Apostelgeschichte 1
1 In meiner ersten Erzählung, o Theophilus, habe ich davon gehandelt, was Jesus alles that und lehrte,
The first account which I drew up, Theophilus, dealt with all that Jesus did and taught from the very first,
2 von Anfang an bis zu dem Tage, da er erhoben ward, nachdem er den Aposteln Aufträge gegeben durch den heiligen Geist, welche er auserwählt hatte,
down to that day on which he was taken up to heaven, after he had, by the help of the Holy Spirit, given instructions to the apostles whom he had chosen.
3 welchen er sich auch lebendig erwies nach seinem Leiden durch viele Beweise, indem er sich sehen ließ vierzig Tage lang, und über das Reich Gottes Aufschluß gab.
With abundant proofs, he showed himself to them, still living, after his death; appearing to them from time to time during forty days, and speaking of all that related to the kingdom of God.
4 Da er nun so mit ihnen zusammen war, befahl er ihnen sich nicht von Jerusalem zu entfernen, sondern abzuwarten die Verheißung des Vaters, die ihr von mir gehört habt;
And once, when he had gathered them together, he charged them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the fulfilment of the Father’s promise – ‘that promise,’ he said, ‘of which you have heard me speak;
5 denn Johannes taufte mit Wasser, ihr aber sollt in heiligem Geiste getauft werden, in wenigen Tagen von jetzt ab.
for, while John baptized with water, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit before many days have passed.’
6 Da fragten ihn die Versammelten: Herr, richtest du in dieser Zeit das Reich wieder auf für Israel?
So, when the apostles had met together, they asked Jesus this question – ‘Master, is this the time when you intend to re-establish the kingdom for Israel?’
7 Er sprach zu ihnen: es ist nicht eure Sache, Zeiten und Fristen zu kennen, die der Vater bestimmt hat in seiner Vollmacht;
His answer was, ‘It is not for you to know times or hours, for the Father has reserved these for his own decision;
8 aber ihr werdet Kraft empfangen, wenn der heilige Geist auf euch kommt, und werdet meine Zeugen sein in Jerusalem, und in ganz Judäa und Samaria, und bis ans Ende der Erde.
but you will receive power, when the Holy Spirit will have descended on you, and will be witnesses for me not only in Jerusalem, but throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’
9 Und als er dies gesagt, ward er unter ihrem Zuschauen in die Höhe gehoben, und eine Wolke nahm ihn auf von ihren Augen weg.
No sooner had Jesus said this than he was caught up before their eyes, and a cloud received him from their sight.
10 Und wie sie ihre Augen auf den Himmel hefteten, während er dahin gieng, siehe, da standen bei ihnen zwei Männer in weißen Kleidern,
While they were still gazing up into the heavens, as he went, suddenly two men, clothed in white, stood beside them,
11 dieselben sprachen: ihr Galiläische Männer, was steht ihr und blickt gen Himmel? Dieser Jesus, der von euch weg zum Himmel erhoben ward, der wird ebenso kommen, in derselben Weise, wie ihr ihn gesehen habt in den Himmel dahin gehen.
and said, ‘People of Galilee, why are you standing here looking up into the heavens? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into the heavens, will come in the same way in which you have seen him go into the heavens.’
12 Hierauf kehrten sie zurück nach Jerusalem vom Berge, den man Oelberg heißt und der nahe bei Jerusalem liegt, einen Sabbatweg weit.
Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called Olivet, which is about three quarters of a mile from the city.
13 Und als sie hineingekommen, giengen sie in das Obergemach hinauf, wo sie sich aufzuhalten pflegten: Petrus und Johannes, und Jakobus und Andreas, Philippus und Thomas, Bartholomäus und Matthäus, Jakobus des Alphäus Sohn und Simon der Eiferer, und Judas des Jakobus Sohn.
When they reached Jerusalem, they went to the upstairs room, where they were staying. There were there Peter, John, James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.
14 Diese alle beharrten da einmüthig im Gebet nebst Frauen, und Mariam der Mutter des Jesus und mit seinen Brüdern.
They all united in devoting themselves to prayer, and so did some women, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
15 Und in diesen Tagen stand Petrus auf inmitten der Brüder und sprach (und es waren etwa hundertundzwanzig Personen beisammen):
About this time, at a meeting of the Lord’s followers, when there were about a hundred and twenty present, Peter rose to speak.
16 ihr Männer und Brüder, es mußte die Schrift erfüllt werden, welche der heilige Geist vorausgeredet hat durch den Mund Davids über Judas, der den Führer gemacht hat für die Häscher Jesus'
‘Friends,’ he said, ‘it was necessary that the prediction of scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit made by the lips of David about Judas, who acted as guide to the men who arrested Jesus,
17 weil er zu uns gezählt war und das Los dieses Dienstes empfangen hatte.
for he was one of our number and had his part allotted him in this work of ours.’
18 Dieser also erwarb sich einen Acker vom Lohne der Ungerechtigkeit, und er that einen Sturz kopfüber, und barst mitten entzwei, und alle seine Eingeweide wurden ausgeschüttet;
(This man had bought a piece of land with the price of his treachery; and, falling heavily, his body had burst open, and all his bowels protruded.
19 was denn auch kund wurde bei allen Einwohnern von Jerusalem, so daß jener Acker in ihrer Sprache den Namen Akeldama erhielt, das heißt Blutacker.
This became known to everyone living in Jerusalem, so that the field came to be called, in their language, “Akeldama,” which means the “Field of Blood.”)
20 Denn es steht geschrieben im Psalmbuch: Seine Hütte soll öde werden, und niemand darin wohnen, und: Sein Amt soll ein Anderer übernehmen.
‘For in the book of Psalms,’ Peter continued, ‘it is said – “Let his home become desolate, and let no one live in it”; and also – “His office let another take.”
21 So muß nun einer von den Männern, welche mit uns gezogen sind die ganze Zeit über, da der Herr Jesus bei uns ein- und ausging,
Therefore, from among the men who have been with us all the time that Jesus, our Master, went in and out among us –
22 von dem Anfang mit der Taufe des Johannes an bis zu dem Tage, da er auferhoben ward von uns weg, von diesen einer muß Zeuge mit uns werden für seine Auferstehung.
from his baptism by John down to that day on which he was taken from us – someone must be found to join us as a witness of his resurrection.’
23 Und sie stellten zwei auf, Joseph mit Namen Barsabbas, der den Beinamen Justus führte, und Matthias,
So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas, whose other name was Justus, and Matthias;
24 und beteten also: du Herr, Herzenskenner über alle, zeige du, welchen von diesen beiden du auserwählt hast, einzunehmen die Stelle dieser Bedienstung und Sendung,
and they offered this prayer – ‘Lord, who reads all hearts, show which of these two men you have chosen
25 von der Judas abgetreten ist, um an seinen eigenen Ort zu gehen;
to take the place in this apostolic work, which Judas has abandoned, to go to his proper place.’
26 und gaben ihnen Lose, und das Los fiel auf Matthias, und er wurde den elf Aposteln beigesellt.
Then they drew lots between them; and, the lot having fallen to Matthias, he was added to the number of the eleven apostles.
