1 Johannes 4
1 Geliebte, glaubt nicht jedem Geist, sondern prüfet die Geister, ob sie aus Gott sind; denn es sind viele Lügenpropheten ausgegangen in die Welt.
Dear friends, do not trust every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2 Daran erkennet den Geist Gottes: jeder Geist, der bekennet Jesus Christus im Fleisch gekommen, ist aus Gott;
This is the way to recognise the Spirit of God: those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as come in the flesh have God’s Spirit,
3 und jeder Geist, der Jesus nicht bekennt, ist nicht aus Gott, und das ist das Wesen des Antichrist, wovon ihr gehört habt, daß er kommt, und jetzt ist er schon in der Welt.
while a spirit that doesn’t acknowledge Jesus isn’t from God. Instead it is the spirit of the antichrist; you have heard that it was coming, and it is now already in the world!
4 Ihr seid aus Gott, Kinder, und habt sie überwunden, weil der in euch größer ist, als der in der Welt.
You, my children, come from God, and you have successfully resisted such people as these, because he who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
5 Sie sind aus der Welt, darum reden sie aus der Welt heraus, und die Welt hört auf sie.
Those people belong to the world and therefore they speak as the world speaks, and the world listens to them.
6 Wir sind aus Gott; wer Gott erkennt, hört auf uns; wer nicht aus Gott ist, hört nicht auf uns. Daran erkennen wir den Geist der Wahrheit und den Geist des Truges.
We come from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; the person who does not come from God does not listen to us. This is how we distinguish the spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.
7 Geliebte, lasset uns einander lieben, weil die Liebe aus Gott ist, und jeder der liebt ist aus Gott gezeugt und erkennt Gott.
Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God and everyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
8 Wer nicht liebt, hat Gott nicht erkannt, weil Gott Liebe ist.
Those who do not love know nothing of God, for God is love.
9 Daran ward die Liebe Gottes an uns offenbar, daß Gott seinen einzigen Sohn in die Welt gesandt hat, damit wir durch ihn leben.
This is how God showed his love among us: he sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
10 Darauf steht die Liebe, nicht daß wir Gott geliebt haben, sondern daß er uns geliebt hat und hat seinen Sohn gesandt als Sühne für unsere Sünden.
This is what love is: it is not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
11 Geliebte, wenn Gott so uns geliebt hat, so sind wir auch schuldig einander zu lieben.
Dear friends, since God loved us in this way, we should love one another.
12 Gott geschaut hat niemand jemals: lieben wir einander, so ist er bleibend in uns, und seine Liebe ist vollendet in uns.
No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love reaches perfection within us.
13 Daran erkennen wir, daß wir in ihm bleiben und er in uns: weil er uns von seinem Geiste gegeben hat.
We know that we live in him, and he lives in us, because he has given us a measure of his Spirit.
14 Und wir, wir haben es geschaut und bezeugen es, daß der Vater den Sohn abgesandt hat als Heiland der Welt.
Moreover, we have seen for ourselves and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Wer nun bekennt, daß Jesus der Sohn Gottes ist, in dem bleibt Gott, und er bleibt in Gott.
Whoever acknowledges that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God lives in them, and they live in God.
16 Und wir haben erkannt und geglaubt die Liebe, welche Gott zu uns hat. Gott ist Liebe, und wer in der Liebe bleibt, bleibt in Gott und Gott bleibt in ihm.
And so we have come to know and believe the love which God has for us. God is love; and whoever lives in love lives in God, and God lives in them.
17 Darin ist die Liebe an uns vollendet, daß wir Zuversicht haben am Tage des Gerichtes; weil wie er ist, so auch wir sind, in dieser Welt.
This is the way love has reached its perfection among us, so that we may have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like Christ.
18 Furcht ist nicht in der Liebe, sondern die vollkommene Liebe treibt die Furcht aus, weil es die Furcht mit Strafe zu thun hat; wer sich fürchtet, ist nicht vollendet in der Liebe.
There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. So anyone who is afraid has not reached perfection in love.
19 Wir lieben, weil er uns zuerst geliebt hat.
We love, because God first loved us.
20 Wenn einer sagt: ich liebe Gott, und haßt seinen Bruder, so ist er ein Lügner. Denn der seinen Bruder nicht liebt, den er gesehen, kann Gott nicht lieben, den er nicht gesehen.
If someone says “I love God,” and yet hates others, they are a liar. For the person who does not love their brother or sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
21 Und dies ist das Gebot das wir von ihm haben, daß wer Gott liebt, auch seinen Bruder liebt.
Indeed, we have this command from Christ: Those who love God must also love each other.
