Daniel 1
1 Im dritten Jahre der Regierung Jojakims, des Königs von Juda, kam Nebukadnezar, der König von Babel, nach Jerusalem und belagerte es.

2 Und der Herr gab Jojakim, den König von Juda, und einen Teil der Geräte des Gotteshauses in seine Gewalt, und er verbrachte sie in das Land Sinear in den Tempel seines Gottes; die Geräte aber verbrachte er in die Schatzkammer seines Gottes.

3 Darauf befahl der König dem Obersten seiner Kämmerer, Aschpenaz, von den Israeliten und zwar aus der königlichen Familie und aus den Vornehmen
and to say [the] king to/for Ashpenaz chief eunuch his to/for to come (in): bring from son: descendant/people Israel and from seed: children [the] kingship and from [the] noble
4 Knaben herbei zubringen, die ganz ohne jeglichen körperlichen Fehler, von schönem Aussehen, in allem Wissen wohlbewandert, kenntnisreich und einsichtsvoll wären und die Fähigkeit besäßen, im Palaste des Königs zu dienen, und sie in der Schrift und Sprache der Chaldäer zu unterrichten.

5 Und der König wies ihnen ihre tägliche Ration von der königlichen Tafel und von dem Weine, den er zu trinken pflegte, an und befahl, sie drei Jahre zu erziehen, damit sie nach Ablauf derselben in den königlichen Dienst träten.

6 Unter ihnen befanden sich auch die Judäer Daniel, Hananja, Misael und Asarja;

7 der Oberkämmerer aber gab ihnen andere Namen: Daniel nannte er Beltsazar, Hananja Sadrach, Misael Mesach und Asarja Abed-Nego.
and to set: name to/for them ruler [the] eunuch name and to set: name to/for Daniel Belteshazzar and to/for Hananiah Shadrach and to/for Mishael Meshach and to/for Azariah Abednego Abednego
8 Daniel nahm sich jedoch fest vor, sich nicht durch den Genuß der königlichen Speise und des Weins, von dem der König trank, zu verunreinigen, und erbat sich von dem Oberkämmerer die Erlaubnis, sich nicht verunreinigen zu müssen.

9 Gott aber ließ Daniel bei dem Oberkämmerer Huld und Erbarmen finden;
and to give: give [the] God [obj] Daniel to/for kindness and to/for compassion to/for face of ruler [the] eunuch
10 doch sagte der Oberkämmerer zu Daniel: Ich hege nur die Befürchtung, daß mein Herr, der König, der euch die Speise und das Getränk angewiesen hat, euer Aussehen schmächtiger finden könnte, als das der anderen Knaben eures Alters, und daß dann durch eure Schuld mein Kopf beim Könige verwirkt ist!

11 Da sprach Daniel zum Obermundschenk, den der Oberkämmerer über Daniel, Hananja, Misael und Asarja gesetzt hatte:
and to say Daniel to(wards) [the] `steward` which to count ruler [the] eunuch upon Daniel Hananiah Mishael and Azariah
12 Versuche es einmal mit deinen Knechten zehn Tage, daß man uns nur Pflanzenkost zu essen und nur Wasser zu trinken gebe!
to test please [obj] servant/slave your day ten and to give: give to/for us from [the] vegetable and to eat and water and to drink
13 Dann möge unser Aussehen und das Aussehen der Knaben, die von der königlichen Speise essen, deiner Besichtigung unterliegen, und je nach dem du es finden wirst, magst du dann mit deinen Knechten verfahren!
and to see: see to/for face of your appearance our and appearance [the] youth [the] to eat [obj] choice [the] king and like/as as which to see: see to make: do with servant/slave your
14 Da gewährte er ihnen diese Bitte und versuchte es mit ihnen zehn Tage.
and to hear: hear to/for them to/for word: thing [the] this and to test them day ten
15 Nach Verlauf von zehn Tagen aber sahen sie besser und wohlbeleibter aus als alle die Knaben, die von der königlichen Speise zu essen pflegten.
and from end day ten to see: see appearance their pleasant and fat flesh from all [the] youth [the] to eat [obj] choice [the] king
16 Fortan ließ der Obermundschenk, was ihnen an Speise und Wein bestimmt war, hinwegtragen und gab ihnen Pflanzenkost.

17 Diesen vier Knaben verlieh Gott Wissen und Verständnis für jede Art Schrift und Wissenschaft; Daniel aber konnte auch alle Gesichte und Träume verstehen.
and [the] youth [the] these four their to give: give to/for them [the] God knowledge and be prudent in/on/with all scroll: book and wisdom and Daniel to understand in/on/with all vision and dream
18 Als nun die Zeit, nach welcher der König sie vorzustellen befohlen hatte, abgelaufen war, stellte sie der Oberkämmerer Nebukadnezar vor.

19 Als sich aber der König mit ihnen unterhielt, fand sich unter ihnen allen niemand wie Daniel, Hananja, Misael und Asarja; so traten sie in den königlichen Dienst,
and to speak: speak with them [the] king and not to find from all their like/as Daniel Hananiah Mishael and Azariah and to stand: stand to/for face: before [the] king
20 und in allen Fällen, wo es sich um Weisheit und Einsicht handelte, fand sie der König, so oft er sie befragte, allen Zauberern und Wahrsagern in seinem ganzen Reiche zehnfach überlegen.
and all word: thing wisdom understanding which to seek from them [the] king and to find them ten hand: times upon all [the] magician [the] enchanter which in/on/with all royalty his
21 Daniel aber erlebte noch das erste Jahr des Königs Cyrus.
and to be Daniel till year one to/for Cyrus [the] king
