1 Korinther 8

1 Was dann das Opferfleisch betrifft, so setzen wir voraus, daß wir alle die Erkenntnis haben. Die Erkenntnis bläht auf, die Liebe erbaut.

And concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that we all have knowledge: knowledge puffs up, but love builds up;

2 Dünkt sich einer etwas erkannt zu haben, so hat er noch nicht erkannt, wie man erkennen muß.

and if anyone thinks to know anything, he has not yet known anything according as it is required to know;

3 Wenn aber einer Liebe zu Gott hat, der ist von ihm erkannt.

and if anyone loves God, this one has been known by Him.

4 Was also das Essen des Opferfleisches angeht: so wissen wir, daß kein Götze in der Welt ist, und daß es keinen Gott gibt außer dem einen.

Concerning the eating then of the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except one;

5 Mag es auch sogenannte Götter geben, sei es im Himmel sei es auf Erden, - es sind ja der Götter viele und der Herrn viele -

for even if there are those called gods, whether in Heaven, whether on earth—as there are many gods and many lords—

6 so gibt es doch für uns nur Einen Gott, den Vater, den Schöpfer aller Dinge, der unser Ziel ist, und Einen Herrn Jesus Christus, den Mittler aller Dinge, der auch unser Mittler ist.

yet to us [is] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we to Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom [are] all things, and we through Him;

7 Aber nicht bei allen ist die Erkenntnis zu Hause; da sind noch manche, die, bisher an die Götzen gewöhnt in ihren Gedanken, das Götzenopferfleisch als solches essen, und deren Gewissen, schwach wie es ist, dadurch befleckt wird.

but not in all men [is] the knowledge, and certain with conscience of the idol, until now, eat [it] as a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

8 Nun, auf unser Essen kommt es nicht an vor Gott; wir sind nicht besser, wenn wir essen; wir sind nicht weniger, wenn wir nicht essen:

But food does not commend us to God, for neither if we may eat are we in advance; nor if we may not eat, are we behind;

9 dagegen sehet zu, daß die Macht, die ihr darin habt, nicht den Schwachen zum Anstoß werde.

but see, lest this privilege of yours may become a stumbling-block to the weak,

10 Wenn einer dich mit deiner Erkenntnis im Götzenhause zu Tisch sitzen sieht, muß nicht sein Gewissen, da er doch ein Schwacher ist, dadurch ermutigt werden, Opferfleisch zu essen?

for if anyone may see you that have knowledge in an idol’s temple reclining to eat, will not his conscience—he being weak—be emboldened to eat the things sacrificed to idols?

11 Da wird denn durch deine Erkenntnis der Schwache ins Verderben gestürzt, um dessentwillen Christus gestorben ist.

For the [one] being weak—the brother for whom Christ died—will perish by your knowledge.

12 Wenn ihr euch so an den Brüdern versündigt und ihr schwaches Gewissen verwundet, so sündigt ihr an Christus.

And thus sinning in regard to the brothers, and striking their weak conscience—you sin in regard to Christ;

13 Darum wenn das Essen meinem Bruder Anstoß gibt, so will ich in Ewigkeit kein Fleisch essen, damit ich meinem Bruder keinen Anstoß gebe. (aiōn g165)

for this reason, if food causes my brother to stumble, I may not eat flesh—throughout the age—that I may not cause my brother to stumble. (aiōn g165)
