Psalm 10

1 Warum stehst du fern, Jahwe, hältst dich verborgen in Zeiten der Drangsal?

Why standest Thou afar off, O LORD? Why hidest Thou Thyself in times of trouble?

2 Ob des Übermuts der Gottlosen muß der Elende sich ängstigen; möchten sie ergriffen werden in den Ränken, die sie ausgedacht haben!

Through the pride of the wicked the poor is hotly pursued, they are taken in the devices that they have imagined.

3 Denn der Gottlose lobsingt und thut dabei, was ihn gelüstet, und der Habgierige preist und lästert zugleich Jahwe.

For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and the covetous vaunteth himself, though he contemn the LORD.

4 Der Gottlose wähnt in seinem Hochmut: “Er ahndet nicht!” “Es giebt keinen Gott” - dahin gehen alle seine Gedanken.

The wicked, in the pride of his countenance, saith: 'He will not require'; all his thoughts are: 'There is no God.'

5 Was er unternimmt, hat jederzeit Bestand; deine Gerichte bleiben hoch droben von ihm fern: alle seine Feinde - er bläst sie verächtlich an.

His ways prosper at all times; Thy judgments are far above out of his sight; as for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them.

6 Er denkt in seinem Sinn: Ich werde nimmermehr wanken, in alle Zukunft nicht in Unglück geraten.

He saith in his heart: 'I shall not be moved, I who to all generations shall not be in adversity.'

7 Sein Mund ist voll Fluchens, Trug und Gewaltthat; unter seiner Zunge birgt sich Unheil und Verderben.

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.

8 Er liegt im Hinterhalte der Gehöfte, mordet insgeheim Unschuldige; seine Augen spähen nach dem Unglücklichen.

He sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages; in secret places doth he slay the innocent; his eyes are on the watch for the helpless.

9 Er lauert im Verborgenen wie ein Löwe in seinem Dickicht. Er lauert, den Elenden zu erhaschen; er erhascht den Elenden, indem er ihn fortzieht mit seinem Netz.

He lieth in wait in a secret place as a lion in his lair, he lieth in wait to catch the poor; he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him up in his net.

10 Er wird niedergeschlagen, sinkt dahin; durch seine Stärke fallen die Unglücklichen.

He croucheth, he boweth down, and the helpless fall into his mighty claws.

11 Er denkt in seinem Sinne: Gott vergißt es; er hat sein Angesicht verborgen, er sieht es nimmermehr!

He hath said in his heart: 'God hath forgotten; He hideth His face; He will never see.'

12 Auf, Jahwe! Gott, erhebe deine Hand! Vergiß die Elenden nicht!

Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up Thy hand; forget not the humble.

13 Warum lästert der Gottlose Gott, denkt in seinem Sinne: Du ahndest nicht?

Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God, and say in his heart: 'Thou wilt not require'?

14 Du hast es wohl gesehen! Denn du achtest auf Leid und Kummer, um sie in deine Hand zu nehmen. Dir überläßt es der Unglückliche; dem Verwaisten wurdest du ein Helfer!

Thou hast seen; for Thou beholdest trouble and vexation, to requite them with Thy hand; unto Thee the helpless committeth himself; Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.

15 Zerbrich den Arm des Gottlosen! Und der Böse - ahnde seinen Frevel! Solltest du ihn nicht finden?

Break Thou the arm of the wicked; and as for the evil man, search out his wickedness, till none be found.

16 Jahwe ist König auf immer und ewig; verschwunden sind die Heiden aus seinem Lande.

The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations are perished out of His land.

17 Das Verlangen der Elenden hast du, Jahwe, gehört; du stärkst ihren Mut, du neigst dein Ohr,

LORD, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble: Thou wilt direct their heart, Thou wilt cause Thine ear to attend;

18 daß du den Verwaisten und Unterdrückten Recht schaffest. Nicht sollen fortan Menschen von der Erde trotzen!

To right the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may be terrible no more.
