Nahum 3
1 Ha, Stadt der Blutschuld, ganz angefüllt mit Lug und Gewaltthat, für die des Raubens kein Ende ist.
Woe to the bloody city! it [is] all full of lies [and] robberies; the prey departeth not;
2 Horch, Peitschenknall! Horch, Rädergerassel, jagende rosse und rollende Wagen,
The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the prancing horses, and of the bounding chariots.
3 anstürmende reiter, funkelnde Schwerter und blitzende Lanzen! Zahllos sind die Erschlagenen und massenhaft die Leichen; kein Ende ist der Leichname, so saß sie über ihre Leichname hinstürzen
The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword, and the glittering spear: and [there is] a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcasses; and [there is] no end of [their] corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:
4 ob der zahlosen Herereien der Hure, der holdseligen, zauberkundigen, die ganze Völker mit ihrer Hurerei berückte und Nationen mit ihren Zauberkünsten.
Because of the multitude of the lewd deeds of the well-favored harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her lewd deeds, and families through her witchcrafts.
5 Fürwahr, ich will an dich - ist der Spruch Jahwes der Heerscharen - und will dir vorne die Schleppe aufdecken und den Völkern deine Blöße zeigen und Königreichen deine Schande.
Behold, I [am] against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will remove thy skirts upon thy face, and I will show the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.
6 Ich will Unrat auf dich schleudern und dich schänden und ein Schauspiel aus dir machen,
And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazing-stock.
7 daß alle, die dich erblicken, vor dir fliehen und sprechen sollen: Verheert ist Ninive! Wer könnte Mitleid mit ihr haben? Wo soll ich Tröster für dich auftreiben?
And it shall come to pass, [that] all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her; whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
8 Bist du etwa besser, als No Amon, die an den Nilarmen trohnte, rings von Wassern umgeben, der der Strom als Bollwerk, der Strom als Mauer diente?
Art thou better than populous No, that was situated among the rivers, [that had] the waters around it, whose rampart [was] the sea, [and] her wall [was] from the sea?
9 Leute von Kusch und Ägypter ohne Zahl waren ihre Stärke; Leute von Put und Libyer bildeten deine Helferschaft.
Cush and Egypt [were] her strength, and [it was] infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.
10 Aber auch sie wanderte in die Verbannung, in die Gefangenschaft; auch ihre Kindlein wurden an allen Straßenecken zerschmettert. Über ihre Angesehenen warf man das Los, und alle ihre Großen wurden in Fesseln gelegt.
Yet [was] she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the head of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honorable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
11 Auch du sollst trunken werden, sollst umnachtet sein; auch du sollst Zuflucht vor dem Feinde suchen!
Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.
12 Alle deine Bollwerke sind wie Feigenbäume mit Frühfeigen: Wenn sie geschüttelt werden, fallen sie dem, der essen will, in den Mund!
All thy strong holds [shall be like] fig-trees with the first ripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Fürwahr, deine Krieger sind Weiber in dir - weit tun sich die Thore deines Landes auf, Feuer verzehrt deine Riegel!
Behold, thy people in the midst of thee [are] women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open to thy enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.
14 Schöpfe dir Wasser für die Zeit der Belagerung! Verstärke deine Bollwerke! Tritt in den Thon und stampfe Lehm! Greife zur Ziegelform!
Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the mortar, make strong the brick-kiln.
15 Dort wird dich Feuer verzehren, das Schwert dich vertilgen; gleich einem Käferschwarm wird es dich aufzehren, magst du dich auch mehren, wie die Käfer, dich mehren wie die Heuschrecken.
There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the canker-worm: make thyself many as the canker-worm, make thyself many as the locusts.
16 Deine Händler sind zahlreicher, als die Sterne am Himmel; doch die Käfer häuten sich und fliegen davon, und niemand weiß, wohin.
Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the canker-worm spoileth, and flieth away.
17 Deine Fürsten gleichen den Heuschrecken, deine Befehlshaber einem Schwarm von Heuschrecken, die sich in kalter Zeit an den Mauern lagern; wenn die Sonne aufgeht, fliegen sie davon, und niemand weiß, wohin.
Thy crowned [are] as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which settle in the hedges in the cold day, [but] when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they [are].
18 Deine Hirten schlummern, o König von Assyrien, deine Edlen liegen im Schlafe; deine Leute sind auf den Bergen zerstreut, ohne daß sie jemand sammelt!
Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell [in the dust]: thy people are scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth [them].
19 Keine Linderung giebt's für deinen Schaden, unheilbar ist deine Verwundung! Alle, die die Kunde von dir vernehmen, klatschen deinetwegen in die Hände; denn über wen wäre nicht beständig deine Bosheit ergangen!
[There is] no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the fame of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
