Psalm 148

1 Rühmet Jah! Rühmet Jahwe vom Himmel her, rühmet ihn in den Himmelshöhen!

Praise Yahweh! Praise him, from up in heaven; praise him from way up in the sky!

2 Rühmet ihn, alle seine Engel, rühmet ihn, all' sein Heer!

All you angels who belong to him, praise him! All you who are in the armies of heaven, praise him!

3 Rühmet ihn, Sonne und Mond, rühmet ihn, alle leuchtenden Sterne!

Sun and moon, [you also] praise him! You shining stars, you praise him!

4 Rühmet ihn, ihr äußersten Himmel und ihr Gewässer über dem Himmel!

You highest heavens, praise him! And you waters that are high above the sky, praise him!

5 Sie sollen den Namen Jahwes rühmen; denn er gebot, da wurden sie geschaffen.

I want [all of] these to praise Yahweh [MTY] because by commanding [them to exist], he created them.

6 Er stellte sie hin für immer und ewig; er gab ein Gesetz, das überschreiten sie nicht.

He determined the places where they should be [in the sky], and he commanded that they should be there forever. They cannot disobey that command!

7 Rühmet Jahwe von der Erde her, ihr Seeungeheuer und all' ihr Fluten.

And everything on the earth, praise Yahweh! You [huge] sea monsters and [everything else that is] deep [in the ocean],

8 Feuer und Hagel, Schnee und Rauch, du Sturmwind, der sein Gebot ausrichtet,

and fire and hail, and snow and frost, and strong winds that obey what he commands, [I tell] all of you to praise Yahweh!

9 ihr Berge und all' ihr Hügel, ihr Fruchtbäume und all' ihr Cedern;

Hills and mountains, fruit trees and cedar [trees],

10 ihr wilden Tiere und alles Vieh, du Gewürm und ihr beschwingten Vögel;

all the wild animals and all [you] cattle, and the (reptiles/creatures that scurry across the ground), and [all] the birds, [I tell all of them to praise Yahweh]!

11 ihr Erdenkönige und all' ihr Völker, ihr Fürsten und all' ihr Erdenrichter;

You kings on this earth and all the people [that you rule], you princes and all [other] rulers,

12 ihr Jünglinge und ihr Jungfrauen, ihr Greise samt den Knaben:

you young men and young women, you old people and children, [everyone, praise Yahweh!]

13 Sie sollen den Namen Jahwes rühmen, denn sein Name allein ist erhaben; sein Glanz überragt Erde und Himmel.

I want them [all] to praise Yahweh [MTY] because he is greater than anyone else. His glory is greater than [anything on] the earth or [in] heaven.

14 Er verlieh seinem Volk ein hocherhobenes Horn; darob erschalle Lobpreis bei allen seinen Frommen, den Söhnen Israels, dem Volke, das ihm nahe ist! Rühmet Jah!

He caused us, his people, to be strong in order that we, his people, we Israeli people (who are very precious to him/whom he loves very much), would praise him. So praise Yahweh!
