Ester 5

1 Am dritten Tag aber legte Esther königliche Kleidung an und stellte sich in den inneren Vorhof des königlichen Palastes, gegenüber dem königlichen Palaste, während der König im königlichen Palaste gegenüber dem Eingange zum Palast auf seinem königlichen Throne saß.

And it came to pass, on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the house of the king, over against the house of the king, —and, the king, was sitting upon his royal seat, in the royal house, over against the opening of the house.

2 Als nun der König die Königin Esther im Vorhofe stehen sah, fand sie Gnade vor ihm, und der König streckte Esther das goldene Scepter entgegen, das er in der Hand hielt. Da trat Esther heran und berührte die Spitze des Scepters.

And it came to pass, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his eyes, —and the king held out to Esther, the golden sceptre which was in his hand, so Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

3 Und der König sprach zu ihr: Was hast du, Königin Esther, und was ist dein Begehren? Gälte es auch die Hälfte des Königreichs, so soll es dir bewilligt werden!

Then said the king unto her, What aileth thee, Queen Esther? and what is thy request? Unto the half of the kingdom, shall it be given thee.

4 Da sprach Esther: Wenn es dem Könige recht ist, so möge der König heute samt Haman zu dem Gastmahle kommen, das ich ihm bereitet habe.

Then said Esther, If, unto the king, it seem good, let the king with Haman come in this day, unto the banquet which I have prepared for him.

5 Da gebot der König: Holt eilends den Haman, damit wir den Wunsch Esthers erfüllen! Als nun der König samt Haman bei dem Mahle, das Esther bereitet hatte, erschienen war,

And the king said, Hasten ye Haman, to perform the word of Esther. So the king with Haman came in, unto the banquet which Esther had prepared,

6 da sprach der König zu Esther beim Weingelage: Was ist deine Bitte, das sie dir gewährt werde? Und was ist dein Begehren? Gälte es auch die Hälfte des Königreichs, so soll es erfüllt werden!

Then said the king unto Esther, during the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, that it may be granted thee?—and what is thy request—unto the half of the kingdom—that it may be performed?

7 Da antwortete Esther und sprach: Meine Bitte und mein Begehren ist:

Then answered Esther, and said, —As touching my petition and my request,

8 wenn ich Gnade gefunden habe in den Augen des Königs, und wenn es dem Könige gefällt, meine Bitte zu gewähren und mein Begehren zu erfüllen, so möge der König samt Haman zu dem Gastmahle kommen, das ich für sie bereiten werde; morgen will ich dann nach dem Wunsche des Königs thun.

If I have found favour in the eyes of the king, and if, unto the king, it seem good, to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king with Haman come in unto the banquet which I will prepare for them, and, to-morrow, I will do according to the word of the king.

9 Und Haman ging an jenem Tag fröhlich und guten Muts von dannen. Als aber Haman den Mardachai im Thore des Königs erblickte, wie er weder aufstand, noch Furcht vor ihm zeigte, da ward Haman voller Zorn über Mardachai;

Then went Haman forth on that day, joyful and of a merry heart, —but, when Haman saw Mordecai in the gate of the king, that he rose not up nor moved because of him, then was Haman filled with wrath against Mordecai.

10 doch hielt Haman an sich. Als er aber nach Hause gekommen war, sandte er hin, und ließ seine Freunde und seine Gemahlin Seres holen.

Nevertheless Haman restrained himself, and came into his own house, —and sent and brought in his friends, and Zeresh his wife;

11 Denen erzählte Haman von seinem gewaltigen Reichtum und der Menge seiner Söhne und von alledem, wie ihn der König hochgeehrt und wie er ihn ausgezeichnet habe vor den Fürsten und den Dienern des Königs.

and Haman recounted unto them the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, —and all the things wherein the king had promoted him to power, and how he had advanced him, above the rulers and the servants of the king.

12 Und Haman sprach: Ja, die Königin Esther hat niemand mit dem Könige zu dem Gastmahle kommen lassen, das sie bereitet hatte, als nur mich; und auch für morgen bin ich mit dem Könige von ihr eingeladen.

And Haman said, Moreover Esther the queen did bring in no one with the king into the banquet which she had prepared, saving myself, —yea moreover, even for to-morrow, I, am invited unto her, with the king.

13 Aber all dies genügt mir nicht, solange ich noch den Juden Mardachai am Thore des Königs sitzen sehe.

Yet, all this, sufficeth me not, —so long as, I, see Mordecai the Jew, sitting in the gate of the king.

14 Da antwortete ihm seine Gemahlin Seres und alle seine Freunde: Man richte einen Galgen her, fünfzig Ellen hoch, und morgen früh sprich dann zum Könige, daß man Mardachai daran hängen solle. Alsdann gehe fröhlich mit dem Könige zum Gastmahl! Dieser Vorschlag gefiel Haman wohl, und er ließ den Galgen herrichten.

Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let them make ready a gallows, of the height of fifty cubits, and, in the morning, speak thou unto the king, that they hang Mordecai thereon, then go with the king into the banquet joyfully. And the thing seemed good before Haman, and he made ready the gallows.
