Apostelgeschichte 26

1 Agrippa aber sagte zu Paulus: es ist dir gestattet, für dich zu reden. Hierauf streckte Paulus die Hand aus und führte seine Sache also:

So Agrippa said to Paul, “You may speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense.

2 Ich schätze mich glücklich, König Agrippa, wegen all der Anklagen, welche die Juden gegen mich erheben, mich heute vor dir verteidigen zu dürfen,

“I regard myself as happy, King Agrippa, to make my case before you today against all the accusations of the Jews;

3 da du ein vorzüglicher Kenner der jüdischen Sitten und Streitlehren bist; darum bitte ich mich geduldig anzuhören.

especially, because you are an expert in all the Jewish customs and questions. So I ask you to hear me patiently.

4 Meinen Wandel von Jugend auf, wie er von Anfang an war, unter meinem Volke und in Jerusalem, kennen alle Juden,

Truly, all the Jews know how I lived from my youth in my own nation and at Jerusalem.

5 da sie von früher her von mir wissen, wenn sie Zeugnis geben wollen, wie ich nach der strengsten Sekte unserer Religion lebte als Pharisäer.

They knew me from the beginning and they should admit that I lived as a Pharisee, the strictest party of our religion.

6 und jetzt stehe ich vor Gericht wegen der Hoffnung auf die Verheißung,

Now I stand here to be judged because of my certain hope in the promise made by God to our fathers.

7 die von Gott an unsere Väter kam, wozu unsere Zwölf Stämme in anhaltendem Gottesdienst bei Nacht und Tag zu gelangen hoffen; um dieser Hoffnung willen, mein Fürst, werde ich von Juden verklagt.

For this is the promise that our twelve tribes sought to receive as they earnestly worshiped God night and day. It is for this certain hope, King Agrippa, that the Jews accuse me.

8 Wie soll es bei euch unglaublich sein, daß Gott Tote auferweckt?

Why should any of you think it is unbelievable that God raises the dead?

9 Nun hatte ich mir eingebildet, ich müßte den Namen Jesus des Nazoräers ernstlich bekämpfen;

Now indeed, I myself thought that I should do many things against the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

10 das habe ich auch gethan in Jerusalem, und habe viele von den Heiligen in Gefängnishaft gebracht, indem ich mir die Vollmacht von den Hohenpriestern verschaffte, und wenn sie hingerichtet wurden, habe ich meine Stimme dazugegeben;

I did these in Jerusalem. I locked up many of the saints in prison by the authority I received from the chief priests, and when they were killed, I cast my vote against them.

11 und überall in den Synagogen habe ich sie oftmals durch Strafen gezwungen zu lästern, und im Uebereifer des Wahnes habe ich sie verfolgt selbst bis in die auswärtigen Städte.

I punished them many times in all the synagogues and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was furiously enraged against them and I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

12 So zog ich auch mit Vollmacht und Gutheißung der Hohenpriester nach Damaskus.

While I was doing this, I went to Damascus with authority and orders from the chief priests;

13 Da sah ich, o König, mitten am Tage unterwegs vom Himmel her ein Licht, das die Sonne überstrahlte und mich und meine Begleiter umleuchtete;

and on the way there, at midday, King, I saw a light from heaven that was brighter than the sun and it shone around both me and the men who were traveling with me.

14 und da wir alle zu Boden stürzten, hörte ich eine Stimme auf Hebräisch zu mir sagen: Saul, Saul, was verfolgst du mich? es ist dir schwer wider den Stachel auszuschlagen.

When we all fell to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me that said in the Hebrew language, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick a goad.'

15 Ich aber sagte: wer bist du, Herr? der Herr aber sprach: ich bin Jesus, den du verfolgst.

Then I said, 'Who are you, Lord?' The Lord replied, 'I am Jesus whom you persecute.

16 Aber stehe auf, auf deine Füße, denn dazu bin ich dir erschienen, dich zu bereiten zum Diener und Zeugen davon wie du mich gesehen hast, und mich sehen sollst,

Now get up and stand on your feet; because for this purpose I appeared to you, to appoint you to be a servant and a witness concerning the things that you know about me now and the things that I will show to you later;

17 indem ich dich herausnehme aus dem Volke und aus den Heiden, zu denen ich dich entsende,

and I will rescue you from the people and from the Gentiles to whom I am sending you,

18 ihre Augen zu öffnen zur Bekehrung, sie zu bekehren von Finsternis zu Licht, und von der Macht des Satans zu Gott, daß sie empfangen Sündenvergebung und Anteil bei den Geheiligten durch den Glauben an mich.

to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive from God the forgiveness of sins and the inheritance that I give to them who are sanctified by faith in me.'

19 Da blieb ich denn, o König Agrippa, nicht unfolgsam gegen das himmlische Gesicht,

Therefore, King Agrippa, I did not disobey the heavenly vision;

20 sondern ich kündigte denen in Damaskus zuerst und denen in Jerusalem und im ganzen Land Judäa, und den Heiden an, Buße zu vollbringen.

but, to those in Damascus first, and then at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, I gave them the message that that they should repent and turn to God, doing deeds worthy of repentance.

21 Dieserhalb haben mich die Juden ergriffen im Tempel, und versucht mich zu töten.

For this cause the Jews arrested me in the temple and tried to kill me.

22 Da mir nun Gottes Beistand bis auf diesen Tag zu teil geworden, so stehe ich da und lege Zeugnis ab für Kleine sowohl als Große, und sage nichts, als was die Propheten von den zukünftigen Dingen geredet haben, wie auch Moses,

God has helped me until now, so I stand and testify to the common people and to the great ones about nothing more than what the prophets and Moses said would happen—

23 ob der Christus zu leiden bestimmt, ob er als Erstling aus der Auferstehung der Toten ein Licht verkünden soll dem Volke sowohl als auch den Heiden.

that Christ must suffer and that by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light to our own people and to the Gentiles.”

24 Da er sich auf diese Weise verteidigte, rief Festus laut: du bist wahnwitzig, Paulus; über dem vielen Studieren wird dir der Kopf verrückt.

As Paul completed his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are insane; your great learning makes you insane.”

25 Paulus aber erwiderte: ich bin nicht wahnwitzig, hochgeehrter Festus, sondern ich spreche Worte der Wahrheit aus und der Vernunft.

But Paul said, “I am not insane, most excellent Festus, but what I am declaring is true and rational.

26 Der König weiß ja wohl davon, weshalb ich auch mit allem Freimut mich an ihn wende; denn ich kann nicht glauben, daß ihm etwas von diesen Dingen unbekannt sei, sind sie doch nicht im Winkel geschehen.

For the king knows about these things; and so, I speak freely to him, for I am persuaded that none of this is hidden from him; for this has not been done in a corner.

27 Glaubst du, König Agrippa, den Propheten? Ich weiß, daß du glaubst.

Do you believe the prophets, King Agrippa? I know that you believe.”

28 Agrippa aber sagte zu Paulus: nächstens bringt du mich dazu, Christ zu werden.

Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me and make me a Christian?”

29 Paulus aber sagte: ich wünschte zu Gott, über kurz oder lang, nicht nur dich, sondern alle, die mich heute hören, als solche zu sehen, wie ich bin, ausgenommen diese Fesseln.

Paul said, “I pray to God, that whether in a short or long time, not you only, but also all that hear me today, would be like me, but without these prison chains.”

30 Und der König erhob sich, sowie der Statthalter und auch Bernike und ihre Gesellschaft,

Then the king stood up, and the governor, and Bernice also, and those who were sitting with them;

31 und sie zogen sich zurück und beredeten sich miteinander und urteilten: dieser Mensch thut nichts, was Tod oder Gefängnis verdient.

when they left the hall, they talked to one another and said, “This man does nothing worthy of death or of bonds.”

32 Agrippa aber sagte zu Festus: der Mensch hätte können frei gelassen werden, wenn er nicht den Kaiser angerufen hätte.

Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been freed if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
