Matthaeus 16
1 Und Pharisäer und Sadducäer kamen zu ihm und versuchten ihn mit dem Ansinnen, sie ein Zeichen vom Himmel sehen zu lassen.
Here the Pharisees and Sadducees came to Him; and, to make trial of Him, they asked Him to show them a sign in the sky.
2 Er aber antwortete ihnen: Am Abend sagt ihr: es giebt schönes Wetter, denn der Himmel ist rot,
He replied, "In the evening you say, 'It will be fine weather, for the sky is red;'
3 und am Morgen: heute giebt es Unwetter, denn der Himmel ist rot und trübe. Das Aussehen des Himmels könnt ihr beurteilen, aber die Zeichen der Zeiten nicht.
and in the morning, 'It will be rough weather to-day, for the sky is red and murky.' You learn how to distinguish the aspect of the heavens, but the signs of the times you cannot.
4 Ein böses und ehebrecherisches Geschlecht begehrt ein Zeichen, und es soll ihm kein Zeichen gegeben werden, als das Zeichen Jonas'. Und er verließ sie und gieng davon.
A wicked and faithless generation are eager for a sign; but none shall be given to them except the sign of Jonah." and He left them and went away.
5 Und als die Jünger in das Land drüben giengen, vergaßen sie Brot mitzunehmen.
When the disciples arrived at the other side of the Lake, they found that they had forgotten to bring any bread;
6 Jesus aber sagte zu ihnen: sehet zu und nehmet euch in Acht vor dem Sauerteig der Pharisäer und Sadducäer!
and when Jesus said to them, "See to it: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees,"
7 Sie aber dachten bei sich: das geht darauf, daß wir keine Brote genommen.
they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have not brought any bread."
8 Jesus aber erkannte es und sagte: was denkt ihr daran, ihr Kleingläubige, daß ihr keine Brote mitgenommen habet?
Jesus perceived this and said, "Why are you reasoning among yourselves, you men of little faith, because you have no bread?
9 Merket ihr noch nichts, und denket auch nicht an die fünf Brote für die Fünftausend, und wie viel Körbe ihr noch fortgenommen?
Do you not yet understand? nor even remember the 5,000 and the five loaves, and how many basketfuls you carried away,
10 Noch an die sieben Brote für die Viertausend, und wie viel Handkörbe ihr noch fortgenommen?
nor the 4,000 and the seven loaves, and how many hampers you carried away?
11 Wie möget ihr nicht merken, daß ich euch nicht von Broten gesagt habe: nehmet euch in Acht vor dem Sauerteig der Pharisäer und Sadducäer?
How is it you do not understand that it was not about bread that I spoke to you? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
12 Hierauf verstanden sie, daß er nicht gemeint hatte, sich in Acht nehmen vor dem Sauerteig, sondern vor der Lehre der Pharisäer und Sadducäer.
Then they perceived that He had not warned them against bread-yeast, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
13 Als aber Jesus in die Gegend von Cäsarea Philippi kam, fragte er seine Jünger, was sagen die Leute vom Sohn des Menschen, wer er sei?
When He arrived in the neighbourhood of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus questioned His disciples. "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" He asked.
14 Sie aber sagten: die einen: Johannes der Täufer, andere aber: Elias, wieder welche: Jeremias oder einer von den Propheten.
"Some say John the Baptist," they replied; "others Elijah; others Jeremiah or one of the Prophets."
15 Sagt er zu ihnen: ihr aber, was sagt ihr, wer ich sei?
"But you, who do you say that I am?" He asked again.
16 Es antwortete aber Simon Petrus und sprach: du bist der Christus, der Sohn des lebendigen Gottes.
"You," replied Simon Peter, "are the Christ, the Son of the ever-living God."
17 Jesus aber antwortete ihm: selig bist du, Simon Barjona; denn Fleisch und Blut hat es dir nicht geoffenbart, sondern mein Vater in den Himmeln.
"Blessed are you, Simon Bar-jonah," said Jesus; "for mere human nature has not revealed this to you, but my Father in Heaven.
18 So sage auch ich dir: du bist Petrus, und auf diesen Felsen will ich meine Gemeinde bauen, und die Pforten der Hölle sollen sie nicht überwältigen. (Hadēs g86)
And I declare to you that you are Peter, and that upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the might of Hades shall not triumph over it. (Hadēs g86)
19 Ich will dir die Schlüssel des Reichs der Himmel geben, und was du bindest auf der Erde, soll in den Himmeln gebunden sein, und was du lösest auf der Erde, soll in den Himmeln gelöst sein.
I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of the Heavens; and whatever you bind on earth shall remain bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall remain loosed in Heaven."
20 Hierauf befahl er den Jüngern, sie sollten niemand sagen, das er der Christus sei.
Then He urged His disciples to tell no one that He was the Christ.
21 Von da an begann Jesus seinen Jüngern darzulegen, daß er müsse nach Jerusalem ziehen und viel leiden von den Aeltesten und Hohenpriestern und Schriftgelehrten, und getötet werden und am dritten Tage auferweckt werden.
From this time Jesus began to explain to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer much cruelty from the Elders and the High Priests and the Scribes, and be put to death, and on the third day be raised to life again.
22 Und Petrus zog ihn an sich, und begann ihn zu schelten und sagte: das verhüte Gott, Herr, das darf dir nimmermehr widerfahren.
Then Peter took Him aside and began taking Him to task. "Master," he said, "God forbid; this will not be your lot."
23 Er aber wandte sich und sagte zu Petrus: weiche hinter mich, Satan; du bist mir ein Aergernis, du denkst nicht was Gott ansteht, sondern was den Menschen.
But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Adversary; you are a hindrance to me, because your thoughts are not God's thoughts, but men's."
24 Hierauf sagte Jesus zu seinen Jüngern: Will jemand mir nachgehen, der verleugne sich selbst, und nehme sein Kreuz auf, und folge mir.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If any one desires to follow me, let him renounce self and take up his cross, and so be my follower.
25 Denn wer sein Leben retten will, der wird es verlieren; wer aber sein Leben verliert um meinetwillen, der wird es gewinnen.
For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake shall find it.
26 Denn was hälfe es dem Menschen, wenn er die ganze Welt gewänne, er käme aber um sein Leben? oder was soll der Mensch zum Tausch geben für sein Leben?
Why, what benefit will it be to a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give to buy back his life?
27 Denn es ist an dem, daß der Sohn des Menschen kommt in der Herrlichkeit seines Vaters mit seinen Engeln, und hierauf wird er einem jeden vergelten nach seinem Thun.
For the Son of Man is soon to come in the glory of the Father with His angels, and then will He requite every man according to his actions.
28 Wahrlich, ich sage euch, es sind einige unter denen, die hier stehen, welche den Tod nicht kosten werden, bis sie den Sohn des Menschen kommen sehen in seinem Reich.
I solemnly tell you that some of those who are standing here will certainly not taste death till they have seen the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom."
