Hesekiel 5

1 Du aber, Menschensohn, nimm dir ein scharfes Schwert - zum Scheermesser sollst du es nehmen - und laß es über dein Haupt und über deinen Bart gehen; sodann nimm eine Wage und teile die Haare.

“Also, you human, [when you start doing those things, ] take a sharp sword and use it like [SIM] a razor to shave your head and your beard. Then put the hair that you shaved off on scales, and divide the [into three equal parts].

2 Ein Drittel sollst du inmitten der Stadt mit Feuer verbrennen, wenn die Zeit der Belagerung voll ist; das zweite Drittel aber sollst du nehmen und mit dem Schwerte rings um es her schlagen und das dritte Drittel sollst du in den Wind streuen, und ich will hinter ihnen her das Schwert zücken!

When the time during [you will symbolize that] the city will be [by enemy troops] ends, put a third of the hair inside [drawing of the] city and burn it. Take another third of the hair, [scatter it] all [the drawing of] the city, and then strike it with your sword. That will symbolize that I will strike the people of Jerusalem [their enemies’] swords. Then allow the wind to scatter the other third of the hair. That will symbolize [even if they flee from the city], I will [cause their enemies to] pursue them and attack them with swords.

3 Sodann sollst du eine kleine Anzahl davon nehmen und sie in den Zipfel deines Gewands einbinden.

Take a few of your hairs and tuck them into the folds of your robe.

4 Und von diesen sollst du nochmals einige nehmen und mitten ins Feuer werfen und sie so im Feuer verbrennen. Davon wird Feuer ausgehen über das ganze Haus Israel. Und sprich zum ganzen Hause Israel:

Then take a few of those hairs, throw them into the fire, and burn them up. [That will symbolize that] a fire will spread from Jerusalem [and destroy things] throughout Israel.

5 So spricht der Herr Jahwe: Dies ist Jerusalem, die ich mitten unter die Völker gestellt habe, und rings um sie her Länder.

This is what [I, ] Yahweh the Lord, say: ‘[drawing will represent] Jerusalem, [the city which] I have set in the center of the nations, with [other] countries around it.

6 Sie aber war widerspenstig gegen meine Rechte in frevelhafter Weise, mehr als die Heidenvölker, und gegen meine Satzungen mehr als die Länder, welche rings um sie her waren; denn meine Rechte verachteten sie und nach meinen Satzungen wandelten sie nicht.

But the wicked people of Jerusalem rebelled against [obeying] my commands, and [they show that] they are more wicked than the people of the surrounding countries. They rejected my laws and refused to obey my commands.’

7 Darum spricht so der Herr Jahwe: Weil ihr widerspenstig wart, mehr als die Heidenvölker rings um euch her, nach meinen Satzungen nicht wandeltet und meine Rechte nicht übtet und nicht einmal nach den Rechten der Völker rings um euch her gehandelt habt,

Therefore, this is what I, Yahweh the Lord, say: ‘You people of Jerusalem have been more rebellious than the people of the nations around you; you have not obeyed any of my laws [DOU]. You have not even obeyed the laws of the nations around you!’

8 darum spricht der Herr Jahwe also: Fürwahr, nun will ich auch an dich und will in deiner Mitte Gerichte vollstrecken vor den Augen der Heiden.

Therefore, this is [I, ] Yahweh the Lord, say: ‘I am opposed to [you people of] Jerusalem. I will punish you, and the [people of other] nations will see it happen.

9 Und ich will wegen aller deiner Greuel an dir thun, was ich noch nie gethan habe und dergleichen ich nie wieder thun werde.

Because of all your detestable [idols], I will punish [people of Jerusalem] like I have never done before and will never do again.

10 Darum sollen Väter in deiner Mitte die eigenen Kinder verzehren, und Kinder sollen ihre Väter verzehren, und ich will Gerichte an dir vollstrecken und deinen gesamten Überrest in alle Winde zerstreuen.

As a result, parents among you will eat their children, and children will eat their [because there will be nothing else to eat]. I will punish you [severely], and I will cause those who will still be alive to be scattered in all directions [IDM].’

11 Darum, so wahr ich lebe, ist der Spruch des Herrn Jahwe: Wahrlich, weil du mein Heiligtum verunreinigt hast mit allen deinen Scheusalen und mit allen deinen Greueln, so will ich nun auch dreinschlagen und will nicht mitleidig auf euch blicken und will auch meinerseits keine Schonung üben.

Therefore, I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that as surely as I am alive, because you have polluted my temple with all your disgusting [statues of idols] and by the other detestable things that you do, I will no longer bless you. I will not pity [you] or act mercifully [toward you].

12 Ein Drittel von dir soll an der Pest sterben und durch Hunger aufgerieben werden in deiner Mitte, und das zweite Drittel soll durch das Schwert fallen rings um dich her, und das letzte Drittel will ich in alle Winde zerstreuen und hinter ihnen her will ich das Schwert zücken.

One-third of your people will die inside the city because of the plagues [they will experience] or by (famine/lack of food). One-third of your people will be killed [your enemies’] swords outside the city. And one-third I will cause to be scattered in all directions; [your enemies] will [still] pursue you and kill you with their swords.

13 Und so soll sich mein Zorn erschöpfen, und meinen Grimm will ich an ihnen stillen und will mich letzen, daß sie es merken sollen, daß ich, Jahwe, es geredet habe in meinem Eifer, indem ich meinen Grimm an ihnen erschöpfe.

Then I will no longer be angry with you; I will stop punishing [MTY] you after I have gotten revenge on you. And when I stop punishing you, you will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken to you because I have been very strongly concerned [what you have done].

14 Und ich will dich zur Wüstenei und zum Gegenstande der Verhöhnung machen unter den Völkern, die dich rings umgeben, ja vor den Augen eines jeden, der vorüberzieht.

I will cause your [city] to be a ruins, with the result that [people of other] nations that are around you will pass by and see it and sneer at you.

15 Und so wirst du ein Gegenstand der Verhöhnung und Lästerung, eine Warnung und ein Gegenstand des Entsetzens sein für die Völker, die dich rings umgeben, wenn ich an dir Gerichte vollstrecke in Zorn und Grimm und mit grimmigen Züchtigungen. Ich, Jahwe, habe es geredet.

They will make fun of you and taunt you. When I severely punish you because of my being very angry [DOU] with you, they will be horrified and they will be warned. [That will surely happen because] I, Yahweh, have said it.

16 Wenn ich die schlimmen Pfeile des Hungers auf sie absende, die zum Verderben sind, die ich senden werde, um euch zu verderben, und ich dann immer aufs neue Hunger über euch verhängen werde, dann werde ich euch den Stab des Brots zerbrechen

When I cut off your food supply and cause there to be more famine, [it will be as though] [MET] I am shooting at you with my arrows that will destroy you.

17 und werde wider euch Hunger und wilde Tiere senden, daß sie euch kinderlos machen, und Pest und Blutvergießen soll bei dir hindurchziehen, und das Schwert will ich über dich bringen. Ich, Jahwe, habe es geredet.

I will cause you to experience a famine, and I will send wild beasts to attack you and your children, and [all] your children will be killed. You will experience plagues and wars, and I will cause [your enemies] to attack you with their swords. [That will surely happen because] I, Yahweh, have said it.”
