Psalm 71
1 Bei dir, Jahwe, suche ich Zuflucht: Laß mich nimmermehr zu Schanden werden!
A Psalm of David. Of the sons of Jonadab and the former captives. In you, O Lord, I have hoped; do not let me be brought to ruin forever.
2 Errette und befreie mich nach deiner Gerechtigkeit; neige zu mir dein Ohr und hilf mir!
Free me by your justice, and rescue me. Incline your ear to me, and save me.
3 Sei mir ein schützender Fels, eine feste Burg, mir zu helfen; denn du bist mein Fels und meine Burg!
Be a God of protection and a place of strength for me, so that you may accomplish my salvation. For you are my firmament and my refuge.
4 Mein Gott, befreie mich aus der Gewalt des Gottlosen, aus der Faust des Frevlers und Tyrannen.
Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the sinner, and from the hand of the unjust and those who act against the law.
5 Denn du bist meine Hoffnung, Herr Jahwe, meine Zuversicht von meiner Jugend an.
For you, O Lord, are my patience: my hope from my youth, O Lord.
6 Auf dich habe ich mich verlassen von Mutterleibe an; vom Mutterschoße an warst du mein Versorger: auf dich geht immerdar mein Loblied.
In you, I have been confirmed from conception. From my mother’s womb, you are my protector. In you, I will sing forever.
7 Ich bin für viele wie ein Wunder, aber du bist meine starke Zuflucht!
I have become to many as if I were a portent, but you are a strong helper.
8 Mein Mund ist voll von deinem Ruhm, immerdar voll von deinem Preis.
Let my mouth be filled with praise, so that I may sing your glory, your greatness all day long.
9 Verwirf mich nicht zur Zeit des Alters; wenn mir die Kräfte schwinden, verlaß mich nicht!
Do not cast me off in the time of old age. Do not abandon me when my strength will fail.
10 Denn meine Feinde reden über mich und, die auf mein Leben lauern, beratschlagen sich miteinander
For my enemies have spoken against me. And those who watched for my soul have taken counsel as one,
11 und sprechen: “Gott hat ihn verlassen; verfolgt und greift ihn, denn da ist kein Retter!”
saying: “God has abandoned him. Pursue and overtake him. For there is no one to rescue him.”
12 Gott, sei nicht ferne von mir; mein Gott, eile mir zu Hilfe!
O God, do not be far from me. O my God, provide for my assistance.
13 Mögen beschämt, vernichtet werden, die meine Seele befeinden, mit Schmach und Schande bedeckt werden, die mein Unglück wollen.
May they be confounded, and may they fail, who drag down my soul. Let them be covered with confusion and shame, who seek evils for me.
14 Ich aber will immerdar harren und all' deinen Ruhm vermehren.
But I will always have hope. And I will add more to all your praise.
15 Mein Mund soll deine Gerechtigkeit, soll immerfort dein Heil verkünden, denn ich weiß ihrer keine Zahl!
My mouth will announce your justice, your salvation all day long. For I have not known letters.
16 Ich will mit den Großthaten des Herrn Jahwes kommen, will allein deine Gerechtigkeit rühmen.
I will enter into the powers of the Lord. I will be mindful of your justice alone, O Lord.
17 Gott, du hast mich gelehrt von meiner Jugend an, und bis hierher verkündige ich deine Wunder.
You have taught me from my youth, O God. And so I will declare your wonders continuously,
18 Aber auch bis zum Greisenalter und grauen Haar, o Gott, verlaß mich nicht, daß ich deinen Arm dem künftigen Geschlechte verkündige, deine Stärke allen, die noch kommen werden.
even in old age and with grey hairs. Do not abandon me, O God, while I announce your arm to every future generation: your power
19 Denn deine Gerechtigkeit, o Gott, reicht bis zur Himmelshöhe; der du Großes gethan hast, Gott, wer ist dir gleich?
and your justice, O God, even to the highest great things that you have done. O God, who is like you?
20 Der du uns viel Not und Unglück erleben ließest, wirst uns neu beleben und aus den Tiefen der Erde uns wieder emporziehen.
How great is the tribulation that you have revealed to me: very great and evil. And so, turning back, you have brought me to life, and you have led me back again from the abyss of the earth.
21 Du wirst meine Hoheit mehren und mich wiederum trösten.
You have multiplied your magnificence. And so, turning back to me, you have consoled me.
22 So will auch ich mit Harfenspiel, mein Gott, dich, deine Treue, preisen, will auf der Zither dir spielen, du Heiliger Israels!
Therefore, I will confess your truth to you, with the instruments of the Psalter. O God, I will sing psalms to you with stringed instruments, O Holy One of Israel.
23 Meine Lippen sollen jubeln, wenn ich dir spiele, und meine Seele, die du erlöst hast.
My lips will exult, when I sing to you, and also my soul, which you have redeemed.
24 Auch meine Zunge soll immerfort von deiner Gerechtigkeit reden; denn beschämt, zu Schanden wurden, die mein Unglück wollten.
And even my tongue will meditate on your justice all day long, when those who seek evils for me have been confounded and set in awe.
