1 Mose 29
1 Da machte sich Jakob auf den Weg und wanderte in das Gebiet der gegen Morgen wohnenden.
And Jacob lifts up his feet, and goes toward the land of the sons of the east;
2 Da erblickte er dort in der Steppe einen Brunnen; an dem lagerten gerade drei Herden, denn aus diesem Brunnen pflegten sie die Herden zu tränken. Über dem Brunnenloch aber lag ein schwerer Stein.
and he looks, and behold, a well in the field, and behold, there [are] three droves of a flock crouching by it, for they water the droves from that well, and the great stone [is] on the mouth of the well.
3 Und wenn alle Herden dorthin zusammengetrieben waren, dann wälzten sie den Stein vom Brunnenloch ab und tränkten die Schafe; sodann schafften sie den Stein wieder zurück auf das Brunnenloch an seinen Ort.
(When all the droves have been gathered there, and they have rolled the stone from off the mouth of the well, and have watered the flock, then they have turned back the stone on the mouth of the well to its place.)
4 Da sprach Jakob zu ihnen: Liebe Brüder! woher seid ihr? Sie antworteten: Von Haran sind wir!
And Jacob says to them, “My brothers, where [are] you from?” And they say, “We [are] from Haran.”
5 Da sprach er zu ihnen: Kennt ihr Laban, den Sohn Nahors? Sie antworteten: Jawohl!
And he says to them, “Have you known Laban, son of Nahor?” And they say, “We have known.”
6 Da sprach er zu ihnen: Geht es ihm wohl? Sie antworteten: Es geht ihm wohl! Da kommt eben seine Tochter Rahel mit den Schafen!
And he says to them, “Does he have peace?” And they say, “Peace; and behold, his daughter Rachel is coming with the flock.”
7 Da sagte er: Es ist ja noch hoch am Tage und noch zu früh, das Vieh einzutreiben. Tränkt die Schafe und laßt sie dann wieder weiden!
And he says, “Behold, the day [is] still great, [it is] not time for the livestock to be gathered; water the flock, and go, delight yourselves.”
8 Sie sprachen: Wir können nicht, bis alle Herden zusammengetrieben sind; dann wälzt man den Stein vom Brunnenloch ab, und wir tränken die Schafe.
And they say, “We are not able, until all the droves be gathered together, and they have rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we have watered the flock.”
9 Während er noch mit ihnen redete, war Rahel mit den Schafen ihres Vaters herangekommen, denn sie hütete die Schafe.
He is yet speaking with them, and Rachel has come with the flock which her father has, for she [is] shepherdess;
10 Als nun Jakob die Rahel, die Tochter Labans, des Bruders seiner Mutter, erblickte, dazu die Schafe Labans, des Bruders seiner Mutter, da trat Jakob herzu, wälzte den Stein vom Brunnenloch ab und tränkte die Schafe Labans, des Bruders seiner Mutter.
and it comes to pass, when Jacob has seen Rachel, daughter of his mother’s brother Laban, and the flock of his mother’s brother Laban, that Jacob comes near and rolls the stone from off the mouth of the well, and waters the flock of his mother’s brother Laban.
11 Hierauf küßte Jakob die Rahel und fing laut zu weinen an.
And Jacob kisses Rachel, and lifts up his voice, and weeps,
12 Und Jakob berichtete der Rahel, daß er ein Vetter ihres Vaters und daß er ein Sohn Rebekas sei; da lief sie hin und berichtete es ihrem Vater.
and Jacob declares to Rachel that he [is] her father’s brother, and that he [is] Rebekah’s son, and she runs and declares [it] to her father.
13 Als nun Laban solche Kunde über Jakob, den Sohn seiner Schwester, vernahm, da eilte er ihm entgegen, herzte und küßte ihn und führte ihn hinein in sein Haus; er aber erzählte dem Laban alles, was vorangegangen war.
And it comes to pass, when Laban hears the report of his sister’s son Jacob, that he runs to meet him, and embraces him, and kisses him, and brings him into his house; and he recounts to Laban all these things,
14 Da sprach Laban zu ihm: Ja, du bist von meinem Bein und Fleisch! Als er nun einen Monat lang bei ihm gewesen war,
and Laban says to him, “You [are] surely my bone and my flesh”; and he dwells with him a month of days.
15 da sprach Laban zu Jakob: Du bist ja doch mein Vetter! Solltest du da umsonst für mich arbeiten? Sage mir, worin soll dein Lohn bestehen?
And Laban says to Jacob, “Is it because you [are] my brother that you have served me for nothing? Declare to me what your hire [is].”
16 Nun hatte Laban zwei Töchter; die ältere hieß Lea, die jüngere hieß Rahel.
And Laban has two daughters, the name of the older [is] Leah, and the name of the younger Rachel,
17 Lea aber hatte glanzlose Augen, während Rahel schön von Gestalt und schön von Antlitz war.
and the eyes of Leah [are] tender, and Rachel has been beautiful of form and beautiful of appearance.
18 Und Jakob liebte die Rahel; darum sprach er: Ich will dir sieben Jahre um Rahel, deine jüngere Tochter, dienen!
And Jacob loves Rachel and says, “I serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter”:
19 Laban antwortete: Besser, ich gebe sie dir, als daß ich sie einem fremden Manne gebe; bleibe bei mir!
and Laban says, “It is better for me to give her to you than to give her to another man; dwell with me”;
20 So diente Jakob um Rahel sieben Jahre, und sie dünkten ihm wie wenige Tage, so lieb hatte er sie.
and Jacob serves for Rachel seven years; and they are in his eyes as some days, because of his loving her.
21 Darnach sprach Jakob zu Laban: Gieb mir mein Weib - denn meine Zeit ist um -, daß ich ihr beiwohne.
And Jacob says to Laban, “Give up my wife, for my days have been fulfilled, and I go in to her”;
22 Da lud Laban alle Bewohner des Ortes ein und veranstaltete ein Gastmahl.
and Laban gathers all the men of the place, and makes a banquet.
23 Am Abend aber nahm er seine Tochter Lea und brachte sie zu ihm hinein, und er wohnte ihr bei.
And it comes to pass in the evening, that he takes his daughter Leah, and brings her to him, and he goes in to her;
24 Und Laban gab ihr seine Sklavin Silpa, der Lea, seiner Tochter, zur Leibmagd.
and Laban gives his maidservant Zilpah to her, to his daughter Leah, [for] a maidservant.
25 Am Morgen aber befand sich, daß es Lea war. Da sprach er zu Laban: Was hast du mir angethan? Habe ich nicht um Rahel bei dir gedient? Warum hast du mich denn betrogen?
And it comes to pass in the morning, that behold, it [is] Leah; and he says to Laban, “What [is] this you have done to me? Have I not served with you for Rachel? And why have you deceived me?”
26 Laban antwortete: Es ist hier zu Lande nicht der Brauch, daß man die Jüngere vor der Älteren weggiebt.
And Laban says, “It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn;
27 Führe mit dieser die Woche zu Ende, so soll dir auch die andere zu teil werden, um den Dienst, den du noch weitere sieben Jahre bei mir thun wirst!
fulfill the period of seven [for] this one, and we also give to you this one, for the service which you serve with me yet seven other years.”
28 Jakob aber that also und führte die Woche mit ihr zu Ende; alsdann gab er ihm auch seine Tochter Rahel zum Weibe.
And Jacob does so, and fulfills the period of seven [for] this one, and he gives his daughter Rachel to him for a wife for him;
29 Und Laban gab seiner Tochter Rahel seine Sklavin Bilha zur Leibmagd.
and Laban gives his maidservant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel for a maidservant for her.
30 Da wohnte er auch der Rahel bei und hatte Rahel lieber, als Lea. Und er diente bei ihm noch weitere sieben Jahre.
And he also goes in to Rachel, and he also loves Rachel more than Leah; and he serves with him yet seven other years.
31 Als nun Jahwe sah, daß Lea zurückgesetzt ward, machte er sie fruchtbar, während Rahel unfruchtbar war.
And YHWH sees that Leah [is] the hated one, and He opens her womb, and Rachel [is] barren;
32 Da wurde Lea schwanger und gebar einen Sohn, den nannte sie Ruben, denn, sprach sie, Jahwe hat mein Elend angesehen. Nun wird mein Mann mich sicherlich lieb haben!
and Leah conceives, and bears a son, and calls his name Reuben, for she said, “Because YHWH has looked on my affliction; because now does my husband love me.”
33 Hierauf wurde sie abermals schwanger und gebar einen Sohn. Da sprach sie: Jahwe hat gehört, daß ich zurückgesetzt bin; darum gab er mir auch diesen. Und sie nannte ihn Simeon.
And she conceives again, and bears a son, and says, “Because YHWH has heard that I [am] the hated one, He also gives to me even this [one]”; and she calls his name Simeon.
34 Hierauf wurde sie abermals schwanger und gebar einen Sohn. Da sprach sie: Nun endlich wird mein Mann mir anhängen, da ich ihm drei Söhne geboren habe; darum nannte sie ihn Levi.
And she conceives again and bears a son, and says, “Now [is] the time, my husband is joined to me, because I have born to him three sons,” therefore has [one] called his name Levi.
35 Sodann wurde sie nochmals schwanger und gebar einen Sohn. Da sprach sie: Nunmehr will ich Jahwe preisen! Darum nannte sie ihn Juda. Darnach aber gebar sie weiter kein Kind.
And she conceives again and bears a son, and this time says, “I praise YHWH”; therefore has she called his name Judah; and she ceases from bearing.
