh'ma ·heard obeyed· a language that I didn’t know.
6 da ich ihre Schulter von der Last entledigt hatte und ihre Hände der Körbe los wurden.
“I removed his shoulder from the burden. His hands were freed from the basket.
7 Da du mich in der Not anriefst, half ich dir aus; ich erhörte dich, da dich das Wetter überfiel, und versuchte dich am Haderwasser. (Sela)
You called in trouble, and I delivered you. I answered you in the secret place of thunder. I tested you at the waters of Meribah [Quarreling].” (Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
8 Höre, mein Volk, ich will unter dir zeugen; Israel, du sollst mich hören,
“Sh'ma ·Hear obey·, my people, and I will testify to you, Israel [God prevails], if you would listen to me!
9 daß unter dir kein anderer Gott sei und du keinen fremden Gott anbetest.
There shall be no strange deity in you, neither shall you hawa ·bow low, prostrate· to worship any foreign deity.
10 Ich bin der HERR, dein Gott, der dich aus Ägyptenland geführt hat: Tue deinen Mund weit auf, laß mich ihn füllen!
I am Adonai, your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery]. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 Aber mein Volk gehorcht nicht meiner Stimme, und Israel will mich nicht.
But my people didn’t sh'ma ·hear obey· my voice. Israel [God prevails] desired none of me.
12 So habe ich sie gelassen in ihres Herzens Dünkel, daß sie wandeln nach ihrem Rat.
So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts, that they might walk in their own counsels.
13 Wollte mein Volk mir gehorsam sein und Israel auf meinem Wege gehen,
Oh that my people would sh'ma ·hear obey· me, that Israel [God prevails] would walk in my ways!
14 so wollte ich ihre Feinde bald dämpfen und meine Hand über ihre Widersacher wenden,
I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn my hand against their adversaries.
15 und denen, die den HERRN hassen, müßte es wider sie fehlen; ihre Zeit aber würde ewiglich währen,
The haters of Adonai would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.
16 und ich würde sie mit dem besten Weizen speisen und mit Honig aus dem Felsen sättigen.
But he would have also fed them with the finest of the wheat. I will satisfy you with honey out of the rock.”
