Psalm 91

1 Wohl dem, der im Schirme des Höchsten sitzt, im Schatten des Allmächtigen weilt,

HE that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 der zu Jahwe spricht: “Meine Zuflucht und meine Burg, mein Gott, auf den ich vertraue!”

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Denn er errettet dich aus der Schlinge des Vogelstellers, aus der verderblichen Pest.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 Mit seinem Fittige bedeckt er dich, und unter seinen Flügeln birgst du dich: seine Treue ist Schild und Schirm.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Du brauchst dich nicht zu fürchten vor dem Grauen der Nacht, noch vor dem Pfeil, der am Tage fliegt,

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 vor der Pest, die im Finstern schleicht, vor der Seuche, die am hellen Mittag verwüstet.

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 Ob tausend zu deiner Seite fallen, und zehntausend zu deiner Rechten, an dich tritt sie nicht heran.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Vielmehr, mit eignen Augen wirst du es schauen und sehen, wie den Gottlosen vergolten wird,

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

9 weil du gesagt hast: “Du, Jahwe, bist meine Zuflucht”, den Höchsten zu deiner Schutzwehr gemacht hast.

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 Es wird dir kein Unheil begegnen, noch eine Plage deinem Zelte nahen.

There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 Denn er wird seine Engel für dich entbieten, daß sie dich auf allen deinen Wegen behüten.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 Auf den Händen werden sie dich tragen, daß du mit deinem Fuße nicht an einen Stein stoßest.

They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Über Löwen und Ottern wirst du schreiten, junge Löwen und Drachen zertreten.

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 “Weil er an mir hängt, so will ich ihn erretten, will ihn erhöhen, weil er meinen Namen kennt.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 “Er wird mich anrufen, und ich werde ihn erhören; ich bin bei ihm in der Not: ich will ihn herausreißen und zu Ehren bringen.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 “Mit langem Leben will ich ihn sättigen und ihn schauen lassen mein Heil!”

With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
