Richter 19
1 Es begab sich aber zu jener Zeit - es gab nämlich noch keinen König in Israel -, da hielt sich ein levitischer Mann im Innern des Gebirges Ephraim als Fremdling auf; der nahm sich ein Mädchen aus Bethlehem in Juda zum Kebsweibe.
And it cometh to pass, in those days, when there is no king in Israel, that there is a man a Levite, a sojourner in the sides of the hill-country of Ephraim, and he taketh to him a wife, a concubine, out of Beth-Lehem-Judah;
2 Aber dieses sein Kebsweib wurde zornig auf ihn und entlief ihm und ging zu ihrer Familie nach Bethlehem in Juda und verweilte dort eine Zeit von vier Monaten.
and commit whoredom against him doth his concubine, and she goeth from him unto the house of her father, unto Beth-Lehem-Judah, and is there days — four months.
3 Darauf machte sich ihr Mann ihr nach auf den Weg, um ihr zuzureden und sie zurückzuholen; er hatte seinen Diener und ein Paar Esel bei sich. Als er nun zu ihrer Familie gelangt war, und der Vater des Mädchens ihn erblickte, war er erfreut über seine Ankunft.
And her husband riseth and goeth after her, to speak unto her heart, to bring her back, and his young man [is] with him, and a couple of asses; and she bringeth him into the house of her father, and the father of the young woman seeth him, and rejoiceth to meet him.
4 Sein Schwiegervater, der Vater des Mädchens, nahm ihn bei der Hand und führte ihn hinein, und er blieb drei Tage bei ihm. Sie aßen und tranken und blieben dort über Nacht.
And keep hold on him doth his father-in-law, father of the young woman, and he abideth with him three days, and they eat and drink, and lodge there.
5 Am vierten Tag aber, als sie sich des Morgens erhoben hatten, und er sich auf den Weg machen wollte, sagte der Vater des Mädchens zu seinem Eidam: Stärke dich erst mit einem Bissen Brot, hernach mögt ihr reisen!
And it cometh to pass, on the fourth day, that they rise early in the morning, and he riseth to go, and the father of the young woman saith unto his son-in-law, 'Support thy heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward ye go on.'
6 So blieben sie denn und die beiden aßen und tranken zusammen; dann aber bat der Vater des Mädchens den Mann: Laß es dir doch gefallen und bleibe über Nacht und sei guter Dinge!
And they sit and eat both of them together, and drink, and the father of the young woman saith unto the man, 'Be willing, I pray thee, and lodge all night, and let thy heart be glad.'
7 Aber der Mann erhob sich zum Weggehen; sein Schwiegervater nötigte ihn jedoch, daß er noch einmal über Nacht dablieb.
And the man riseth to go, and his father-in-law presseth on him, and he turneth back and lodgeth there.
8 Als er sich dann am fünften Tage frühmorgens aufmachte, um zu gehen, sagte der Vater des Mädchens: Stärke dich doch erst, und verzieht, bis der Tag sich neigt! So aßen die beiden zusammen.
And he riseth early in the morning, on the fifth day, to go, and the father of the young woman saith, 'Support, I pray thee, thy heart;' and they have tarried till the turning of the day, and they eat, both of them.
9 Als dann der Mann aufstand, um mit seinem Kebsweib und seinem Diener zu gehen, sagte sein Schwiegervater, der Vater des Mädchens, zu ihm: Sieh' doch, wie der Tag abgenommen hat, es wird Abend: bleibt doch über Nacht! Sieh', wie der Tag sich neigt: bleibe hier über Nacht und sei guter Dinge! Morgen früh mögt ihr dann eures Weges ziehen, damit du heim gelangst.
And the man riseth to go, he and his concubine, and his young man, and his father-in-law, father of the young woman, saith to him, 'Lo, I pray thee, the day hath fallen toward evening, lodge all night, I pray thee; lo, the declining of the day! lodge here, and let thine heart be glad — and ye have risen early to-morrow for your journey, and thou hast gone to thy tent.'
10 Aber der Mann weigerte sich, über Nacht zu bleiben, machte sich auf den Weg und gelangte bis gegenüber von Jebus, das ist Jerusalem. Er hatte aber ein Paar gesattelter Esel und sein Kebsweib bei sich.
And the man hath not been willing to lodge all night, and he riseth, and goeth, and cometh in till over-against Jebus (It [is] Jerusalem), and with him [are] a couple of asses saddled; and his concubine [is] with him.
11 Als sie sich nun bei Jebus befanden, und der Tag schon stark abgenommen hatte, sprach der Diener zu seinem Herrn: Komm, laß uns in der Jebusiterstadt da einkehren und darin übernachten!
They [are] near Jebus, and the day hath gone greatly down, and the young man saith unto his lord, 'Come, I pray thee, and we turn aside unto this city of the Jebusite, and lodge in it.'
12 Sein Herr entgegnete ihm: Wir wollen nicht in einer Stadt der Fremden einkehren, wo keine Israeliten wohnen, sondern wollen bis Gibea weiter ziehen.
And his lord saith unto him, 'Let us not turn aside unto the city of a stranger, that is not of the sons of Israel, thither, but we have passed over unto Gibeah.'
13 Und er sprach zu seinem Diener: Komm, wir wollen nach einer der Ortschaften hingehen und in Gibea oder Rama übernachten.
And he saith to his young man, 'Come, and we draw near to one of the places, and have lodged in Gibeah, or in Ramah.'
14 So zogen sie des Weges weiter, aber nahe bei Gibea, das zu Benjamin gehört, ging ihnen die Sonne unter.
And they pass over, and go on, and the sun goeth in upon them near Gibeah, which is to Benjamin;
15 Da kehrte sie dort ein, um in Gibea zu übernachten. Als er nun hinkam, verweilte er auf dem freien Platze der Stadt - aber da war niemand, der sie zum Übernachten in sein Haus aufgenommen hätte.
and they turn aside there to go in to lodge in Gibeah, and he goeth in and sitteth in a broad place of the city, and there is no man gathering them into the house to lodge.
16 Es erschien aber ein alter Mann, der des Abends von seiner Arbeit vom Felde heimkehrte; er stammte vom Gebirge Ephraim und verweilte als Fremdling in Gibea, während die Leute des Orts Benjaminiten waren.
And lo, a man, an aged one, hath come from his work from the field in the evening, and the man [is] of the hill-country of Ephraim, and he [is] a sojourner in Gibeah, and the men of the place [are] Benjamites.
17 Als dieser nun aufsah und den Wanderer auf dem freien Platze der Stadt erblickte, fragte der alte Mann: Wohin gehst du und woher kommst du?
And he lifteth up his eyes, and seeth the man, the traveller, in a broad place of the city, and the aged man saith, 'Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?'
18 Er antwortete ihm: Wir sind auf der Durchreise von Bethlehem in Juda nach dem Innern des Gebirges Ephraim; von da bin ich her. Ich bin nach Bethlehem in Juda gereist und bin nun unterwegs nach meinem Hause - aber da ist niemand, der mich in sein Haus aufnimmt!
And he saith unto him, 'We are passing over from Beth-Lehem-Judah unto the sides of the hill-country of Ephraim — thence I [am], and I go unto Beth-Lehem-Judah; and to the house of Jehovah I am going, and there is no man gathering me into the house,
19 Wir haben sowohl Stroh, als Futter für unsere Esel; ebenso haben wir Brot und Wein für mich und deine Magd und für den Diener, den deine Sklaven bei sich haben: an gar nichts fehlt es.
and both straw and provender are for our asses, and also bread and wine there are for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man with thy servants; there is no lack of anything.'
20 Da sagte der alte Mann: Willkommen! Nur, wenn es dir an irgend etwas gebricht, überlaß mir die Sorge! Jedenfalls aber darfst du nicht im Freien übernachten.
And the old man saith, 'Peace to thee; only, all thy lack [is] on me, only in the broad place lodge not.'
21 Hierauf führte er ihn in sein Haus und gab den Eseln Futter; und sie wuschen ihre Füße und aßen und tranken.
And he bringeth him in to his house, and mixeth [food] for the asses, and they wash their feet, and eat and drink.
22 Während sie so sich gütlich thaten, da umringen plötzlich die Männer der Stadt, nichtswürdige Menschen, das Haus, drängten gegen die Thür und riefen dem alten Manne, dem Hausherrn zu: Gieb den Mann heraus, der in deinem Haus eingekehrt ist, daß wir ihm beiwohnen!
They are making their heart glad, and lo, men of the city, men — sons of worthlessness — have gone round about the house, beating on the door, and they speak unto the old man, the master of the house, saying, 'Bring out the man who hath come unto thine house, and we know him.'
23 Da ging der Mann, der Hausherr, zu ihnen hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Nicht doch, ihr Brüder! Begeht kein Unrecht! Nachdem dieser Mann in mein Haus eingekehrt ist, dürft ihr eine solche Schandthat nicht verüben!
And the man, the master of the house, goeth out unto them, and saith unto them, 'Nay, my brethren, do not evil, I pray you, after that this man hath come in unto my house, do not this folly;
24 Da ist ja meine jungfräuliche Tochter und sein Kebsweib; die will ich euch herausgeben, und ihr mögt ihnen Gewalt anthun und mit ihnen verfahren, wie es euch gutdünkt. Aber an diesem Manne dürft ihr eine derartige Schandthat nicht verüben!
lo, my daughter, the virgin, and his concubine, let me bring them out, I pray you, and humble ye them, and do to them that which is good in your eyes, and to this man do not this foolish thing.'
25 Aber die Männer wollten nicht auf ihn hören. Da faßte der Mann sein Kebsweib und führte sie zu ihnen hinaus auf die Straße, und sie wohnten ihr bei und trieben ihren Mutwillen mit ihr die ganze Nacht hindurch bis an den Morgen und ließen sie erst los, als die Morgenröte aufging.
And the men have not been willing to hearken to him, and the man taketh hold on his concubine, and bringeth [her] out unto them without, and they know her, and roll themselves upon her all the night, till the morning, and send her away in the ascending of the dawn;
26 Als nun der Morgen anbrach, kam das Weib und brach vor der Hausthüre des Mannes, bei dem ihr Herr weilte, zusammen und blieb liegen bis zum lichten Tag.
and the woman cometh in at the turning of the morning, and falleth at the opening of the man's house, where her lord [is], till the light.
27 Als aber ihr Herr am Morgen aufstand, die Hausthür öffnete und heraustrat, um seines Weges zu ziehen, - da lag das Weib, sein Kebsweib, vor der Thüre des Hauses mit den Händen auf der Schwelle.
And her lord riseth in the morning, and openeth the doors of the house, and goeth out to go on his way, and lo, the woman, his concubine, is fallen at the opening of the house, and her hands [are] on the threshold,
28 Er redete sie an: Steh' auf, wir wollen gehn! - aber es erfolgte keine Antwort. Da lud er sie auf den Esel und der Mann machte sich auf den Weg nach seinem Wohnsitz.
and he saith unto her, 'Rise, and we go;' and there is none answering, and he taketh her on the ass, and the man riseth and goeth to his place,
29 Als er aber heimkam, nahm er ein Messer, erfaßte sein Kebsweib, zerstückte sie vollständig in zwölf Stücke und sandte sie im ganzen Bereich Israels umher.
and cometh in unto his house, and taketh the knife, and layeth hold on his concubine, and cutteth her in pieces to her bones — into twelve pieces, and sendeth her into all the border of Israel.
30 Da rief dann ein jeder, der es zu Gesichte bekam: So etwas ist nicht geschehen, noch gesehen worden seit der Zeit, wo die Israeliten aus Ägypten wegzogen bis auf den heutigen Tag! Nun bedenkt euch darüber, ratet und sprecht!
And it hath come to pass, every one who seeth hath said, 'There hath not been — yea, there hath not been seen like this, from the day of the coming up of the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt till this day; set your [heart] upon it, take counsel, and speak.'
