Apostelgeschichte 4

1 Da sie aber zum Volke in solcher Weise redeten, machten sich die Priester heran und der Kommandant des Tempels und die Sadducäer,

As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came to them,

2 im Aerger darüber, daß sie das Volk belehrten, und an Jesus die Auferstehung von den Toten verkündeten,

being upset because they taught the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

3 und legten Hand an sie und setzten sie in Gewahrsam auf morgen. Denn es war schon Abend.

They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening.

4 Viele aber von denen, die das Wort hörten, wurden gläubig, und es belief sich die Zahl auf fünftausend Mann.

But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.

5 Es geschah aber, daß am folgenden Tage sich ihre Oberen, Aeltesten und Schriftgelehrten in Jerusalem versammelten,

It happened in the morning, that their rulers, elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem.

6 (ebenso Annas der Hohepriester, und Kaiphas, und Johannes und Alexander, und wer vom hohenpriesterlichen Stamm da war),

Annas the high priest was there, with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and as many as were relatives of the high priest.

7 und sie ließen sie vorführen und forschten: durch welche Kraft oder durch welchen Namen habt ihr das gethan?

When they had stood them in the middle of them, they inquired, "By what power, or in what name, have you done this?"

8 Hierauf ward Petrus voll heiligen Geistes, und sagte zu ihnen: Ihr Obere des Volks und Aelteste,

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people, and elders,

9 wenn wir heute uns zu verantworten haben wegen der Wohlthat, an einem gebrechlichen Menschen, durch wen der gerettet ward,

if we are examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,

10 so möge euch allen und dem ganzen Volke Israel kund sein, daß in dem Namen Jesus Christus', des Nazoräers, den ihr gekreuzigt habt, den Gott von den Toten auferweckt hat, daß darin dieser gesund vor euch steht.

be it known to you all, and to all the children of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole.

11 Dieser ist der Stein, der von euch den Bauleuten verachtet ward, der zum Eckstein geworden ist.

This one is the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.

12 Und es ist in keinem andern Heil, gibt es doch auch keinen andern Namen unter dem Himmel, der den Menschen gegeben wäre, dadurch wir gerettet werden sollen.

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among people by which we must be saved."

13 Da sie aber den Freimut des Petrus und Johannes sahen, und erfahren hatten, daß es ungelehrte und ungebildete Leute seien, wunderten sich sich. Sie erkannten sie als Genossen Jesus',

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they were amazed. They recognized that they had been with Jesus.

14 und zugleich sahen sie den geheilten Menschen bei ihnen stehen, da wußten sie nichts zu entgegnen.

Seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

15 Sie ließen sie aber aus dem Synedrium hinausführen, und berieten mit einander

But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

16 also: was sollen wir mit diesen Leuten machen? Denn daß ein deutliches Zeichen durch sie geschehen, ist allen Einwohnern von Jerusalem offenbar und können wir nicht leugnen.

saying, "What should we do with these men? Because indeed a notable miracle has been done through them, as can be plainly seen by all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.

17 Aber damit es sich nicht weiter verbreite im Volk, so wollen wir sie bedrohen, nichts mehr auf diesen Namen zu irgend jemand zu reden.

But so this does not spread any further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they do not speak to anyone in this name."

18 Und sie riefen sie und befahlen ihnen durchaus nichts verlauten zu lassen noch zu lehren auf den Namen Jesus'.

They called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

19 Petrus und Johannes aber antworteten ihnen also: ob es recht ist vor Gott, auf euch mehr zu hören als auf Gott, das urteilt selbst:

But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves,

20 wir können ja nicht unterlassen davon zu reden, was wir gesehen und gehört haben.

for we cannot help telling the things which we saw and heard."

21 Jene aber entließen sie unter Drohungen, denn sie fanden keinen Weg, sie zu strafen, dem Volk gegenüber, weil alles Gott pries über dem Geschehenen.

When they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for everyone glorified God for that which was done.

22 Denn der Mensch war über vierzig Jahre alt, an welchem dieses Zeichen der Heilung geschehen war.

For the man on whom this miracle of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

23 Nachdem sie aber freigelassen waren, giengen sie zu den Ihrigen und berichteten, was die Hohenpriester und die Aeltesten zu ihnen gesagt hatten.

Being let go, they came to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.

24 Als diese es vernahmen, erhoben sie einmütig ihre Stimme zu Gott und sprachen: Herr, der du hast den Himmel gemacht und die Erde, und das Meer, und alles was darinnen ist,

When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, "Lord, you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them.

25 der du durch heiligen Geist im Munde unseres Vaters, deines Knechtes David gesprochen hast: Was tobten die Nationen und sannen die Völker Eitles?

You said through the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David your servant: 'Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain?

26 Die Könige der Erde sind erschienen und die Herrscher haben sich versammelt, wider den Herrn und wider seinen Christus.

The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take council together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.'

27 Sie haben sich versammelt in Wirklichkeit in dieser Stadt wider deinen heiligen Knecht Jesus, den du gesalbt, Herodes und Pontius Pilatus mit den Heiden und den Völkern Israels,

"For truly, in this city against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the non-Jews and the people of Israel, were gathered together

28 zu thun, was deine Hand und dein Rat voraus bestimmt hatte.

to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen.

29 Und nun, Herr, achte du auf ihre Drohungen, und verleihe deinen Knechten, mit allem Freimut dein Wort zu reden,

Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness,

30 indem du deine Hand ausstreckst zur Heilung, und daß Zeichen und Wunder geschehen durch den Namen deines heiligen Knechtes Jesus.

while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus."

31 Und als sie gebetet, erbebte der Ort wo sie versammelt waren und sie wurden alle erfüllt vom heiligen Geist, und redeten das Wort Gottes frei heraus.

When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

32 Die Menge der gläubig gewordenen aber war ein Herz und eine Seele, und keiner nannte ein Stück von seiner Habe sein eigen, sondern sie hatten alles gemein.

And the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul. Not one of them claimed that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.

33 Und mit großer Kraft gaben die Apostel das Zeugnis von der Auferstehung des Herrn Jesus Christus, und große Gunst fiel ihnen allen zu.

With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all.

34 Es gab auch keine Bedürftigen mehr unter ihnen; die Besitzer von Grundstücken oder Häusern waren, verkauften es, brachten den Erlös des Verkauften,

For neither was there among them any who lacked, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold,

35 und legten ihn den Aposteln zu Füßen; dann wurde es verteilt an jedermann je nach eines Bedürfnis.

and put them at the apostles' feet, and distribution was made to each, according as anyone had need.

36 Joseph aber, der von den Aposteln den Namen Barnabas erhalten, was übersetzt heißt: Sohn des Trostes, ein Levite, Cyprier nach der Herkunft,

Joseph, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas (which is translated, Son of Encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus by birth,

37 verkaufte einen Acker den er besaß, brachte das Geld und legte es den Aposteln zu Füßen.

having a field, sold it, and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet.
