Jeremia 3

1 Und es erging das Wort Jahwes an mich also: Wenn einer sein Weib entläßt, und sie von ihm fortgeht und einen andern heiratet, kann er dann wohl wieder zu ihr zurückkehren? Würde dadurch ein solches Land nicht entweiht werden? Du aber hast mit vielen Buhlen gehurt und solltest doch zu mir zurückkehren dürfen? - ist der Spruch Jahwes.

They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, will he return unto her again? will not that land be greatly polluted? But thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith Jehovah.

2 Blicke doch hinauf zu den kahlen Höhen und sieh zu: Wo bist du nicht geschändet worden? An den Wegen sitzend lauertest du auf sie wie ein Araber in der Wüste und entweihtest das Land durch deine Buhlerei und deine Bosheit.

Lift up thine eyes unto the bare heights, and see; where hast thou not been lain with? By the ways hast thou sat for them, as an Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.

3 Und wurden auch die Regenschauer vorenthalten und fiel kein Spätregen, du zeigtest doch die Stirn eines hurerischen Weibes; du wolltest dich nicht schämen.

Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; yet thou hadst a harlot’s forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.

4 Freilich, nunmehr rufst du mir zu: Mein Vater! der Vertraute meiner Jugend bist du!

Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My Father, thou art the guide of my youth?

5 Wird er denn immerdar grollen oder auf ewig nachtragen? Ja, so sprichst du, thust aber das Böse und gewinnst es über dich.

Will he retain [his anger] for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and hast done evil things, and hast had thy way.

6 Und Jahwe sprach zu mir in den Tagen des Königs Josia also: Hast du gesehen, was die Abtrünnige, Israel, gethan hat? Sie ging hin auf jeglichen hohen Berg und unter jeglichen grünen Baum und hurte daselbst.

Moreover Jehovah said unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

7 Zwar dachte ich: Nachdem sie alle diese Greuel verübt hat, wird sie zu mir zurückkehren, aber sie kehrte nicht zurück! Das sah die Treulose, ihre Schwester Juda,

And I said after she had done all these things, She will return unto me; but she returned not: and her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

8 und obwohl sie sah, daß ich eben deshalb, weil die Abtrünnige, Israel, Ehebruch getrieben, sie entlassen und ihr den Scheidebrief gegeben hatte, scheute die Treulose, ihre Schwester Juda, sich dennoch nicht, ging vielmehr hin und hurte gleichfalls,

And I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorcement, yet treacherous Judah her sister feared not; but she also went and played the harlot.

9 und durch ihre leichtfertige Hurerei entweihte sie das Land und trieb Ehebruch mit dem Stein und mit dem Holz.

And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that the land was polluted, and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

10 Aber trotz alledem ist die Treulose, ihre Schwester Juda, nicht von ganzem Herzen, sondern nur heuchlerischer Weise zu mir zurückgekehrt! - ist der Spruch Jahwes.

And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not returned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith Jehovah.

11 Da sprach Jahwe zu mir: Die Abtrünnige, Israel, steht unschuldig da im Vergleiche mit der Treulosen, Juda!

And Jehovah said unto me, Backsliding Israel hath showed herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.

12 Gehe hin und rufe diese Worte nach Norden hin und sprich: Kehre wieder, du Abtrünnige, Israel - ist der Spruch Jahwes -, nicht werde ich länger auf euch zürnen, denn huldreich bin ich - ist der Spruch Jahwes -, ich grolle nicht ewig!

Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith Jehovah; I will not look in anger upon you; for I am merciful, saith Jehovah, I will not keep [anger] for ever.

13 Nur erkenne deine Verschuldung, daß du von Jahwe, deinem Gott, abgefallen bist, daß du Kreuz- und Querwege eingeschlagen hast, um dich den Fremden hinzugeben unter jeglichem grünen Baume: mir aber habt ihr nicht gehorcht, - ist der Spruch Jahwes.

Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against Jehovah thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith Jehovah.

14 Kehrt wieder, ihr abtrünnigen Söhne - ist der Spruch Jahwes -, denn ich, ja ich bin euer Herr! Und ich will euch je einen aus einer Stadt und je zwei aus einem Geschlechte nehmen und euch nach Zion bringen

Return, O backsliding children, saith Jehovah; for I am a husband unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

15 und will euch Hirten nach meinem Sinne geben, daß sie euch weiden mit Einsicht und Klugheit.

And I will give you shepherds according to my heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

16 Wenn ihr euch dann mehrt und fruchtbar seid im Land in jenen Tagen - ist der Spruch Jahwes -, dann wird man nicht mehr sagen: Die Lade mit dem Gesetze Jahwes! und sie wird niemandem mehr in den Sinn kommen, noch wird man ihrer gedenken, noch sie vermissen, noch wird man je wieder eine anfertigen;

And it shall come to pass, when ye are multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith Jehovah, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of Jehovah; neither shall it come to mind; neither shall they remember it; neither shall they miss it; neither shall it be made any more.

17 vielmehr wird man zu jener Zeit Jerusalem “Thron Jahwes” nennen, und es werden sich dahin alle Heiden versammeln, um des Namens Jahwes willen, und werden fernerhin nicht mehr starrsinnig ihrem eigenen bösen Sinne folgen.

At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of Jehovah; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of Jehovah, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

18 In jenen Tagen wird das Haus Juda mit dem Hause Israel zusammengehen und sie werden miteinander aus dem Nordland in das Land kommen, das ich euren Vätern zum Besitztum verliehen habe.

In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I gave for an inheritance unto your fathers.

19 Ich zwar hatte gedacht: Wie will ich dich ausstatten unter meinen Kinder und dir ein liebliches Land, den allerherrlichsten Erbbesitz unter allen Völkern, verleihen! Und weiter dachte ich: Mein Vater! würdet ihr mich nennen und nicht davon lassen, mir nachzufolgen.

But I said, How I will put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of the nations! and I said, Ye shall call me My Father, and shall not turn away from following me.

20 Aber wie ein Weib ihrem Buhlen untreu wird, so seid ihr mir untreu geworden, ihr vom Hause Israel, - ist der Spruch Jahwes.

Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith Jehovah.

21 Horch! auf den kahlen Höhen wird es laut: flehentliches Weinen der Kinder Israel, weil sie auf krummen Pfaden gewandelt waren, Jahwes, ihres Gottes vergessen hatten!

A voice is heard upon the bare heights, the weeping [and] the supplications of the children of Israel; because they have perverted their way, they have forgotten Jehovah their God.

22 Kehrt zurück, ihr abtrünnigen Söhne: ich will eure Abfallssünden heilen! - Da sind wir, wir kommen zu dir, denn du bist Jahwe, unser Gott.

Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we are come unto thee; for thou art Jehovah our God.

23 Fürwahr, trügerisch ist von Hügeln her Lärm, von Bergen her! Fürwahr bei Jahwe, unserem Gott, allein ist Heil für Israel!

Truly in vain is [the help that is looked for] from the hills, the tumult on the mountains: truly in Jehovah our God is the salvation of Israel.

24 Verzehrt hat die Schande den Erwerb unserer Väter von unserer Jugend an, ihre Schafe und ihre Rinder, ihre Söhne und ihre Töchter!

But the shameful thing hath devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

25 Hinlegen wollen wir uns in unsere Schande und zudecken soll uns unsere Schmach; denn an Jahwe, unserem Gotte, haben wir gesündigt, wir und unsere Väter, von unserer Jugend an bis auf den heutigen Tag, und haben nicht auf die Mahnung Jahwes, unseres Gottes, gehört.

Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day; and we have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God.
