1 Chronik 21
1 Es trat aber Satan wider Israel auf und reizte David an, Israel zu zählen.
And Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.
2 Da gebot David Joab und den Obersten des Volks: Wohlan, zählet Israel von Beerseba bis Dan und bringt mir Bescheid, damit ich erfahre, wie viele ihrer sind!
And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know the sum of them.
3 Joab erwiderte: Mag Jahwe zu seinem Volke, so viele ihrer sind, noch hundertmal mehr hinzuthun, so sind sie, mein Herr und König, ja doch ingesamt meinem Herrn unterthan - warum verlangt mein Herr solches? Warum soll es Israel zur Verschuldung gereichen?
And Joab said, Jehovah make his people a hundred times as many as they are: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of guilt unto Israel?
4 Aber des Königs Befehl bezwang Joab, und so machte sich denn Joab auf den Weg und zog in ganz Israel umher; sodann kam er wieder nach Jerusalem.
Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
5 Und Joab gab David die Zahl an, die sich bei der Musterung des Volks herausgestellt hatte, und zwar belief sich ganz Israel auf 1100000 schwertgerüstete Männer, und Juda auf 470000 schwertgerüstete Männer.
And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.
6 (Levi und Benjamin aber hatte er nicht mit gemustert, denn der Befehl des Königs war Joab ein Greuel.)
But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them; for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.
7 Gott aber mißfiel diese Sache, und er schlug Israel.
And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.
8 Da sprach David zu Gott: Ich habe schwer damit gesündigt, daß ich dies gethan habe; nun aber laß doch deinem Knechte sein Verschuldung hingehen, denn ich war schwer bethört!
And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing: but now, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
9 Da redete Jahwe zu Gad, dem Seher Davids, also:
And Jehovah spake unto Gad, David’s seer, saying,
10 Gehe hin und sprich zu David also: So spricht Jahwe: Drei Dinge lege ich dir vor; wähle dir eines davon, daß ich es dir anthue!
Go and speak unto David, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
11 Da ging Gad zu David hinein und sprach zu ihm: So spricht Jahwe: Wähle dir!
So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Take which thou wilt:
12 Entweder drei Jahre Hungersnot oder drei Monate Flucht vor deinen Widersachern, indem dich das Schwert deiner Feinde ereilt, oder drei Tage das Schwert Jahwes und Pest im Lande, so daß der Engel Jahwes im ganzen Bereiche Israels Verheerung anrichtet. Nun sieh zu, was ich dem, der mich sendet, antworten soll!
either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before thy foes, while the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land, and the angel of Jehovah destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
13 David entgegnete Gad: Mir ist sehr bange - laß mich in die Hand Jahwes fallen, denn sein Erbarmen ist sehr groß, aber Menschen möchte ich nicht in die Hände fallen!
And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Jehovah; for very great are his mercies: and let me not fall into the hand of man.
14 So verhängte Jahwe eine Pest über Israel, und es fielen aus Israel 70000 Mann.
So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15 Und Gott sandte einen Engel nach Jerusalem, es zu verheeren; als er aber verheerte, sah Jahwe darein und ließ sich das Unheil gereuen und gebot dem Engel, der die Verheerung anzurichten hatte: Genug! Ziehe nun deine Hand ab! - der Engel Jahwes befand sich eben bei der Tenne des Jebusiters Ornan.
And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was about to destroy, Jehovah beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the destroying angel, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 Als nun David aufblickte, sah er den Engel Jahwes zwischen Himmel und Erde stehen, mit dem gezückten Schwert, das gegen Jerusalem ausgestreckt war, in seiner Hand. Da fielen David und die Vornehmen, mit härenen Gewändern bedeckt, nieder auf ihr Angesicht,
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
17 und David betete zu Gott: Ich habe ja den Befehl gegeben, das Volk zu zählen; ich bin es also, der gesündigt und sehr übel gethan hat; diese aber, die Schafe, was haben sie gethan? Jahwe, mein Gott, laß doch deine Hand sich gegen mich und meine Familie wenden, nicht aber gegen dein Volk, daß es einer Seuche erliege!
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I pray thee, O Jehovah my God, be against me, and against my father’s house; but not against thy people, that they should be plagued.
18 Der Engel Jahwes aber hatte Gad angewiesen, David zu sagen, David möge hinaufgehen, um Jahwe auf der Tenne des Jebusiters Ornan einen Altar zu errichten.
Then the angel of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and rear an altar unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 Da begab sich David auf Gads Geheiß, das dieser im Namen Jahwes ausgesprochen hatte, hinauf.
And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of Jehovah.
20 Und Ornan kehrte zurück und sah den König, während sich seine vier Söhne, die bei ihm waren, versteckten; Ornan aber drasch gerade Weizen.
And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons that were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21 Als nun David zu Ornan kam, blickt Ornan auf und gewahrte David. Da trat er aus der Tenne heraus und verneigte sich vor David mit dem Angesicht bis auf den Boden.
And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22 David sprach zu Ornan: Tritt mir den Tennenplatz ab, damit ich Jahwe einen Altar darauf erbaue - für den vollen Betrag sollst du mir ihn abtreten! - und so die Seuche vom Volk abgewehrt wird.
Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar unto Jehovah: for the full price shalt thou give it me, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
23 Ornan entgegnete David: Nimm sie hin, und mein Herr und König wolle thun, was ihm beliebt! Siehe da, ich gebe dir die Rinder zu den Brandopfern und die Dreschschlitten zum Brennholz und den Weizen zum Speisopfer - alles gebe ich dir!
And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give [thee] the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal-offering; I give it all.
24 Der König David erwiderte jedoch Ornan: Nein, sondern ich will es käuflich erwerben um den vollen Betrag; denn ich will nicht, was dir gehört, für Jahwe nehmen, um ein Brandopfer zu bringen, das ich umsonst habe!
And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for Jehovah, nor offer a burnt-offering without cost.
25 So gab denn David Ornan für den Platz die Summe von sechshundert Goldsekeln.
So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
26 Sodann baute David dort Jahwe einen Altar und brachte Brandopfer und Heilsopfer dar, und als er Jahwe anrief, da antwortete er ihm mit der Herabsendung von Feuer vom Himmel her auf den Brandopferaltar.
And David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon Jehovah; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering.
27 Und Jahwe befahl dem Engel, sein Schwert wieder in die Scheide zu stecken.
And Jehovah commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.
28 Damals, als David wahrnahm, daß ihm Jahwe auf der Tenne des Jebusiters Ornan geantwortet hatte, opferte er dort.
At that time, when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29 Die Wohnung Jahwes aber, die Mose in der Steppe angefertigt hatte, und der Brandopferaltar befanden sich damals auf der Opferhöhe zu Gibeon.
For the tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt-offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
30 David konnte jedoch nicht vor ihm erscheinen, um Gott zu suchen, denn er war erschrocken vor dem Schwerte des Engels Jahwes.
But David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Jehovah.
