Johannes 4
1 Wie nun der Herr inne ward, daß die Pharisäer gehört hatten, daß Jesus mehr Jünger gewinne und taufe als Johannes
Now when Jesus knew that the Pharisees had heard that he was making and baptizing more disciples than John
2 (wiewohl Jesus nicht selbst taufte, sondern seine Jünger),
(although Jesus himself was not baptizing, but his disciples were),
3 verließ er Judäa und gieng wieder hin nach Galiläa.
he left Judea and went back again to Galilee.
4 Er mußte aber durch Samarien reisen.
But it was necessary for him to go through Samaria.
5 So kommt er in eine Stadt in Samarien Namens Sychar, nahe dem Feld, welches Jakob seinem Sohne Joseph gegeben hat.
So he came to a town of Samaria, called Sychar, near the piece of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
6 Es war aber daselbst eine Quelle Jakobs. Jesus nun, müde von der Wanderung, setzte sich also bei der Quelle, es war ungefähr die sechste Stunde.
The well of Jacob was there. Jesus was tired from his journey and sat by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7 Kommt eine Frau aus Samarien, um Wasser zu schöpfen. Sagt Jesus zu ihr: gib mir zu trinken.
A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Give me some water to drink.”
8 Denn seine Jünger waren in die Stadt gegangen, um Lebensmittel zu kaufen.
For his disciples had gone away into the town to buy food.
9 Da sagt die Samaritische Frau zu ihm: wie magst du, der du ein Jude bist, von mir, die ich eine Samaritische Frau bin, zu trinken verlangen? (denn die Juden verkehren nicht mit den Samaritern.)
Then the Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, are asking me, being a Samaritan woman, for something to drink?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
10 Antwortete Jesus und sagte zu ihr: wenn du die Gabe Gottes kenntest, und wer es ist, der zu dir sagt: gib mir zu trinken, so würdest du ihn bitten und er würde dir lebendiges Wasser geben.
Jesus answered and said to her, “If you had known the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”
11 Sagt die Frau zu ihm: Herr, du hast keinen Schöpfeimer und der Brunnen ist tief; woher willst du das lebendige Wasser haben?
The woman said to him, “Sir, you do not have a bucket and the well is deep. Where then do you have the living water?
12 bist du denn mehr als unser Vater Jakob, der uns den Brunnen gegeben hat und trank daraus, er selbst und seine Söhne und seine Herden?
You are not greater, are you, than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his cattle?”
13 Antwortete Jesus und sagte ihr: Jeder, der von diesem Wasser trinkt, bekommt wieder Durst.
Jesus replied and said to her, “Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again,
15 Sagt die Frau zu ihm: Herr, gib mir dieses Wasser, damit ich keinen Durst bekomme, noch hierher zu gehen brauche, um zu schöpfen.
The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I may not become thirsty and not have to come here to draw water.”
16 Sagt er zu ihr: gehe hin, rufe deinen Mann, und komme hierher.
Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come back here.”
17 Antwortete die Frau und sagte: ich habe keinen Mann. Sagt Jesus zu ihr: du hast recht gesprochen: ich habe keinen Mann.
The woman answered and said to him, “I do not have a husband.” Jesus replied, “You are right in saying, 'I have no husband,'
18 Denn fünf Männer hast du gehabt, und den du jetzt hast, der ist nicht dein Mann, darin hast du die Wahrheit gesagt.
for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.”
19 Sagt die Frau zu ihm: Herr, ich merke, daß du ein Prophet bist.
The woman said to him, “Sir, I see that you are a prophet.
20 Unsere Väter haben auf diesem Berge angebetet, und ihr sagt, daß in Jerusalem der Ort sei, wo man anbeten soll.
Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that Jerusalem is the place where people have to worship.”
21 Sagt Jesus zu ihr: glaube mir, Weib, es kommt die Stunde, wo ihr weder auf diesem Berge noch in Jerusalem werdet den Vater anbeten.
Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, that an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
22 Ihr betet an, was ihr nicht kennet; wir beten an, was wir kennen, weil das Heil von den Juden ist.
You worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
23 Aber es kommt die Stunde und ist jetzt da, wo die wahrhaftigen Anbeter werden den Vater anbeten in Geist und Wahrheit; denn der Vater verlangt solche Anbeter.
However, the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to be his worshipers.
24 Gott ist Geist, und die ihn anbeten, müssen in Geist und Wahrheit anbeten.
God is Spirit, and the people who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 Sagt die Frau zu ihm: ich weiß, daß der Messias kommt (was man Christus heißt). Wenn der kommt, wird er uns alles verkünden.
The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah is coming (the one called Christ). When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Sagt Jesus zu ihr: ich bin es, der mit dir spricht.
Jesus said to her, “I am he, the one speaking to you.”
27 Und darüber kamen seine Jünger und verwunderten sich, daß er mit einer Frau sprach. Keiner jedoch sagte: was willst du, oder was sprichst du mit ihr?
At that moment his disciples returned. Now they were wondering why he was speaking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you want?” or “Why are you speaking with her?”
28 Da ließ die Frau ihren Krug stehen, und gieng fort in die Stadt und sagt zu den Leuten:
So the woman left her water pot, went back to the town, and said to the people,
29 kommt und sehet einen Menschen, der mir alles gesagt hat, was ich gethan habe. Ist das etwa der Christus?
“Come, see a man who told me everything that I have ever done. This could not be the Christ, could it?”
30 Sie giengen aus der Stadt heraus und kamen zu ihm.
They left the town and came to him.
31 Inzwischen baten ihn die Jünger: Rabbi, iß.
In the meantime, the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”
32 Er aber sagte zu ihnen: ich habe eine Speise zu essen, die ihr nicht kennt.
But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”
33 Da sprachen die Jünger zu einander: hat ihm denn jemand zu essen gebracht?
So the disciples said to each other, “No one has brought him anything to eat, have they?”
34 Sagt Jesus zu ihnen: meine Speise ist, daß ich thue den Willen dessen, der mich gesandt hat und vollende sein Werk.
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work.
35 Saget ihr nicht: es ist noch vier Monate so kommt die Ernte? siehe ich sage euch: hebet eure Augen auf, und schaut die Felder an, wie sie weiß sind zur Ernte.
Do you not say, 'There are four more months and then the harvest comes'? I am saying to you, look up and see the fields, for they are already ripe for harvest!
36 Schon empfängt der Schnitter seinen Lohn, und sammelt Frucht zu ewigem Leben, damit der da sät und der da erntet sich gemeinsam freuen. (aiōnios g166)
He who is harvesting receives wages and gathers fruit for everlasting life, so that he who sows and he who harvests may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
37 Denn hier hat der Spruch seine Wahrheit, daß ein anderer ist der da sät, und ein anderer der da erntet.
For in this the saying, 'One sows, and another harvests,' is true.
38 Ich habe euch ausgesandt zu ernten, was ihr nicht gearbeitet habt; andere haben gearbeitet und ihr seid in ihre Arbeit eingetreten.
I sent you to harvest what you have not worked for. Others have worked, and you have entered into their labor.”
39 Aus jener Stadt aber faßten viele von den Samaritern Glauben an ihn, um der Rede der Frau willen, die bezeugte: er hat mir alles gesagt, was ich gethan habe.
Many of the Samaritans in that city believed in him because of the report of the woman who was testifying, “He told me everything that I have done.”
40 Wie nun die Samariter zu ihm kamen, baten sie ihn, bei ihnen zu bleiben, und er blieb daselbst zwei Tage.
So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.
41 Und noch viel mehrere lernten glauben um seines Wortes willen,
Many more believed because of his word.
42 und sagten zu der Frau: wir glauben nicht mehr deiner Rede wegen, denn wir haben selbst gehört und erkennen, daß dieser ist wahrhaftig der Heiland der Welt.
They said to the woman, “We no longer believe because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this one is indeed the savior of the world.”
43 Nach den zwei Tagen aber zog er von da weg nach Galiläa.
After those two days, he departed from there for Galilee.
44 (Denn Jesus hat selbst bezeugt: daß ein Prophet in seiner Vaterstadt nicht geschätzt wird.)
For Jesus himself declared that a prophet has no honor in his own country.
45 Wie er nun nach Galiläa kam, nahmen ihn die Galiläer auf, da sie alles gesehen, was er in Jerusalem am Feste gethan hatte; (denn sie kamen auch zum Fest).
When he came into Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all the things that he had done in Jerusalem at the festival, for they had also gone to the festival.
46 So kam er denn wieder nach Kana in Galiläa, wo er das Wasser zu Wein gemacht hatte. Und es war ein Königlicher in Kapernaum, dessen Sohn krank war.
Now he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. There was a certain royal official whose son in Capernaum was ill.
47 Da dieser hörte, daß Jesus aus Judäa nach Galiläa komme, gieng er zu ihm hin und bat ihn, daß er herunter käme, und seinen Sohn heilte; denn er wollte sterben.
When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to Jesus and asked him to come down and heal his son, who was about to die.
48 Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: wenn ihr nicht Zeichen und Wunder sehet, möget ihr nicht glauben.
Jesus then said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”
49 Sagt der Königliche zu ihm: Herr, komme herunter, ehe mein Kind stirbt.
The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
50 Sagt Jesus zu ihm: gehe hin, dein Sohn lebt. Der Mann glaubte dem Worte, das Jesus zu ihm sagte, und gieng hin.
Jesus said to him, “Go. Your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went away.
51 Aber schon auf dem Wege hinunter begegneten ihm seine Knechte, und meldeten, daß sein Knabe lebe.
While he was going down, his servants met him, saying that his son was living.
52 Da erforschte er von ihnen die Stunde, in der es besser mit ihm geworden. Da sagten sie ihm: gestern um die siebente Stunde verließ ihn das Fieber.
So he asked them the hour when he began to improve. They replied to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”
53 Da erkannte der Vater, daß es in der Stunde war, in der Jesus zu ihm gesagt hatte: dein Sohn lebt; und er wurde glaubend und sein ganzes Haus.
Then the father realized that it was at that hour that Jesus had said to him, “Your son lives.” So he himself and his whole household believed.
54 Das war das zweite Zeichen, welches Jesus wiederum that, da er von Judäa nach Galiläa kam.
This was the second sign that Jesus did when he came out of Judea to Galilee.
