Lukas 10
1 Nach diesem aber stellte der Herr auch siebenzig andere auf, und sandte sie zu je zwei vor sich her, in alle Städte und Orte, wohin er selbst zu gehen vorhatte.
After this, the Master appointed seventy-two other disciples, and sent them on as his Messengers, two and two, in advance, to every town and place that he was himself intending to visit.
2 Er sagte aber zu ihnen: die Ernte ist reich, der Arbeiter aber sind wenige. So bittet denn den Herrn der Ernte, daß er Arbeiter ausschicke zu seiner Ernte.
“The harvest,” he said, “is abundant, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray to the Owner of the harvest to send labourers to gather in his harvest.
3 Gehet hin; siehe, ich sende euch wie Lämmer mitten unter Wölfe.
Now, go. Remember, I am sending you out as my Messengers like lambs among wolves.
4 Traget keinen Beutel, keine Tasche, keine Schuhe; grüßet niemand unterwegs.
Do not take a purse with you, or a bag, or sandals; and do not stop to greet any one on your journey.
5 Wo ihr aber in ein Haus eintretet, saget zuerst: Friede diesem Hause;
Whatever house you go to stay at, begin by praying for a blessing on it.
6 und wenn daselbst ein Kind des Friedens ist, so wird euer Friede auf ihm ruhen; wo aber nicht, so wird er sich zu euch zurückwenden.
Then, if any one there is deserving of a blessing, your blessing will rest upon him; but if not, it will come back upon yourselves.
7 In demselben Hause aber bleibet und nehmet Essen und Trinken von ihnen; denn der Arbeiter verdient seinen Lohn. Gehet nicht von einem Hause zum andern über.
Remain at that same house, and eat and drink whatever they offer you; for the worker is worth his wages. Do not keep changing from one house to another.
8 Und wo ihr in eine Stadt eintretet, und man euch aufnimmt, da esset, was man euch vorsetzt,
Whatever town you visit, if the people welcome you, eat what is set before you;
9 und heilet die Kranken daselbst, und saget ihnen: Das Reich Gottes ist zu euch gekommen.
cure the sick there, and tell people ‘The Kingdom of God is close at hand.
10 Wo ihr aber in eine Stadt eintretet und man nimmt euch nicht auf, da gehet hinaus auf ihre Gassen und saget:
But, whatever town you go to visit, if the people do not welcome you, go out into its streets and say
11 auch den Staub, der uns von eurer Stadt an den Füßen hängt, wischen wir für euch ab; merket aber, daß das Reich Gottes herbeigekommen ist.
‘We wipe off the very dust of your town which has clung to Our feet; still, be assured that the Kingdom of God is close at Hand.’
12 Ich sage euch aber, es wird Sodom an jenem Tage erträglicher gehen als dieser Stadt.
I tell you that the doom of Sodom will be more bearable on ‘That Day’ than the doom of that town.
13 Wehe dir Chorazin, wehe dir Bethsaida; denn wenn in Tyrus und Sidon die Wunder geschehen wären, die bei euch geschehen sind, sie hätten dereinst in Sack und Asche sitzend Buße gethan.
Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For, if the Miracles which have been done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have sat in sackcloth and ashes and repented long ago.
14 Es wird aber auch Tyrus und Sidon erträglicher gehen im Gericht als euch.
Yet the doom of Tyre and Sidon will be more bearable at the Judgment than yours.
15 Und du Kapernaum, wardst du nicht zum Himmel erhöht? Bis zur Hölle sollst du hinabgestoßen werden. (Hadēs g86)
And you, Capernaum! Will you ‘exalt yourself to heaven’? ‘You shall go down to the Place of Death.’ (Hadēs g86)
16 Wer euch hört, der hört mich; und wer euch verwirft, der verwirft mich; wer aber mich verwirft, der verwirft den, der mich gesandt hat.
He who listens to you is listening to me, and he who rejects you is rejecting me; while he who rejects me is rejecting him who sent me as his Messenger.”
17 Es kehrten aber die Siebenzig zurück in Freude und sagten: Herr, selbst die Dämonen sind uns unterthan in deinem Namen.
When the seventy-two returned, they exclaimed joyfully: “Master, even the demons submit to us when we use your name.”
18 Er aber sagte zu ihnen: ich sah den Satan wie einen Blitz vom Himmel fallen.
And Jesus replied: “I have had visions of Satan, fallen, like lightning from the heavens.
19 Siehe, ich habe euch Vollmacht gegeben, zu wandeln über Schlangen und Skorpionen, und auf aller Gewalt des Feindes, und nimmermehr soll euch etwas Schaden thun.
Remember, I have given you the power to ‘trample upon serpents and scorpions,’ and to meet all the strength of the Enemy. Nothing shall ever harm you in any way.
20 Doch nicht darüber freuet euch, daß euch die Geister unterthan sind; freuet euch aber, daß eure Namen in den Himmel eingeschrieben sind.
Yet do not rejoice in the fact that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names have been enrolled in Heaven.”
21 Zu eben der Stunde frohlockte er durch den heiligen Geist und sprach: ich danke dir, Vater, Herr des Himmels und der Erde, daß du dieses verborgen hast vor Weisen und Verständigen, und hast es Unmündigen geoffenbart. Ja, Vater, denn so ist es wohlgefällig vor dir gewesen.
At that same time, moved to exultation by the Holy Spirit, Jesus said: “I thank thee, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, that, though thou hast hidden these things from the wise and learned, thou hast revealed them to the childlike! Yes, Father, I thank thee that this has seemed good to thee.
22 Und er wandte sich zu den Jüngern und sagte: Alles ward mir übergeben von meinem Vater, und niemand erkennet wer der Sohn ist, außer der Vater, und wer der Vater ist, außer der Sohn, und wem es der Sohn will offenbaren.
Everything has been committed to me by my Father; nor does any one know who the Son is, except the Father, or who the Father is, except the Son and those to whom the Son may choose to reveal him.”
23 Und er wandte sich zu den Jüngern besonders und sagte: selig die Augen, die da sehen was ihr sehet.
Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said to them alone: “Blessed are the eyes that see what you are seeing;
24 Denn ich sage euch: viele Propheten und Könige begehrten zu sehen, was ihr sehet, und haben es nicht gesehen, und zu hören, was ihr höret, und haben es nicht gehört.
for, I tell you, many Prophets and Kings wished for the sight of the things which you are seeing, yet never heard them.”
25 Und siehe, ein Gesetzesmann stand auf ihn zu versuchen, und sagte: Meister, was muß ich thun, ewiges Leben zu ererben? (aiōnios g166)
Just then a Student of the Law came forward to test Jesus further. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do if I am to ‘gain Immortal Life’?” (aiōnios g166)
26 Er aber sagte zu ihm: was steht im Gesetze geschrieben? wie liest du?
“What is said in the Law?” answered Jesus. “What do you read there?”
27 Er aber antwortete: du sollst lieben den Herrn deinen Gott aus deinem ganzen Herzen und mit deiner ganzen Seele und deiner ganzen Kraft und deinem ganzen Denken, und deinen Nächsten wie dich selbst.
His reply was — “‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thou dost thyself.’”
28 Er sagte aber zu ihm: du hast richtig geantwortet; thue das, so wirst du leben.
“You have answered right,” said Jesus; “do that, and you shall live.”
29 Er aber wollte sich selbst rechtfertigen und sagte zu Jesus: Wer ist denn mein Nächster?
But the man, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus: “And who is my neighbour?”
30 Jesus erwiderte: ein Mann gieng hinab von Jerusalem nach Jericho, und fiel unter Räuber, die zogen ihn aus und schlugen ihn, ließen ihn halbtot liegen und giengen davon.
To which Jesus replied: “A man was once going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when he fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him of everything, and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead.
31 Zufällig aber kam ein Priester des Weges herab, der sah ihn und gieng vorüber.
As it chanced, a priest was going down by that road. He saw the man, but passed by on the opposite side.
32 Ebenso aber auch ein Levite, der an den Ort kam, sah es und gieng vorüber.
A Levite, too, did the same; he came up to the spot, but, when he saw the man, passed by on the opposite side.
33 Ein Samariter aber, der seines Weges zog, kam in seine Nähe, sah ihn und hatte Mitleiden,
But a Samaritan, traveling that way, came upon the man, and, when he saw him, he was moved with compassion.
34 trat hinzu, verband seine Wunden, goß Oel und Wein darauf, setzte ihn auf sein eigenes Tier, brachte ihn in eine Herberge und sorgte für ihn.
He went to him and bound up his wounds, dressing them with oil and wine, and then put him on his own mule, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 Und am folgenden Tag legte er zwei Denare hin, gab sie dem Wirt und sagte: sorge für ihn, und was du weiter aufwendest, will ich dir auf meinem Rückweg ersetzen.
The next day he took out four shillings and gave them to the inn-keeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he said, ‘and whatever more you may spend I will myself repay you on my way back.’
36 Wer von diesen drei dünket dir der Nächste gewesen zu sein dem, der unter die Räuber fiel?
Now which, do you think, of these three men,” asked Jesus, “proved himself a neighbour to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?”
37 Er aber sagte: der die Barmherzigkeit an ihm that. Jesus aber sagte zu ihm: gehe hin und thue desgleichen.
“The one that took pity on him,” was the answer; on which Jesus said: “Go and do the same yourself.”
38 Es geschah aber da sie wanderten, trat er ein in einen Flecken: eine Frau aber mit Namen Martha nahm ihn in ihrem Hause auf.
As they continued their journey, Jesus came to a village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him to her house.
39 Und sie hatte eine Schwester mit Namen Mariam, die setzte sich zu den Füßen des Herrn und hörte sein Wort.
She had a sister called Mary, who seated herself at the Master’s feet, and listened to his teaching;
40 Martha aber machte sich zu schaffen mit vieler Aufwartung; sie trat aber hinzu und sagte: Herr, kümmert es dich nicht, daß meine Schwester mich allein aufwarten läßt? Sage ihr doch, daß sie mit mir angreife.
but Martha was distracted by the many preparations that she was making. So she went up to Jesus and said: “Master, do you approve of my sister’s leaving me to make preparations alone? Tell her to help me.”
41 Der Herr aber antwortete ihr: Martha, Martha, du sorgst und beunruhigst dich um Vieles;
“Martha, Martha,” replied the Master, “you are anxious and trouble yourself about many things;
42 es braucht nur wenig oder eines; Mariam hat das gute Teil erwählt, das soll nicht von ihr genommen werden.
but only a few are necessary, or rather one. Mary has chosen the good part, and it shall not be taken away from her.”
