Job 2
1 Nun geschah es eines Tags, daß die Gottessöhne kamen, sich vor Jahwe zu stellen, und auch der Satan kam unter ihnen, sich vor Jahwe zu stellen.
And it happened [again] on a certain day, when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, that the Accuser also came in the midst of them to present himself before the Lord.
2 Da fragte Jahwe den Satan: Woher kommst du? Der Satan antwortete Jahwe und sprach: Von einem Streifzug auf der Erde und vom Umherwandeln auf ihr!
Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Whence comest thou now? And the Accuser answered the Lord, and said, From roaming over the earth, and from wandering through it.
3 Da sprach Jahwe zum Satan: hast du wohl acht gehabt auf meinen Knecht Hiob? Denn seinesgleichen giebt es niemand auf Erden, so unsträflich und rechtschaffen, gottesfürchtig und dem Bösen feind. Noch hält er fest an seiner Frömmigkeit, und du hast mich somit verleitet, ihn ohne Grund zu verderben!
Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Hast thou directed thy attention toward my servant Job: for there is none like him on the earth, a man perfect and upright, who feareth God, and escheweth evil? and he is still holding fast to his integrity, and thou hast incited me against him, to destroy him without cause.
4 Der Satan antwortete Jahwe und sprach: Haut um Haut! - und alles, was der Mensch hat, giebt er dahin für sein Leben!
Then answered the Accuser the Lord, and said, Skin for skin: yea, all that a man hath will he give in behalf of his life.
5 Aber recke nur einmal deine Hand aus und taste sein Gebein und Fleisch an, so wird er sich sicherlich offen von dir lossagen!
But stretch only forth thy hand, and touch his bone and his flesh, and [see] whether he will not renounce thee to thy face.
6 Da sprach Jahwe zum Satan: Wohlan, er sei in deiner Gewalt, nur schone sein Leben!
Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Behold, he is in thy hand: only take care of his life.
7 Da ging der Satan von Jahwe hinweg und schlug Hiob mit bösartigem Geschwür von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel.
Thereupon went the Accuser forth from the presence of the Lord, and he smote Job with a sore inflammation, from the sole of his foot unto the crown of his head.
8 Und er nahm sich eine Scherbe, um sich damit zu kratzen, und saß dabei mitten in der Asche.
And [Job] took himself a potsherd to scrape himself there with, while he was sitting down among the ashes.
9 Da sprach sein Weib zu ihm: Hältst du noch fest an deiner Frömmigkeit? Sage dich los von Gott und stirb!
Then said his wife unto him, Art thou still holding fast to thy integrity? renounce God, and die.
10 Er aber sprach zu ihr: Du redest, wie die erste beste Thörin redet. Das Gute nahmen wir von Gott an und sollten das Böse nicht auch annehmen? Bei alledem versündigte sich Hiob nicht mit seinen Lippen.
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the worthless women would speak. What? should we accept the good alone, from God, and the evil we should not accept? With all this did Job not sin with his lips.
11 Als nun die drei Freunde Hiobs von all' diesem Unglück hörten, das ihn betroffen hatte, machten sie sich auf, ein jeder von seinem Wohnort: Eliphas von Theman, Bildad von Suah und Zophar von Naama, und verabredeten sich miteinander, hinzugehen, um ihm ihr Beileid zu bezeugen und ihn zu trösten.
When now the three friends of Job had heard of all this evil that was come over him, they came every one from his own place, Eliphaz the Themanite, and Bildad the Shuchite, and Zophar the Na'amthite; and they met together to come to condole with him and to comfort him.
12 Als sie nun in einiger Entfernung von ihm ihre Augen aufschlugen, erkannten sie ihn nicht wieder; da fingen sie laut zu weinen an, zerrissen ein jeder sein Gewand und warfen Staub gen Himmel auf ihre Häupter herab.
And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and they recognised him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his robe, and strewed dust upon their heads toward heaven.
13 Und so saßen sie bei ihm an der Erde sieben Tage und sieben Nächte, ohne daß einer ein Wort zu ihm redete, denn sie sahen, daß sein Schmerz allzu groß war.
They likewise sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights; but no one spoke a word unto him; for they saw that his pain was very great.
