Zephanja 2
1 Beugt euch und bleibt gebeugt, Volk ohne Scham,
Assemble yourselves, yes, assemble, O nation not desired;
2 bevor ihr wie Spreu werdet, die dahinfährt, bevor die Glut des Zornes Jahwes über euch hereinbricht, bevor der Tag des Zornes Jahwes über euch hereinbricht!
Before the decree bringeth forth, [before] the day passeth as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD cometh upon you, before the day of the LORD'S anger cometh upon you.
3 Sucht Jahwe, alle ihr Demütigen im Lande, die sein Recht üben! Befleißigt euch der Gerechtigkeit, befleißigt euch der Demut: vielleicht werdet ihr am Tage des Zornes Jahwes geborgen!
Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, who have performed his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye will be hid in the day of the LORD'S anger.
4 Denn Gaza wird zur Einöde werden, und Askalon zur Wüste. Asdod - am hellen Mittage wird man es austreiben, und Ekron wird von Grund aus zerstört werden.
For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.
5 Wehe euch, die ihr den Landstrich am Meere bewohnt, ihr vom Kretervolke! Wider euch ist Jahwes Wort gerichtet, Kanaan, Land der Philister! Ja, ich werde dich vernichten, entvölkern!
Woe to the inhabitants of the sea coasts, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD [is] against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.
6 Und es soll Kreta zu Auen für Hirten werden und zu Hürden für Schafe.
And the sea coast shall be dwellings [and] cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks.
7 Dann wird der Landstrich am Meere dem Überreste des Hauses Juda zufallen: sie werden darauf weiden; in den Häusern Askalons werden sie sich am Abende lagern. Denn Jahwe, ihr Gott, wird sie heimsuchen und ihr Geschick wenden.
And the coasts shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed upon them: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God will visit them, and turn away their captivity.
8 Ich habe die Beschimpfung Moabs gehört und die Lästerung der Ammoniter, womit sie mein Volk beschimpften und groß thaten wider sein Gebiet.
I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, by which they have reproached my people, and magnified [themselves] against their border.
9 Darum, so wahr ich lebe - ist der Spruch Jahwes der Heerscharen, des Gottes Israels, - es soll Moab wie Sodom ergehen und den Ammonitern wie Gomorrha; ein Besitztum der Nesseln sollen sie werden und eine Salzgrube und eine Einöde für immer. Der Überrest meines Volkes soll sie ausplündern, und was übrig geblieben von meiner Nation, soll sie beerben.
Therefore [as] I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, [even] the breeding of nettles, and salt-pits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall lay them waste, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.
10 Solches widerfährt ihnen für ihren Stolz, daß sie gehöhnt und groß gethan haben wider das Volk Jahwes der Heerscharen.
This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified [themselves] against the people of the LORD of hosts.
11 Jahwe wird sich furchtbar an ihnen erweisen, denn er läßt dahinsiechen alle Götter der Erde, daß ihn anbeten, ein jeder von seinem Ort aus, alle Inseln der Heiden.
The LORD [will be] terrible to them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and [men] shall worship him, every one from his place, [even] all the isles of the heathen.
12 Auch ihr, Kuschiten, werdet von meinem Schwert erschlagen!
Ye Cushites also, ye [shall be] slain by my sword.
13 Und er wird seine Hand nach Norden hin ausstrecken und Assur verderben. Und er wird Nineve zur Einöde machen, ausgedörrt der Wüste gleich,
And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, [and] dry like a wilderness.
14 daß mitten darin Herden lagern, allerlei Getier des Feldes: Pelikan und Rohrdommel werden auf seinen Säulenknäufen nächtigen. Horch! da singt's im Fensterloch! Trümmerhaufen auf der Schwelle, denn ihr Cedernwerk hat man bloßgelegt!
And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; [their] voice shall sing in the windows; desolation [shall be] in the threshholds: for he shall uncover the cedar work.
15 Ist das die fröhliche Stadt, die so sicher thronte, die in ihrem Sinne dachte: Ich bin's und niemand sonst? Wie ist sie doch ein Gegenstand des Entsetzens geworden, eine Lagerstätte für das Wild; wer irgend an ihr vorüberzieht, zischt, schwingt höhnisch seine Hand!
This [is] the rejoicing city that dwelt in security, that said in her heart, I [am], and [there is] none besides me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, [and] wag his hand.
