Amos 6
1 Wehe über die Sorglosen auf dem Zion und die Sicheren auf dem Berge von Samaria, die den Adel des vornehmsten der Völker bilden, und denen das Reich Israel zuströmt!
Woe to them that set at nothing Sion, and that trust in the mountain of Samaria: they have gathered [the harvest of] the heads of the nations, and they have gone in themselves.
2 Seht nur hinüber nach Kalne und seht euch um, und weiter von da nach der großen Stadt Hamath und steigt nach Gath in Philistäa hinab: Seid ihr besser, als diese Königreiche, oder ist euer Gebiet größer, als ihr Gebiet?
O house of Israel, pass by all [of you], and see; and pass by thence to Ematrabba; and thence descend to Geth of the Philistines, the chief of all these kingdoms, [see] if their coasts are greater than your coasts.
3 Sie wähnen den bösen Tag fern und rücken die Herrschaft der Gewaltthat herbei.
You who are approaching the evil day, who are drawing near and adopting false sabbaths;
4 Sie liegen auf Lagern von Elfenbein und räkeln sich auf ihrem Diwan. Sie verzehren fette Lämmer, die von der Herde, und junge Rinder, die aus der Hürde kommen.
who sleep upon beds of ivory, and live delicately on their couches, and eat kids out of the flocks, and sucking calves out of the midst of the stalls;
5 Sie girren zur Harfe, bilden sich ein, wie David zu spielen.
who excel in the sound of musical instruments; they have regarded them as dwelling, not as fleeting [pleasures];
6 Sie trinken den Wein aus Sprengschalen und versalben das beste Öl - aber um den Schaden Josephs grämen sie sich nicht!
who drink strained wine, and anoint themselves with the best ointment; and have suffered nothing on occasion of the calamity of Joseph.
7 Darum sollen sie nun an der Spitze der Verbannten in die Verbannung ziehen, und das Gekreische der sich Räkelnden soll ein Ende haben!
Therefore now shall they depart into captivity from the dominion of princes, and the neighing of horses shall be cut off from Ephraim.
8 Der Herr Jahwe hat bei sich selbst geschworen, ist der Spruch Jahwes, des Gottes der Heerscharen: Ich verabscheue den Hochmut Jakobs, ich hasse seine Burgen und gebe preis die Stadt und was sie füllt.
For the Lord has sworn by himself, [saying], Because I abhor all the pride of Jacob, I do also hate his countries, and I will cut off [his] city with all who inhabit it.
9 Wenn dann zehn Leute in einem Hause übrig bleiben, so sollen sie sterben;
And it shall come to pass, if there be ten men left in one house, that they shall die.
10 und wenn ihn dann sein Oheim und Bestatter aufnimmt, um den Leichnam aus dem Hause zu schaffen, und zu dem, der im innersten Winkel des Hauses ist, sagt: Ist noch jemand bei dir? und dieser antwortet: Nein! so wird er sagen: Still! Denn der Name Jahwes darf nicht erwähnt werden.
But a remnant shall be left behind, and their relations shall take them, and shall strenuously endeavor to carry forth their bones from the house: and one shall say to the heads of the house, Is there yet [any one] else with you? And he shall say, No [one] else. And [the other] shall say, Be silent, that you name not the name of the Lord.
11 Denn fürwahr, Jahwe wird Befehl geben und er wird die großen Häuser in Trümmer schlagen und die kleinen Häuser in Stücke.
For, behold, the Lord commands, and he will strike the great house with breaches, and the little house with rents.
12 Laufen etwa Rosse über Klippen, oder kann man mit Rindern das Meer pflügen, da ihr das Recht in Gift verwandelt habt und die Früchte der Gerechtigkeit in Wermut -
Will horses run upon rocks? will they refrain from neighing at mares? for you have turned judgment into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness:
13 indem ihr eure Freude an einem Trugbild habt, indem ihr denkt: Aus eigner Kraft sind wir eine Macht geworden!
you who rejoice at vanity, who say, Have we not possessed horns by our own strength?
14 Denn fürwahr, ich lasse wieder euch, ihr Israeliten, ist der Spruch Jahwes, des Gottes der Heerscharen, ein Volk auftreten, das soll euch bedrängen von da, wo es nach Hamath hineingeht, bis zum Steppenbach.
For behold, O house of Israel, I will raise up against you a nation, says the Lord of hosts; and they shall afflict you so that you shall not enter into Aemath, and as it were [from] the river of the wilderness.
