Job 39
1 Weißt du die Zeit, wann die Gemsen auf den Felsen gebären? Oder hast du gemerkt, wann die Hirsche schwanger gehen?
[Say] if you know the time of the bringing forth of the wild goats of the rock, and [if] you have marked the calving of the hinds:
2 Hast du erzählet ihre Monden, wann sie voll werden? Oder weißt du die Zeit, wann sie gebären?
and [if] you has have numbered the full months of their being with young, and [if] you have relieved their pangs:
3 Sie beugen sich, wenn sie gebären, und reißen sich und lassen aus ihre Jungen.
and have reared their young without fear; and will you loosen their pangs?
4 Ihre Jungen werden feist und mehren sich im Getreide; und gehen aus und kommen nicht wieder zu ihnen.
Their young will break forth; they will be multiplied with offspring: [their young] will go forth, and will not return to them.
5 Wer hat das Wild so frei lassen gehen? Wer hat die Bande des Wildes aufgelöset,
And who is he that sent forth the wild ass free? and who loosed his bands?
6 dem ich das Feld zum Hause gegeben habe und die Wüste zur Wohnung?
whereas I made his habitation the wilderness, and the salt land his coverts.
7 Es verlacht das Getümmel der Stadt; das Pochen des Treibers höret es nicht.
He laughs to scorn the multitude of the city, and hears not the chiding of the tax-gatherer.
8 Es schauet nach den Bergen, da seine Weide ist, und suchet, wo es grün ist.
He will survey the mountains [as] his pasture, and he seeks after every green thing.
9 Meinest du, das Einhorn werde dir dienen und werde bleiben an deiner Krippe?
And will the unicorn be willing to serve you, or to lie down at your manger?
10 Kannst du ihm dein Joch anknüpfen, die Furchen zu machen, daß es hinter dir brache in Gründen?
And will you bind his yoke with thongs, or will he plow furrows for you in the plain?
11 Magst du dich auf es verlassen, daß es so stark ist, und wirst es dir lassen arbeiten?
And do you trust him, because his strength is great? and will you commit your works to him?
12 Magst du ihm trauen, daß es deinen Samen dir wiederbringe und in deine Scheune sammle?
And will you believe that he will return to you your seed, and bring [it] in [to] your threshing floor?
13 Die Federn des Pfauen sind schöner denn die Flügel und Federn des Storchs,
The peacock has a beautiful wing: if the stork and the ostrich conceive, [it is worthy of notice],
14 der seine Eier auf der Erde lässet und läßt sie die heiße Erde ausbrüten.
for [the ostrich] will leave her eggs in the ground, and warm them on the dust,
15 Er vergisset, daß sie möchten zertreten werden und ein wild Tier sie zerbreche.
and has forgotten that the foot will scatter them, and the wild beasts of the field trample them.
16 Er wird so hart gegen seine Jungen, als wären sie nicht sein, achtet es nicht, daß er umsonst arbeitet.
She has hardened [herself] against her young ones, as though [she bereaved] not herself: she labors in vain without fear.
17 Denn Gott hat ihm die Weisheit genommen und hat ihm keinen Verstand mitgeteilet.
For God has withholden wisdom from her, and not given her a portion in understanding.
18 Zu der Zeit, wenn er hoch fähret, erhöhet er sich und verlachet beide Roß und Mann.
In her season she will lift herself on high; she will scorn the horse and his rider.
19 Kannst du dem Roß Kräfte geben, oder seinen Hals zieren mit seinem Geschrei?
Hast you invested the horse with strength, and clothed his neck with terror?
20 Kannst du es schrecken wie die Heuschrecken? Das ist Preis seiner Nase, was schrecklich ist.
And have you clad him in perfect armor, and made his breast glorious with courage?
21 Es stampfet auf den Boden und ist freudig mit Kraft und zeucht aus den Geharnischten entgegen.
He paws exulting in the plain, and goes forth in strength into the plain.
22 Es spottet der Furcht und erschrickt nicht und fleucht vor dem Schwert nicht,
He laughs to scorn a king as he meets him, and will by no means turn back from the sword.
23 wenngleich wider es klinget der Köcher und glänzet beide Spieß und Lanze.
The bow and sword resound against him; and [his] rage will swallow up the ground:
24 Es zittert und tobet und scharret in die Erde und achtet nicht der Trommeten Hall.
and he will not believe until the trumpet sounds.
25 Wenn die Trommete fast klinget, spricht es: Hui! und riecht den Streit von ferne, das Schreien der Fürsten und Jauchzen.
And when the trumpet sounds, he says, Aha! and afar off he smells the war with prancing and neighing.
26 Fleuget der Habicht durch deinen Verstand und breitet seine Flügel gegen Mittag?
And does the hawk remain steady by your wisdom, having spread out her wings unmoved, looking toward the region of the south?
27 Fleuget der Adler auf deinen Befehl so hoch, daß er sein Nest in der Höhe macht?
And does the eagle rise at your command, and the vulture remain sitting over his nest,
28 In Felsen wohnet er und bleibt auf den Klippen an Felsen und in festen Orten.
on a crag of a rock, and in a secret [place]?
29 Von dannen schauet er nach der Speise, und seine Augen sehen ferne.
Thence he seeks food, his eyes observe from far.
30 Seine Jungen saufen Blut; und wo ein Aas ist, da ist er.
And his young ones roll themselves in blood, and wherever the carcasses may be, immediately they are found.
