5 Mose 9

1 Höre, Israel! Du ziehst jetzt über den Jordan, um Herr zu werden über Völker, die größer und mächtiger sind, als du, über Städte, die groß und himmelhoch befestigt sind,

Here thou, Israel; thou schalt passe Jordan to dai, that thou welde mooste naciouns, and strengere than thou; grete citees, and wallid `til to heuene;

2 über ein großes und hochgewachsenes Volk, die Enakiter, die du ja selber kennst und von denen du selbst hast sagen hören: Wer vermag den Enakitern standzuhalten?

a greet puple, and hiy; the sones of Enachym, whiche thi silf `siest, and herdist, whiche no man may ayenstonde in the contrarie part.

3 So wisse denn jetzt, daß es Jahwe, dein Gott, ist, der als verzehrendes Feuer dir voranzieht; er wird sie vertilgen und er wird sie vor dir niederwerfen, so daß du sie rasch aus ihrem Besitze vertreiben und vernichten kannst, wie dir Jahwe verheißen hat.

Therfor thou schalt wite to dai, that thi Lord God hym silf schal passe bifor thee; he is a fier deuourynge and wastynge, that schal al to breke hem, and schal do awei, and destrie bifor thi face swiftli, as he spak to thee.

4 Denke nicht etwa, wenn Jahwe, dein Gott, sie vor dir herjagt: Um meiner Rechtbeschaffenheit willen hat mich Jahwe in den Besitz dieses Landes gelangen lassen! - während Jahwe diese Völker vielmehr um ihrer Frevel willen vor dir vertreibt.

Seie thou not in thin herte, whanne thi Lord God hath do hem awey in thi siyt, For my riytfulnesse the Lord brouyte me yn, that Y schulde welde this lond; sithen these naciouns ben doon awey for her wickidnessis.

5 Nicht um deiner Rechtbeschaffenheit und um deines lauteren Herzens willen gelangst du in den Besitz ihres Landes, sondern Jahwe, dein Gott, vertreibt diese Völker vor dir um ihrer Frevel willen und um die eidliche Zusage zu erfüllen, die Jahwe deinen Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob gegeben hat.

For not for thi riytfulnessis, and equyte of thin herte thou schalt entre that thou welde the lond `of hem; but for thei diden wickidli, thei weren doon awey, whanne thou entridist, and that the Lord schulde fille his word which he bihiyte vndur an ooth to thi fadris, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

6 So erkenne nun, daß dir Jahwe, dein Gott, dieses schöne Land nicht um deiner Rechtbeschaffenheit willen zum Besitze verleiht, denn du bist ein halsstarriges Volk.

Therfor wite thou that not for thi riytfulnesses thi Lord God yaf to thee this beste lond in to possessioun, sithen thou art a puple of hardeste nol.

7 Denke daran und vergiß es nicht, wie du Jahwe, deinen Gott, in der Steppe erzürntest! Von dem Tage an, wo du aus Ägypten wegzogst, bis zu eurer Ankunft an diesem Orte zeigtet ihr euch widerspenstig gegen Jahwe.

Haue thou mynde, and foryete not, hou in the wildirnesse thou terridist thi Lord God to greet wraththe; fro that dai in which thou yedist out of Egipt `til to this place, thou striuedist euere ayens the Lord.

8 Am Horeb erzürntet ihr Jahwe, und Jahwe wurde über euch so aufgebracht, daß er euch vertilgen wollte.

For whi also in Oreb thou terridist hym, and he was wrooth, and wolde do thee awei, whanne Y stiede in to the hil,

9 Ich war auf den Berg gestiegen, um die steinernen Tafeln, die Tafeln des Bundes, den Jahwe mit euch geschlossen hatte, in Empfang zu nehmen, und verweilte vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte auf dem Berg, ohne Brot zu essen und Wasser zu trinken.

that Y schulde take two tablis of stoon, the tablis of couenaunt which the Lord made with you, and Y continuede in the hil fourti daies and nyytis, and Y eet not breed, and Y drank not watir.

10 Jahwe übergab mir die beiden steinernen Tafeln, die vom Finger Gottes beschrieben waren und alle die Worte enthielten, die Jahwe am Versammlungstag auf dem Berg aus dem Feuer mit euch geredet hatte.

And the Lord yaf to me, twey tablis of stoon, euer either wrytun with Goddis fyngur, and conteynynge alle the wordis whiche he spak to you in the hil, fro the myddis of the fier, whanne the cumpany of puple was gaderid togidere.

11 Nach Verlauf von vierzig Tagen und vierzig Nächten übergab mir Jahwe die beiden steinernen Tafeln, die Tafeln mit dem Gesetz.

And whanne fourti daies and so many nyytis hadden passid, the Lord yaf to me twei tablis of stoon, tablis of boond of pees;

12 Dann aber sprach Jahwe zu mir: Auf! steige eilends von hier hinab; denn dein Volk, das du aus Ägypten weggeführt hast, handelt verderbt. Gar schnell sind sie von dem Weg abgewichen, den ich ihnen vorgeschrieben habe; sie haben sich ein Gußbild verfertigt.

and he seide to me, Rise thou, and go doun for hennys soone, for thi puple, which thou leddist out of Egipt, han forsake swiftli the weie which thou schewidist to hem, and thei han maad to hem a yotun calf.

13 Und Jahwe sprach zu mir: Ich sehe nun wohl, daß dieses Volk ein halsstarriges Volk ist.

And eft the Lord seide to me, `Y se that this puple is of hard nol;

14 So laß mich nun, daß ich sie vertilge und ihren Namen unter dem Himmel auslösche und dich zum Stammvater eines Volkes mache, das stärker und größer ist, als dieses.

suffre thou me, that I alto breke hym, and do awey the name `of hym fro vndur heuene; and Y schal ordeyne thee on a folk which is grettere and strongere than this folk.

15 Da machte ich mich auf den Rückweg und stieg vom Berge, der in hellem Feuer stand, hinab, mit den beiden Gesetztafeln in meinen beiden Händen.

And whanne Y cam doun fro the hil brennynge, and helde with euer either hond twei tablis of boond of pees, and Y seiy,

16 Da sah ich denn wahrhaftig: Ihr hattet euch gegen Jahwe, euren Gott, versündigt, hattet euch ein gegossenes Kalb verfertigt und wart so gar schnell von dem Weg abgewichen, den Jahwe euch vorgeschrieben hatte.

that ye hadde synned to youre Lord God, and hadden maad to you a yotun calf, and hadden forsake swiftli the weie of God which he schewide to you,

17 Da faßte ich die beiden Tafeln, schleuderte sie weg aus meinen beiden Händen und zerschmetterte sie vor euren Augen.

Y castide doun the tablis fro myn hondis, and brak tho tablis in youre siyt.

18 Dann aber warf ich mich, wie das erste Mal, vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte, ohne Brot zu essen und Wasser zu trinken, vor Jahwe nieder um aller eurer Sünde willen, die ihr begangen hattet, indem ihr thatet, was Jahwe mißfiel, so daß es ihn erzürnen mußte.

And Y felde doun bifor the Lord as `biforto, in fourti daies and fourti nyytis, and Y eet not breed, `and drank not watir, for alle youre synnes whiche ye diden ayens the Lord, and terriden hym to `greet wraththe;

19 Denn mir war bange vor dem Zorn und Grimm, den Jahwe gegen euch hegte, daß er euch vertilgen wollte. Und Jahwe erhörte mich auch diesmal.

for Y dredde the indignacioun and yre of hym, by which he was stirid ayens you, and wolde do you awey. And the Lord herde me also in this tyme.

20 Auch über Aaron war Jahwe so sehr erzürnt, daß er ihn vertilgen wollte, und ich flehte damals auch für Aaron.

Also the Lord was wrooth greteli ayens Aaron, and wolde alto breke hym, and Y preiede in lijk maner for hym.

21 Das Denkmal eurer Sünde aber, das ihr verfertigt hattet, das Kalb, nahm ich, verbrannte es und zerstieß und zermalmte es vollständig, bis es zu feinem Staube wurde; diesen Staub warf ich in den Bach, der vom Berge herabfließt.

`Forsothe Y took youre synne which ye maden, that is, the calf, and brente it in fier, and Y alto brak in gobetis, and droof outerli in to dust, and castide forth in to the stronde, that cam doun fro the hil.

22 Ferner erzürntet ihr Jahwe zu Tabera, zu Massa und bei den Lustgräbern.

Also in the brennyng, and in the temptacioun at the watris of ayenseiyng, and in the Sepulcris of Coueytise, ye terriden the Lord;

23 Auch als euch Jahwe von Kades-Barnea entsandte, indem er gebot: Zieht hinauf und nehmt das Land ein, das ich euch verliehen habe, zeigtet ihr euch widerspenstig gegen den Befehl Jahwes, eures Gottes, und wolltet ihm nicht vertrauen, noch auf seine Stimme hören.

and whanne Y sente you fro Cades Barne, and seide, `Stye ye, and welde the lond which Y yaf to you, and ye dispisiden the comaundement of youre Lord God, and ye bileueden not to him, nether ye wolden here his vois;

24 Widerspenstig habt ihr euch gegen Jahwe gezeigt, seitdem ich euch kenne.

but euere ye weren rebel, fro the day in which Y bigan to knowe you.

25 Als ich nun die vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte; die ich mich niederwarf, vor Jahwe lag, weil Jahwe gedroht hatte, euch vertilgen zu wollen,

And Y lay byfore the Lord fourti daies and fourti nyytis, in whiche Y bisouyte hym mekeli, that he schulde not `do awey you, as he manaasside.

26 da betete ich zu Jahwe und sprach: O Herr, Jahwe! Verdirb dein Volk und dein Eigentum nicht, das du durch deine große Macht erlöst, das du mit starker Hand auf Ägypten weggeführt hast!

And Y preiede, and seide, Lord God, distrye not thi puple, and thin eritage, which thou `ayen bouytist in thi greetnesse, which thou leddist out of Egipt in strong hond.

27 Denke an deine Knechte, an Abraham, Isaak und Jakob! Kehre dich nicht an die Halsstarrigkeit deines Volks, an seine Bosheit und seine Sünde,

Haue thou mynde of thi seruauntis, of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; biholde thou not the hardnesse of this puple, and the wickidnesse, and the synne therof,

28 damit man in dem Land, aus dem du uns weggeführt hast, nicht sagen könne: Weil Jahwe nicht imstande war, sie in das Land zu bringen, das er ihnen verheißen hatte, und weil er sie haßte, hat er sie weggeführt, um sie in der Steppe umkommen zu lassen!

lest perauenture the dwelleris of the lond, out of which thou leddist vs, seien, The Lord myyte not bryng hem in to the lond which he bihiyte to hem, and he hatide hem; therfor he ledde hem out that he schulde sle hem in wildirnesse;

29 Sie sind ja dein Volk und dein Eigentum, das du mit deiner großen Kraft und deinem ausgereckten Arm hinweggeführt hast.

and thei ben thi puple and thin eritage, which thou leddist out in thi greet strengthe, and in thin arm holdun forth.
