Hesekiel 4

1 Du aber, Menschensohn, hole dir einen Ziegelstein, lege ihn vor dich hin und ritze darauf eine Stadt ein, nämlich Jerusalem.

“Son of man, you are to take a brick, put in front of you, and draw a picture of the city of Jerusalem on it.

2 Und errichte einen Belagerungswall wider sie und baue einen Belagerungsturm wider sie; schütte einen Damm wider sie auf, stelle Belagerungsheere wider sie auf und setze ringsum Sturmböcke wider sie an.

Show that it's under siege: establish a siege perimeter all around it, build a siege ramp against it, set up the enemy camps beside it, and put battering rams on all sides around it.

3 Und hole dir eine eiserne Pfanne und stelle sie als eiserne Wand zwischen dich und die Stadt und richte dein Angesicht gegen diese, daß sie der Belagerung unterworfen sei, und du sie belagerest. Ein Zeichen sei dies für das Haus Israel!

Put an iron plate between yourself and the city so it's like an iron wall. Face the city and demonstrate that it's under siege, and that you are the one attacking it. This is a symbolic warning to the people of Israel.

4 Du aber lege dich auf deine Seite und nimm die Verschuldung des Hauses Israel auf dich; die Zahl der Tage, die du auf ihr liegst, sollst du ihre Verschuldung tragen.

Then lie on your left side and take the Israelites' sins on yourself. You will carry their sins for the number of days you lie on your side.

5 Und ich wandle dir die Jahre ihrer Verschuldung in eine entsprechende Zahl von Tagen - 390 Tage -, und so sollst du die Verschuldung des Hauses Israel tragen.

I will make you stay there for 390 days, representing the number of years of their sins. You will bear the sins of the Israelites.

6 Und wenn du mit ihnen zu Ende bist, so lege dich zum zweiten Mal auf deine rechte Seite und trage die Verschuldung des Hauses Juda, 40 Tage lang: für jedes Jahr einen Tag ansetzend berechne ich sie dir.

Once you have finished doing this for these days, then you are to lie down again, but this time on your right side, and carry the sins of the people of Judah. I will make you stay there for 40 days, one day for every year.

7 Und du sollst dein Angesicht und deinen entblößten Arm gegen die Belagerung Jerusalems hinrichten und gegen es weissagen.

Keep your face towards the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared, and prophesy against it.

8 Und zwar werde ich dir Stricke anlegen, daß du dich nicht von einer Seite auf die andere umwenden kannst, bis du mit den Tagen deiner Einschließung zu Ende bist.

Be ready, because now I'm going to tie you up with ropes so you can't move from side to side until the days of your siege are over.

9 Du aber hole dir Weizen und Gerste und Bohnen und Linsen und Hirse und Spelt, thue sie in ein Gefäß und bereite dir Brot daraus; die ganze Zeit hindurch, während welcher du auf deiner Seite liegst, sollst du das essen.

Get some wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt, and mix them together in a storage jar. Use them to make bread for yourself. This is what you are to eat for the 390 days that you lie on your side.

10 Und zwar sollst du deine Speise abgewogen verzehren, täglich zwanzig Sekel; von Zeit zu Zeit sollst du davon zehren.

You are allowed to eat twenty shekels weight of food each day, and you are to eat it at regular times.

11 Und Wasser sollst du abgemessen trinken, jedesmal ein Sechstel Hin; von Zeit zu Zeit sollst du welches trinken.

Measure out a sixth of a hin of water to drink, and you are to drink it at regular times.

12 Und zwar sollst du es in Gestalt von Gerstenkuchen verzehren; diese aber sollst du vor ihren Augen auf Ballen von Menschenkot backen.

You are to eat the bread as you would a barley loaf. You are to bake it over a fire burning dried human excrement as everyone watches.”

13 Und Jahwe sprach: Ebenso werden die Israeliten ihr Brot unrein verzehren unter den Völkern, unter die ich sie verstoßen werde.

Then the Lord said, “This is the way the Israelites will eat their unclean bread among the nations where I'll exile them.”

14 Da sprach ich: Ach Herr Jahwe! Fürwahr, ich bin noch nie verunreinigt gewesen und Gefallenes oder von Raubtieren Zerrissenes habe ich nie gegessen von Jugend auf bis jetzt, und nie kam in meinen Mund verdorbenes Fleisch!

“Please no, Lord God!” I answered. “I have never made myself unclean. I haven't eaten anything found dead or killed by wild animals from the time I was young until now. I've never put unclean meat in my mouth.”

15 Da sprach er zu mir: Wohlan, ich gestatte dir Rindermist statt Menschenkotes, daß du darauf dein Brot bereitest.

“All right,” he said. “I'll let you use cow manure instead of human excrement You can bake your bread over a fire using that.”

16 Und er sprach zu mir: Menschensohn, fürwahr, ich will den Stab des Brots in Jerusalem zerbrechen, und sie sollen ihr Brot abgewogen und mit Angst essen und das Wasser abgemessen und mit Entsetzen trinken,

Then he went on, “Son of man, watch! I am going to put a stop to Jerusalem's food supply. Worried sick, they will eat bread rationed by weight. Despairing at what's happening, they will drink water measured in small amounts.

17 damit sie an Brot und Wasser Mangel leiden, und sich einer mit dem andern entsetzen und infolge ihrer Verschuldung dahinschwinden.

Running out of food and water, they will be horrified as they look at one another wasting away because of their sins.”
