1 Damals versammelte Salomo die Vornehmsten Israels und alle Häupter der Stämme, die Fürsten der israelitischen Geschlechter, zum Könige Salomo nach Jerusalem, um die Lade mit dem Gesetze Jahwes aus der Stadt Davids, das ist Zion, hinaufzubringen.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers’ [houses] of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of the city of David, which is Zion.
2 Da versammelten sich zum Könige Salomo alle Männer Israels im Monat Ethanim, am Feste, das ist der siebente Monat.
And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast, in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.
3 Da kamen alle die Vornehmsten Israels herzu, und die Priester nahmen die Lade auf,
And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.
4 und brachten die Lade Jahwes hinauf samt dem Offenbarungszelt und allen den heiligen Geräten, die sich im Zelte befanden - die brachten die Priester und die Leviten hinauf.
And they brought up the ark of Jehovah, and the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent; even these did the priests and the Levites bring up.
5 Der König Salomo aber und die ganze Gemeinde Israel, die sich bei ihm eingefunden hatte, standen mit ihm vor der Lade, indem sie Schafe und Rinder opferten, so viele, daß man sie nicht zählen noch berechnen konnte.
And king Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be counted nor numbered for multitude.
6 Und die Priester brachten die Lade mit dem Gesetze Jahwes an ihren Ort, in den Hinterraum des Gebäudes in das Allerheiligste unter die Flügel der Kerube.
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Jehovah unto its place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim.
7 Denn die Kerube hielten die Flügel ausgebreitet über den Ort der Lade, und so bedeckten die Kerube die Lade und ihre Stangen von oben her.
For the cherubim spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and the staves thereof above.
8 Und die Stangen waren so lang, daß ihre Spitzen von dem Platze vor dem Hinterraum aus gesehen werden konnten; draußen aber waren sie nicht sichtbar. Und sie blieben daselbst bis auf den heutigen Tag.
And the staves were so long that the ends of the staves were seen from the holy place before the oracle; but they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day.
9 In der Lade war nichts außer den beiden steinernen Tafeln, die Mose am Horeb hineingelegt hatte, den Tafeln des Bundes, den Jahwe mit den Israeliten schloß, als sie aus Ägypten zogen.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, when Jehovah made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
10 Als aber die Priester das Heiligtum verließen, erfüllte die Wolke den Tempel Jahwes,
And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of Jehovah,
11 daß es den Priestern um der Wolke willen unmöglich war, hinzutreten, um Dienst zu thun, denn die Herrlichkeit Jahwes erfüllte den Tempel Jahwes.
so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for the glory of Jehovah filled the house of Jehovah.
12 Damals sprach Salomo:
Then spake Solomon, Jehovah hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
13 Nun habe ich ein Haus gebaut zur Wohnung für dich,
I have surely built thee a house of habitation, a place for thee to dwell in for ever.
14 Und der König wandte sein Angesicht und begrüßte mit einem Segenswunsche die ganze Gemeinde Israel, während die ganze Gemeinde Israel stand.
And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the assembly of Israel: and all the assembly of Israel stood.
15 Und er sprach. Gepriesen sei Jahwe, der Gott Israels, der durch seinen Mund mit meinem Vater David geredet und durch seine Hand erfüllt hat, was er zusagte, indem er sprach:
And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,
16 Seit der Zeit, da ich mein Volk Israel aus Ägypten herausführte, habe ich aus keinem der Stämme Israels eine Stadt erwählt, daß man einen Tempel erbaue, damit mein Name daselbst wäre. Dann aber habe ich Jerusalem erwählt, daß mein Name daselbst wäre, und habe David erwählt, daß er über mein Volk Israel Herrscher sein sollte.
Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.
17 Und mein Vater David hatte zwar im Sinne, dem Namen Jahwes, des Gottes Israels, einen Tempel zu bauen;
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.
18 aber Jahwe sprach zu meinem Vater David: Daß du dir vorgenommen hast, meinem Namen einen Tempel zu bauen, an diesem Entschluss hast du wohlgethan.
But Jehovah said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house for my name, thou didst well that it was in thy heart:
19 Doch nicht du sollst den Tempel bauen, sondern dein Sohn, der aus deinen Lenden hervorgehen wird, der soll meinem Namen den Tempel bauen.
nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
20 Und Jahwe hat die Verheißung, die er gegeben, in Erfüllung gehen lassen. Denn ich trat auf an meines Vaters David Statt und bestieg den Thron Israels, wie Jahwe verheißen hat, und baute den Tempel für den Namen Jahwes, des Gottes Israels.-
And Jehovah hath established his word that he spake; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah promised, and have built the house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.
21 Und ich richtete daselbst eine Stätte her für die Lade, in der sich das Bundesgesetz Jahwes befindet, des Bundes, den er mit unseren Vätern geschlossen hat, als er sie aus Ägypten herausführte.
And there have I set a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of Jehovah, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
22 Und Salomo trat vor den Altar Jahwes angesichts der ganzen Gemeinde Israel, breitete seine Hände aus gen Himmel
And Solomon stood before the altar of Jehovah in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;
23 und sprach: Jahwe, du Gott Israels, es ist kein Gott, weder droben im Himmel, noch unten auf Erden, dir gleich, der du den Bund und die Gnade bewahrst deinen Knechten, die von ganzem Herzen vor dir wandeln,
and he said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath; who keepest covenant and lovingkindness with thy servants, that walk before thee with all their heart;
24 der du deinem Knechte, meinem Vater David, gehalten hast, was du ihm verheißen hattest. Ja, du hattest es mit deinem Munde geredet und mit deiner Hand hast du es erfüllt, wie nunmehr zu ersehen ist.
who hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou didst promise him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hand, as it is this day.
25 Nun denn, Jahwe, du Gott Israels, halte deinem Knechte, meinem Vater David, was du ihm verheißen hast, indem du sprachst: Es soll dir nie fehlen an einem Nachkommen vor mir, der da sitze auf dem Throne Israels, wenn nur deine Söhne auf ihren Weg Acht haben, daß sie vor mir wandeln, gleich wie du vor mir gewandelt hast.
Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me as thou hast walked before me.
26 Und nun, du Gott Israels, laß deine Verheißung wahr werden, die du deinem Knechte, meinem Vater David, gegeben hast.
Now therefore, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father.
27 Sollte in Wahrheit Gott auf Erden wohnen? Siehe, der Himmel und die höchsten Himmel können dich nicht fassen, geschweige denn dieser Tempel, den ich gebaut habe.
But will God in very deed dwell on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded!
28 Aber wende dich zu dem Gebet und Flehen deines Knechtes, Jahwe, mein Gott, daß du hörest auf das Schreien und das Gebet, das dein Knecht heute vor dir betet;
Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee this day;
29 daß deine Augen bei Nacht und bei Tag offen stehen über diesen Tempel, über die Stätte, von der du verheißen hast: Mein Name soll daselbst sein; daß du hörest auf das Gebet, das dein Knecht an dieser Stätte beten wird.
that thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place whereof thou hast said, My name shall be there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place.
30 Und du wollest hören auf die flehentlichen Worte deines Knechts und deines Volkes Israel, die sie an dieser Stätte beten werden; ja, du wollest hören an der Stätte, da du thronest, im Himmel, und wenn du hörst, verzeihen!
And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: yea, hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place; and when thou hearest, forgive.
31 Falls sich jemand wider seinen Nächsten versündigt, und man ihm einen Eid auferlegt, um ihn seine Aussage eidlich bekräftigen zu lassen, und er kommt und schwört vor deinem Altar in diesem Hause:
If a man sin against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he come [and] swear before thine altar in this house;
32 so wollest du hören im Himmel und eingreifen und deinen Knechten Recht schaffen, daß du den Schuldigen verdammst, indem du sein Thun auf sein Haupt zurückfallen lässest, den Unschuldigen aber gerecht sprichst, indem du ihm giebst nach seiner Gerechtigkeit.
then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
33 Wenn dein Volk Israel geschlagen wird und vor dem Feinde fliehen muß, weil sie sich an dir versündigt haben, und sie bekehren sich zu dir und bekennen deinen Namen und beten und flehen zu dir in diesem Hause:
When thy people Israel are smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; if they turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication unto thee in this house:
34 so wollest du hören im Himmel und die Sünde deines Volkes Israel vergeben und sie zurückbringen auf den Boden, den du ihren Vätern verliehen hast.
then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers.
35 Wenn der Himmel verschlossen ist, und kein Regen fällt, weil sie sich an dir versündigt haben, und sie beten an dieser Stätte und bekennen deinen Namen und bekehren sich von ihrer Sünde, weil du sie demütigst:
When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them:
36 so wollest du hören im Himmel und die Sünde deiner Knechte und deines Volkes Israel vergeben, wenn du ihnen den guten Weg weisest, auf dem sie wandeln sollen; und wollest Regen senden auf dein Land, daß du deinem Volke zum Erbbesitze verliehen hast.
then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou teachest them the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
37 Wenn Hungersnot im Lande sein sollte, wenn Pest, wenn Brand und Vergilben des Getreides, oder Heuschrecken und Ungeziefer, wenn sein Feind es bedrängt in einer seiner Ortschaften, kurz wenn irgendwelche Plage, irgendwelche Krankheit eintritt:
If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting [or] mildew, locust [or] caterpillar; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be;
38 geschieht dann irgendein Gebet oder Flehen von irgendeinem Menschen, von deinem ganzen Volk Israel, wenn ein jeglicher den Schlag in seinem Gewissen spürt und seine Hände nach diesem Hause ausbreitet:
what prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, [or] by all thy people Israel, who shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:
39 so wollest du hören im Himmel, der Stätte, da du thronest, und vergeben und schaffen, daß du einem jeglichen gebest, ganz wie er gewandelt hat, wie du sein Herz erkennst, - denn du allein kennst das Herz aller Menschenkinder! -
then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and forgive, and do, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men; )
40 auf daß sie dich fürchten allezeit, solange sie auf dem Boden leben, den du unseren Vätern verliehen hast.
that they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
41 Aber auch auf den Fremdling, der nicht zu deinem Volk Israel gehört, wenn er aus fernem Lande kommt um deines Namens willen,
Moreover concerning the foreigner, that is not of thy people Israel, when he shall come out of a far country for thy name’s sake
42 - denn sie werden hören von deinem großen Namen, deiner starken Hand und deinem ausgereckten Arm - wenn er kommt und vor diesem Tempel betet,
(for they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy mighty hand, and of thine outstretched arm); when he shall come and pray toward this house;
43 so wollest du hören im Himmel, der Stätte, da du thronest, und alles das thun, worum der Fremde dich anruft, damit alle Völker der Erde deinen Namen erkennen, daß sie dich ebenso fürchten, wie dein Volk Israel, und daß sie inne werden, daß dieser Tempel, den ich gebaut habe, nach deinem Namen genannt sei.
hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreigner calleth to thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
44 Wenn dein Volk zum Kampfe gegen seinen Feind ausziehen wird, des Wegs, den du sie senden wirst, und sie zu Jahwe beten in der Richtung nach der Stadt hin, die du erwählt hast, und nach dem Tempel, den ich deinem Namen erbaut habe:
If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatsoever way thou shalt send them, and they pray unto Jehovah toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name;
45 so wollest du ihr Gebet und Flehen im Himmel hören und ihnen Recht verschaffen.
then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
46 Wenn sie sich an dir versündigen werden, - denn es giebt keinen Menschen, der nicht sündigte, - und du auf sie zürnst und sie dem Feinde preis giebst, daß ihre Bezwinger sie gefangen führen in das Land des Feindes, es sei nun fern oder nahe,
If they sin against thee (for there is no man that sinneth not), and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive unto the land of the enemy, far off or near;
47 und sie gegen in sich in dem Lande, wohin sie gefangen geführt sind, und bekehren sich und flehen zu dir im Land ihrer Bezwinger und sprechen: Wir haben gesündigt und verkehrt gehandelt, wir sind gottlos gewesen!
yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captive, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have dealt wickedly;
48 und bekehren sich also zu dir von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele im Land ihrer Feinde, die sie weggeführt haben, und beten zu dir in der Richtung nach ihrem Lande hin, das du ihren Vätern verliehen hast, nach der Stadt, die du erwählt hast, und nach dem Hause, das ich deinem Namen erbaut habe:
if they return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name:
49 so wollest du ihr Gebet und Flehen hören im Himmel, der Stätte, da du thronest, und ihnen Recht verschaffen
then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling-place, and maintain their cause;
50 und deinem Volke vergeben, was sie an dir gesündigt haben, und alle ihre Übertretungen, womit sie sich wider dich vergangen gaben, und wollest ihnen Barmherzigkeit widerfahren lassen von seiten derer, die sie gefangen halten, daß die sich ihrer erbarmen.
and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee; and give them compassion before those who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them
51 Denn sie sind dein Volk und dein Eigentum, das du aus Ägypten herausgeführt hast, mitten aus dem Eisen-Schmelzofen,
(for they are thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron);
52 daß deine Augen offen stehen für das Flehen deines Knechts und das Flehen deines Volkes Israel, daß du sie erhörest in allem, worum sie dich anrufen.
that thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them whensoever they cry unto thee.
53 Denn du hast sie dir ausgesondert zum Eigentum aus allen Völkern der Erde, wie du durch deinen Knecht Mose verheißen hast, als du unsere Väter aus Ägypten herausführtest, o Herr Jahwe!
For thou didst separate them from among all the peoples of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord Jehovah.
54 Und als Salomo all' dieses Gebet und Flehen zu Jahwe ausgebetet hatte, erhob er sich von dem Platze vor dem Altare Jahwes, wo er mit gen Himmel ausgebreiteten Händen auf den Knieen gelegen hatte,
And it was so, that, when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto Jehovah, he arose from before the altar of Jehovah, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread forth toward heaven.
55 und trat hin und segnete die ganze Gemeinde Israel mit lauter Stimme, indem er sprach:
And he stood, and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying,
56 Gepriesen sei Jahwe, der seinem Volk Israel Ruhe verliehen, ganz wie er verheißen hat; keine einzige ist hinfällig geworden von all' den herrlichen Verheißungen, die er durch seinen Knecht Mose gegeben hat.
Blessed be Jehovah, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by Moses his servant.
57 Es sei Jahwe, unser Gott, mit uns, wie er mit unseren Vätern gewesen ist. Er wolle uns nicht verlassen noch verstoßen,
Jehovah our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us;
58 auf daß er unser Herz zu ihm neige, daß wir immerdar auf seinen Wegen wandeln und seine Gebote, Satzungen und Rechte beobachten, die er unseren Vätern anbefohlen hat.
that he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his ordinances, which he commanded our fathers.
59 Und diese meine Worte, die ich flehend vor Jahwe geredet habe, mögen Jahwe, unserem Gotte, bei Tag und bei Nacht nahe sein, daß er seinem Knecht und seinem Volk Israel nach eines jeglichen Tags Erfordernis Recht schaffe,
And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before Jehovah, be nigh unto Jehovah our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel, as every day shall require;
60 damit alle Völker der Erde erkennen, daß Jahwe Gott ist, und keiner sonst.
that all the peoples of the earth may know that Jehovah, he is God; there is none else.
61 Und euer Herz sei ungeteilt gegenüber Jahwe, unserem Gotte, daß ihr nach seinen Satzungen wandelt und seine Gebote haltet, wie es jetzt der Fall ist.
Let your heart therefore be perfect with Jehovah our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
62 Der König aber und ganz Israel mit ihm opferten Schlachtopfer vor Jahwe.
And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before Jehovah.
63 Und zwar opferte Salomo als das Heilsopfer, das er Jahwe schlachtete, 22 000 Rinder und 120 000 Schafe. Also weihten sie den Tempel Jahwes ein, der König und alle Israeliten.
And Solomon offered for the sacrifice of peace-offerings, which he offered unto Jehovah, two and twenty thousand oxen, and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of Jehovah.
64 Jenes Tages weihte der König den mittleren Teil des Vorhofs, der vor dem Tempel Jahwes liegt, indem er die Brandopfer, die Speisopfer und die Fettstücke der Heilsopfer daselbst opferte. Denn der eherne Altar, der vor Jahwe stand, war zu klein, um die Brandopfer und Speisopfer und die Fettstücke der Heilopfer zu fassen.
The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of Jehovah; for there he offered the burnt-offering, and the meal-offering, and the fat of the peace-offerings, because the brazen altar that was before Jehovah was too little to receive the burnt-offering, and the meal-offering, and the fat of the peace-offerings.
65 So beging Salomo zu jener Zeit das Fest und ganz Israel mit ihm, - eine gewaltige Versammlung, von da, wo es nach Hammath hineingeht, an bis zum Bach Ägyptens, - vor Jahwe, unserem Gotte, sieben Tage lang und sieben Tage, zusammen vierzehn Tage.
So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt, before Jehovah our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.
66 Am achten Tag aber entließ er das Volk. Und sie verabschiedeten sich vom König und gingen hin in ihre Heimat fröhlich und gutes Muts wegen all' des Guten, das Jahwe seinem Knechte David und seinem Volk Israel erwiesen hatte.
On the eighth day he sent the people away; and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that Jehovah had showed unto David his servant, and to Israel his people.
