Psalm 18
1 Dem Musikmeister. Vom Knechte Jahwes, von David, der an Jahwe die Worte dieses Liedes richtete, als ihn Jahwe aus der Gewalt aller seiner Feinde und aus der Hand Sauls errettet hatte. Er sprach: Ich will dich erhöhen, Jahwe, meine Stärke! Jahwe ist mein Fels in meiner Drangsal und mein Erretter.
To the chief Musician. Of the servant of Yahweh, of David, —who spake unto Yahweh the words of this song, —in the day when Yahweh had rescued him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul; and he said: — I will love thee, O Yahweh my strength!
2 Mein Gott ist mein Hort, bei dem ich Zuflucht suche, mein Schild und mein Heilshorn, meine Burg.
Yahweh, was my mountain crag and my stronghold, and my deliverer: My GOD, was my rock, I sought refuge in him, My shield, and my horn of salvation, my high tower.
3 Den Preiswürdigen rufe ich, Jahwe, so werde ich von meinen Feinden befreit.
As one worthy to be praised, called I on Yahweh, —And, from my foes, was I saved.
4 Denn umringt hatten mich Wasserwogen, und tückische Bäche schreckten mich;
The meshes of death encompassed me, The torrents of perdition, made me afraid;
The meshes of hades, had surrounded me, The snares of death, had confronted me, (Sheol h7585)
6 Da mir angst ward, rief ich Jahwe an und zu meinem Gotte schrie ich. Er hörte aus seinem Palaste meine Stimme, und mein Geschrei kam vor ihn, drang zu seinen Ohren.
In my distress, called I on Yahweh, And, unto my God, made outcry for help, He heard, out of his temple, my voice, And my outcry for help came before him—entered into his ears!
7 Er blickte her - da wankte die Erde, und der Berge Grundfesten erbebten und schwankten hin und her, weil er ergrimmt war.
Then did the earth shake and quake, Even, the foundations of the mountains, were deeply moved, Yea they did shake, because he was angry.
8 Rauch stieg auf in seiner Nase, und Feuer fraß aus seinem Munde; glühende Kohlen brannten von ihm aus.
There went up smoke in his nostrils, and, a fire out of his mouth, devoured, Live coals, were kindled from it:
9 Er neigte den Himmel und ließ sich herab, während Dunkel unter seinen Füßen war.
Then he stretched out the heaven, and came down, —and, thick gloom, was under his feet;
10 Er bestieg einen Kerub und flog dahin und schwebte einher auf den Fittigen des Windes.
Then he rode on a cherub, and flew, and darted on the wings of the wind;
11 Er machte Finsternis zu seiner Hülle, ringsum zu seiner Hütte Wasserdunkel, dichte Wolken.
Made darkness his hiding-place, Round about him—his pavilion, Darkness of waters, clouds of vapours.
12 Vom Glanze vor ihm brachen durch seine Wolken, Hagel und Feuerkohlen.
Out of the brightness before him, his clouds rolled along, hail, and live coals of fire.
13 Da donnerte im Himmel Jahwe und der Höchste ließ seine Stimme erschallen.
Then did Yahweh thunder in the heavens, and the Highest uttered his voice, —hail, and live coals of fire.
14 Er schleuderte seine Pfeile und zerstreute sie, blitzte Blitze und scheuchte sie.
And he sent forth his arrows and scattered them, yea, lightnings, he shot out, and confused them.
15 Da wurden sichtbar die Betten des Meers, und bloßgelegt die Grundfesten des Erdkreises vor deinem Schelten, Jahwe, vor dem Schnauben des Odems deiner Nase!
Then appeared the channels of waters, were uncovered the foundations of the world, —At thy rebuke O Yahweh, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
16 Er langte herab aus der Höhe, ergriff mich, zog mich aus großen Wassern.
He sent from on high, he took me, —he drew me out of many waters.
17 Er entriß mich meinem starken Feinde und meinen Hassern, weil sie mir zu mächtig waren.
He rescued me from my foe, in his might, and from them who hated me, because they were too strong for me:
18 Sie überfielen mich an meinem Unglückstag, aber Jahwe ward meine Stütze.
They confronted me, in the day of my necessity, Then became Yahweh my stay:
19 Er führte mich heraus in freien Raum, riß mich heraus, weil er Wohlgefallen an mir hatte.
And brought me out, into a large place, he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
20 Jahwe erweist mir nach meiner Gerechtigkeit, nach der Reinheit meiner Hände vergilt er mir.
Yahweh rewarded me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands, he repaid me;
21 Denn ich hielt inne die Wege Jahwes und frevelte nicht gegen meinen Gott.
For I had kept the ways of Yahweh, and not broken away from my God;
22 Denn alle seine Rechte sind mir gegenwärtig, und seine Satzungen schob ich nicht beiseite.
For, all his regulations, were before me, and, his statutes, did I not put from me:
23 Ich war redlich gegen ihn und hütete mich vor meiner Verschuldung.
So became I blameless with him, and kept myself from mine iniquity.
24 Da vergalt mir Jahwe nach meiner Gerechtigkeit, nach der Reinheit meiner Hände vor seinen Augen.
Yahweh therefore repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the pureness of my hands, before his eyes.
25 Gegen den Liebreichen zeigst du dich liebreich, gegen den Redlichen zeigst du dich redlich,
With the loving, thou didst show thyself loving, —With the blameless man, thou didst show thyself blameless;
26 gegen den Lauteren zeigst du dich lauter und gegen den Verkehrten zeigst du dich verdreht.
With the pure, thou didst show thyself pure, But, with the perverse, thou didst show thyself ready to contend.
27 Denn du schaffst Hilfe gedrücktem Volk, aber hoffärtige Augen erniedrigst du.
For, as for thee, an oppressed people, thou didst save, but, looks that were lofty, layedst thou low;
28 Denn du lässest meine Leuchte scheinen; Jahwe, mein Gott, erhellt meine Finsternis.
For, thou, didst light up my lamp, Yahweh my God, enlightened my darkness;
29 Denn durch dich zerbreche ich Mauern und mit meinem Gotte springe ich über Wälle.
For, by thee, I ran through a troop, and, by my God, I leapt over a wall.
30 Gottes Weg ist vollkommen! Das Wort Jahwes ist durchläuert: ein Schild ist er allen, die bei ihm Zuflucht suchen.
As for GOD, blameless is his way, The speech of Yahweh hath been proved, A shield, he is to all who seek refuge in him.
31 Denn wer ist Gott außer Jahwe, und wer ein Hort außer unserem Gott?
For who is a GOD, save Yahweh? And who is a Rock, save our God?
32 Dem Gott, der mich mit Stärke gürtet und meinen Weg eben macht;
The GOD who girded me with strength, and set forth, as blameless, my way:
33 der meine Füße den Hindinnen gleich macht und mich auf Höhen stellt,
Planting my feet like hinds’ [feet], yea, on my high places, he caused me to stand:
34 der meine Hände streiten lehrt, daß meine Arme den ehernen Bogen spannen.
Teaching my hands to war, —so that a bow of bronze was bent by mine arms.
35 Und du gabst mir den Schild deines Heils und deine Rechte stützte mich, und deine Herablassung machte mich groß.
Thus didst thou grant me, as a shield, thy salvation, —and, thy right hand, sustained me, and, thy condescension, made me great.
36 Du machtest weiten Raum für meinen Schritt, und meine Knöchel wankten nicht.
Thou didst widen my stepping-places under me, so that, mine ankles, faltered not.
37 Ich verfolgte meine Feinde und holte sie ein und kehrte nicht um, bis ich sie vernichtet.
I pursued my foes, and overtook them, and returned not, till they were consumed:
38 Ich zerschmetterte sie, daß sie nicht mehr aufstehen konnten, dahinsanken unter meine Füße.
I crushed them, and they were unable to rise, They fell under my feet.
39 Du gürtetest mich mit Stärke zum Streit, beugtest meine Widersacher unter mich.
Thus didst thou gird me with strength, for the battle, Thou subduedst mine assailants under me.
40 Du ließest meine Feinde vor mir fliehen, und meine Hasser - die rottete ich aus!
As for my foes, thou didst give me their neck, and, as for them who hated me, I destroyed them.
41 Sie schrieen - aber da war kein Helfer, zu Jahwe - aber er antwortete ihnen nicht.
They cried out, but there was none to save, unto Yahweh, but he answered them not.
42 Und ich zermalmte sie wie Staub vor dem Winde, wie Gassenkot leerte ich sie aus.
Then did I beat them in pieces, like dust on the face of the wind. Like the mire in the lanes, did I scatter them.
43 Du errettetest mich aus Völkerfehden, setztest mich zum Haupte der Heiden: Leute, die ich nicht kannte, wurden mir unterthan.
Thus didst thou rescue me from the contentions of a people, —didst appoint me to be the head of nations, A people I had not known, served me:
44 Aufs Hörensagen gehorchen sie mir, die Söhne der Fremde schmeicheln mir.
At the hearing of the ear, they submitted to me, the sons of the foreigner, came cringing unto me:
45 Die Söhne der Fremde schmachten dahin und zittern hervor aus ihren Schlössern.
The sons of the foreigner, lost heart, and came quaking out of their fortresses.
46 Es lebt Jahwe und gepriesen ist mein Hort, und hoch erhaben der Gott meines Heils;
Yahweh liveth and, blessed, be my Rock, yea, exalted, be the God of my salvation:
47 der Gott, der mir Rache gab und die Völker unter mich trieb,
The GOD, who hath avenged me, —and subjugated peoples under me:
48 der mich herausriß aus meinen Feinden, und über meine Widersacher erhöhtest du mich; vor dem gewaltthätigen Mann errettetest du mich.
Who hath delivered me from my foes, —Yea, from mine assailants, hast thou set me on high, From the man of violence, hast thou rescued me.
49 Darum will ich dich preisen, Jahwe, unter den Heiden und deinem Namen singen,
For this cause, will I praise thee among the nations, O Yahweh, and, to thy Name, will I sweep the strings: —
50 der seinem Könige großes Heil verleiht und seinem Gesalbten Huld erweist, David und seinem Samen bis in Ewigkeit!
Who hath made great the victories of his King, —and shown lovingkindness to his Anointed One, To David and to his Seed, Unto times age-abiding.
