Jeremia 12

1 Du bleibst im Rechte, Jahwe, wenn ich mit dir hadern wollte! Doch zur Rede möchte ich dich stellen, warum das Treiben der Frevler Gelingen hat, warum alle, die treulos handeln, unangefochten bleiben?

Righteous, art thou O Yahweh, when I present my pleading unto thee, —Yet, concerning the things that are right, let me speak with thee, —Wherefore hath, the way of the lawless, prospered? [Wherefore] have all, utter traitors, been at ease?

2 Du pflanzest sie ein, sie schlagen auch Wurzel, sie gedeihen, bringen auch Frucht: nahe bist du ihnen ihren Reden nach, aber fern von ihrem Innern!

Thou didst plant them, yea they took root, They have gone on yea they have borne fruit, —Near, art thou, in their mouth, But far off from their affections,

3 Du aber, Jahwe, kennst mich, durchschaust mich und hast meine Gesinnung gegen dich erprobt: reiße sie fort wie Schafe zum Schlachten und weihe sie dem Tage des Würgens.

But thou O Yahweh, knowest me, Wilt thou observe me and try my heart towards thee? Drag them away, as sheep for slaughter, And hallow them for the day when they are to be slain.

4 Wie lange noch soll das Land trauern, und die Pflanzen überall auf der Flur verdorren? Ob der Bosheit der darin Wohnenden schwinden Tiere und Vögel dahin, - weil sie sagen: Er wird das Ende, das es mit uns nimmt, nicht sehen!

How long, shall the land mourn, And, the herbage of the whole field, wither? For the wickedness of them that dwell therein, beast and bird, have perished, For say they, He will not see our latter end!

5 Wenn du mit Fußgängern läufst, und die dich schon ermüden, wie willst du da mit Rossen um die Wette laufen? - und fühlst du dich nur in friedlichem Lande sicher, wie wilst du da thun im Dickichte des Jordans?

If, with the footmen, thou hast run and they have wearied thee, How then wilt thou hotly contend with horses? Though in a safe land thou art confident, Yet how wilt thou deal with the proud banks of the Jordan?

6 Denn selbst deine Verwandten und deine Familie - auch sie sind treulos gegen dich, auch sie haben dir aus vollem Halse nachgeschrieen; traue ihnen nicht, wenn sie Freundliches zu dir reden!

For even thy brethren and the house of thy father, Even they! have betrayed thee, Even they, have cried after thee with full voice, —Do not trust in them, though they speak unto thee fair words.

7 Preisgegeben habe ich mein Haus, verstoßen mein Eigentum; was mir das Liebste ist, habe ich in die Gewalt seiner Feinde dahingegeben.

I have forsaken mine own house, I have given up mine inheritance, —I have delivered the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies:

8 Mein Eigentum ward für mich gleich einem Löwen im Wald: es erhob ein Gebrüll wider mich, deshalb hasse ich es!

Mine inheritance, hath become to me as a lion in a jungle, —She hath given forth against me her voice, For this cause, have I hated her.

9 Ist denn mein Eigentum nicht für mich wie ein bunter Vogel? Sammeln sich nicht schon die Vögel von allen Seiten wider es? Wohlan! versammelt alle Tiere des Feldes, laßt sie herbeikommen zum Fraße!

Is it, a variegated bird of prey, that mine inheritance is to me? The birds of prey, are round about against her! Go ye, assemble all the beasts of the field bring them to devour.

10 Zahlreiche Hirten haben meinen Weinberg verwüstet, mein Grundstück zertreten, haben das Grundstück, das meine Lust war, zur wüsten Trift gemacht.

Many shepherds, have laid waste my vineyard, They have trampled down my portion, —They have turned my coveted portion into a desert of desolation:

11 Zur Wüstenei hat man es gemacht, es trauert vor mir verwüstet; verwüstet ist das ganze Land, weil sich's niemand zu Herzen gehen läßt.

It hath been made a desolation, It hath mourned unto me as desolate, —All the land hath become a desolation, For, no man, layeth it to heart.

12 Über alle kahlen Höhen in der Trift sind Verwüster gekommen; denn ein Schwert hat Jahwe, das von einem Ende des Landes bis zum anderen frißt, da bleibt keins von allen Geschöpfen unversehrt.

On all the bare heights in the wilderness, have come despoilers, For the sword of Yahweh hath devoured from one end of the land unto the other, —There is peace for no flesh!

13 Sie haben Weizen gesät, aber Dornen geerntet; sie haben sich abgeplagt, ohne Nutzen davon zu haben, und so sollt ihr denn zu Schanden werden mit euren Erträgnissen durch die Zornglut Jahwes.

They sowed, wheat, but thorns, have they reaped, They have put themselves to pain they shall not be profited, —Yea turn ye pale at your produce, Because of the glow of the anger of Yahweh.

14 So spricht Jahwe - über alle meine bösen Nachbarn, die das Eigentum, das ich meinem Volk Israel zu eigen gab, antasteten: Fürwahr, ich will sie hinwegreißen von ihrem Boden und will das Haus Juda aus ihrer Mitte herausreißen!

Thus, saith Yahweh, Concerning all my wicked neighbours, who have been touching the inheritance which I gave as an inheritance unto my people Israel, —Behold me! uprooting them from off their own soil, Whereas the house of Judah, will I uproot out of their midst.

15 Darnach aber, nachdem ich sie hinweggerissen habe, will ich mich ihrer wieder erbarmen und will sie heimbringen, einen jeden in seinen Besitz und einen jeden in sein Land.

And it shall come to pass after I bare uprooted them, I will again have compassion upon them, —and will bring them back—Every man—to his own inheritance and Every man—to his own land.

16 Wenn sie sich alsdann an die Weise meines Volks gewöhnen werden, daß sie bei meinem Namen schwören: So wahr Jahwe lebt! gleichwie sie mein Volk daran gewöhnt haben, beim Baal zu schwören, sollen sie inmitten meines Volkes aufgebaut werden;

And it shall come to pass—If they will, diligently learn, the ways of my people—To swear by my Name saying, By the life of Yahweh, As they taught my people to swear by Baal, Then shall they be built in the midst of my people.

17 wenn sie aber nicht hören, werde ich selbiges Volk ganz und gar ausreißen und vertilgen - ist der Spruch Jahwes.

But if they will not hearken, Then will I Uproot that nation, Uproot, that I may destroy, —Declareth Yahweh.
