Psalm 78
1 Ein Maskil Asaphs. Vernimm, mein Volk, meine Unterweisung, neigt euer Ohr den Worten meines Mundes!
A Psalme to give instruction committed to Asaph. Heare my doctrine, O my people: incline your eares vnto the wordes of my mouth.
2 Ich will meinen Mund zu Sprüchen aufthun, will Rätsel aus der Vorzeit verkünden.
I will open my mouth in a parable: I will declare high sentences of olde.
3 Was wir gehört und erfahren, und was unsere Väter uns erzählt haben,
Which we haue heard and knowen, and our fathers haue tolde vs.
4 wollen wir ihren Kindern nicht verhehlen, indem wir dem nachfolgenden Geschlechte die ruhmwürdigen Thaten Jahwes erzählen und seine Macht und die Wunder, die er gethan hat.
Wee will not hide them from their children but to the generation to come we wil shewe the praises of the Lord his power also, and his wonderful woorkes that he hath done:
5 Er stellte ein Zeugnis in Jakob auf und gab eine Weisung in Israel, indem er unseren Vätern gebot, sie ihren Söhnen kundzuthun,
How he established a testimonie in Iaakob, and ordeined a Law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they shoulde teache their children:
6 damit das nachkommende Geschlecht sie erführe, die Söhne, die geboren würden, damit sie aufträten und ihren Söhnen davon erzählten,
That the posteritie might knowe it, and the children, which should be borne, should stand vp, and declare it to their children:
7 damit sie auf Gott ihr Vertrauen setzten und der großen Thaten Gottes nicht vergäßen und seine Gebote hielten
That they might set their hope on God, and not forget the workes of God but keepe his commandements:
8 und nicht wie ihre Väter würden, ein abtrünniges und widerspenstiges Geschlecht, ein Geschlecht, das nicht festes Sinnes war, und dessen Geist nicht treulich an Gott hielt.
And not to bee as their fathers, a disobedient and rebellious generation: a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirite was not faithfull vnto God.
9 Die Söhne Ephraims, die Bogengerüsteten, kehrten am Tage des Kampfes um.
The children of Ephraim being armed and shooting with the bowe, turned backe in the day of battell.
10 Sie hielten den Bund Gottes nicht und wollten nicht nach seinem Gesetze wandeln.
They kept not the couenant of God, but refused to walke in his Lawe,
11 Sie vergaßen seine großen Thaten und seine Wunder, die er sie hatte schauen lassen.
And forgate his Actes, and his wonderfull woorkes that he had shewed them.
12 Vor ihren Vätern hatte er Wunder gethan in Ägypten, im Gefilde von Zoan.
Hee did marueilous thinges in the sight of their fathers in the lande of Egypt: euen in the fielde of Zoan.
13 Er spaltete das Meer und ließ sie hindurchgehn und stellte die Wasser auf wie einen Damm.
He deuided the Sea, and led them through: he made also the waters to stand as an heape.
14 Er leitete sie tagsüber mit der Wolke, die ganze Nacht hindurch mit feurigem Schein.
In the day time also hee led them with a cloude, and all the night with a light of fire.
15 Er spaltete Felsen in der Wüste und tränkte sie wie mit Fluten in Fülle.
He claue the rockes in the wildernes, and gaue them drinke as of the great depths.
16 Er ließ Bäche aus dem Felsen hervorgehn und Wasser in Strömen herabfließen.
He brought floods also out of the stonie rocke; so that hee made the waters to descend like the riuers.
17 Dennoch sündigten sie weiter gegen ihn, indem sie sich in der Wüste gegen den Höchsten empörten.
Yet they sinned stil against him, and prouoked the Highest in the wildernesse,
18 Sie versuchten Gott in ihrem Herzen, indem sie Speise für ihr Gelüsten forderten.
And tempted God in their heartes in requiring meate for their lust.
19 Sie redeten wider Gott und sprachen: “Kann wohl Gott in der Wüste einen Tisch anrichten?
They spake against God also, saying, Can God prepare a table in the wildernesse?
20 “Wohl schlug er den Felsen, daß Wasser strömten, und Bäche sich ergossen; “vermag er wohl auch Brot zu geben oder seinem Volke Fleisch zu verschaffen?”
Behold, he smote the rocke, that the water gushed out, and the streames ouerflowed: can hee giue bread also? or prepare flesh for his people?
21 Darum, als Jahwe das hörte, entrüstete er sich, und Feuer entzündete sich wider Jakob, und Zorn stieg herauf über Israel,
Therefore the Lord heard and was angrie, and the fire was kindled in Iaakob, and also wrath came vpon Israel,
22 weil sie Gotte nicht glaubten und auf seine Hilfe nicht vertrauten.
Because they beleeued not in God, and trusted not in his helpe.
23 Und er gebot den Wolken droben und öffnete die Thüren des Himmels,
Yet he had comanded the clouds aboue, and had opened the doores of heauen,
24 ließ Manna auf sie regnen, daß sie zu essen hätten, und verlieh ihnen Himmelskorn.
And had rained downe MAN vpon them for to eate, and had giuen them of the wheate of heauen.
25 Engelbrot hatte jedermann zu essen; er sandte ihnen Zehrung in Fülle.
Man did eate the bread of Angels: hee sent them meate ynough.
26 Er ließ den Ostwind am Himmel aufbrechen und führte durch seine Stärke den Südwind herbei.
He caused the Eastwinde to passe in the heauen, and through his power he brought in the Southwinde.
27 Er ließ Fleisch auf sie regnen wie Staub und beflügelte Vögel wie Sand am Meer.
Hee rained flesh also vpon them as dust, and feathered foule as the sand of the sea.
28 Mitten in sein Lager ließ er sie fallen, rings um seine Wohnung her.
And hee made it fall in the middes of their campe euen round about their habitations.
29 Da aßen sie und wurden gründlich satt, und er befriedigte ihr Gelüst.
So they did eate and were well filled: for he gaue them their desire.
30 Noch hatten sie sich ihres Gelüstes nicht entschlagen - sie hatten ihre Speise noch im Mund -
They were not turned from their lust, but the meate was yet in their mouthes,
31 da stieg der Zorn Gottes über sie herauf und würgte unter ihren Fetten und streckte die Jünglinge Israels nieder.
When the wrath of God came euen vpon them, and slew the strongest of them, and smote downe the chosen men in Israel.
32 Trotz alledem sündigten sie weiter und glaubten nicht an seine Wunder.
For all this, they sinned stil, and beleeued not his wonderous woorkes.
33 Darum ließ er ihre Tage wie einen Hauch dahinschwinden und ihre Jahre in bestürzender Schnelle.
Therefore their daies did hee consume in vanitie, and their yeeres hastily.
34 Wenn er sie würgte, so fragten sie nach ihm und wendeten sich zurück zu Gott
And when hee slewe them, they sought him and they returned, and sought God earely.
35 und gedachten daran, daß Gott ihr Fels und Gott, der Höchste, ihr Erlöser sei.
And they remembred that God was their strength, and the most high God their redeemer.
36 Sie beschwatzten ihn mit ihrem Munde und logen ihm mit ihrer Zunge;
But they flattered him with their mouth, and dissembled with him with their tongue.
37 aber ihr Sinn war ihm gegenüber nicht fest, und sie hielten nicht treulich an seinem Bund,
For their heart was not vpright with him: neither were they faithfull in his couenant.
38 während doch er barmherzig war, Schuld vergab und sie nicht vertilgte, gar oft von seinem Zorn abließ und nicht seinen ganzen Grimm aufbot.
Yet he being merciful forgaue their iniquitie, and destroied them not, but oft times called backe his anger, and did not stirre vp all his wrath.
39 Denn er gedachte daran, daß sie Fleisch seien, ein Hauch, der dahinfährt und nicht wiederkommt.
For he remembered that they were flesh: yea, a winde that passeth and commeth not againe.
40 Wie oft empörten sie sich gegen ihn in der Wüste, betrübten sie ihn in der Einöde!
How oft did they prouoke him in the wildernes? and grieue him in the desert?
41 Immer wieder versuchten sie Gott und kränkten den Heiligen Israels.
Yea, they returned, and tempted God, and limited the Holie one of Israel.
42 Sie gedachten nicht an seine gewaltige Hand, an den Tag, da er sie vom Feinde befreit hatte,
They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he deliuered them from the enemie,
43 da er seine Zeichen in Ägypten hinstellte und seine Wunder im Gefilde von Zoan.
Nor him that set his signes in Egypt, and his wonders in the fielde of Zoan,
44 Denn er verwandelte ihre Ströme in Blut und ihre Bäche, damit sie nicht trinken könnten.
And turned their riuers into blood, and their floods, that they could not drinke.
45 Er sandte Hundsfliegen gegen sie, die fraßen sie, und Frösche, die verderbten sie.
Hee sent a swarme of flies among them, which deuoured them, and frogs, which destroyed them.
46 Er gab ihr Gewächs dem Ungeziefer preis und was sie erarbeitet, der Heuschrecke.
He gaue also their fruites vnto the caterpiller, and their labour vnto the grassehopper.
47 Er erschlug ihre Weinstöcke mit Hagel und ihre Maulbeerfeigenbäume mit Schloßen.
He destroied their vines with haile, and their wilde figge trees with the hailestone.
48 Er gab ihr Vieh dem Hagel preis und ihre Herden den Blitzen.
He gaue their cattell also to the haile, and their flockes to the thunderboltes.
49 Er entsandte wider sie die Glut seines Zorns, Wut und Grimm und Drangsal, eine Schar von Unglücksengeln.
Hee cast vpon them the fiercenesse of his anger, indignation and wrath, and vexation by the sending out of euill Angels.
50 Er ließ seinem Zorne freien Lauf, entzog ihre Seele nicht dem Tod und überlieferte ihr Leben der Pest.
He made a way to his anger: he spared not their soule from death, but gaue their life to the pestilence,
51 Er schlug alle Erstgeburt in Ägypten, die Erstlinge der Manneskraft in den Zelten Hams.
And smote al the firstborne in Egypt, euen the beginning of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham.
52 Und er ließ sein Volk ausziehen wie Schafe und leitete sie in der Wüste wie eine Herde.
But hee made his people to goe out like sheepe, and led them in the wildernes like a flocke.
53 Er führte sie sicher, und sie brauchten sich nicht zu fürchten; ihre Feinde aber bedeckte das Meer.
Yea, he caried them out safely, and they feared not, and the Sea couered their enemies.
54 Er brachte sie in sein heiliges Gebiet, zu dem Berge, den seine Rechte erworben hatte.
And he brought them vnto the borders of his Sanctuarie: euen to this Mountaine, which his right hand purchased.
55 Er vertrieb vor ihnen Völker, verloste ihr Land zum erblichen Besitz und ließ in ihren Zelten die Stämme Israels wohnen.
He cast out the heathe also before them, and caused them to fall to the lot of his inheritance, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tabernacles.
56 Aber sie versuchten Gott, den Höchsten, und empörten sich gegen ihn und hielten seine Gebote nicht.
Yet they tempted, and prouoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies,
57 Sie wandten sich ab und waren treulos wie ihre Väter, wandelten sich, wie ein trügerischer Bogen.
But turned backe and delt falsely like their fathers: they turned like a deceitfull bowe.
58 Sie erzürnten ihn mit ihren Höhen und erregten seinen Eifer durch ihre Bilder.
And they prouoked him to anger with their high places, and mooued him to wrath with their grauen images.
59 Da Gott das vernahm, entrüstete er sich und verwarf Israel völlig.
God heard this and was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel,
60 Er gab die Wohnung zu Silo preis, das Zelt, wo er unter den Menschen wohnte,
So that hee forsooke the habitation of Shilo, euen the Tabernacle where hee dwelt among men,
61 ließ seine Macht in die Gefangenschaft wandern und seine Zier in die Gewalt des Feindes.
And deliuered his power into captiuitie, and his beautie into the enemies hand.
62 Er gab sein Volk dem Schwerte preis und entrüstete sich über sein Besitztum.
And hee gaue vp his people to the sworde, and was angrie with his inheritance.
63 Seine Jünglinge fraß das Feuer, und seine Jungfrauen blieben ohne Hochzeitslied.
The fire deuoured their chosen men, and their maides were not praised.
64 Seine Priester fielen durch das Schwert, und seine Witwen hielten keine Totenklage.
Their Priestes fell by the sworde, and their widowes lamented not.
65 Da erwachte der Herr wie ein Schlafender, wie ein Held, der vom Weine besiegt ward.
But the Lord awaked as one out of sleepe, and as a strong man that after his wine crieth out,
66 Und er schlug seine Feinde zurück: ewige Schmach brachte er über sie.
And smote his enemies in the hinder parts, and put them to a perpetuall shame.
67 Und er verwarf das Zelt Josephs und erwählte nicht den Stamm Ephraim,
Yet he refused the tabernacle of Ioseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
68 sondern erwählte den Stamm Juda, den Berg Zion, den er liebgewonnen.
But chose the tribe of Iudah, and mount Zion which he loued.
69 Und er baute so fest wie die Himmelshöhen sein Heiligtum, wie die Erde, die er für die Ewigkeit gegründet hat.
And he built his Sanctuarie as an high palace, like the earth, which he stablished for euer.
70 Er erwählte seinen Knecht David und nahm ihn von den Schafhürden hinweg.
He chose Dauid also his seruant, and tooke him from the shepefolds.
71 Von den säugenden Schafen holte er ihn weg, daß er sein Volk Jakob weide und Israel, sein Besitztum.
Euen from behinde the ewes with yong brought he him to feede his people in Iaakob, and his inheritance in Israel.
72 Und er weidete sie in Herzenseinfalt und führte sie mit kluger Hand.
So he fed them according to the simplicitie of his heart, and guided them by the discretion of his hands.
