Psalm 136

1 Dem Herrn sagt Dank! Denn er ist gut. Ja, ewig währet seine Huld.

Thank Yahweh, because he does good things [for us]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

2 Dem Gott der Götter danket; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

Thank God, the one who is greater than all other gods; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

3 Dem Herrn der Herren danket; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

Thank the Lord who is greater than all other lords/rulers; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

4 Ihm, der allein nur große Wunder tut; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He is the only one who performs great miracles; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

5 Ihm, der mit Einsicht schuf den Himmel; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He is the one who by being very wise created the heavens; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

6 Ihm, der die Erde ausgebreitet auf den Wassern; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He is the one who caused the ground to rise up above the deep waters; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

7 Ihm, der die großen Lichter schuf; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He is the one who created great lights [in the sky]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

8 Die Sonne als die Königin des Tages; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He created the sun to shine in the daytime; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

9 Als Nachtbeherrscher Mond und Sterne; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He created the moon and stars to shine during the nighttime; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

10 Der die Ägypter schlug an ihren Erstgeborenen; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He is the one who killed the firstborn [males] in Egypt; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

11 Der Israel aus ihrer Mitte führte; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He led the Israeli people out of Egypt; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

12 Mit starker Hand und ausgestrecktem Arme; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

With his (strong hand/great power) he led them out; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

13 Ihm, der das Schilfmeer schnitt in Teile; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He is the one who caused the Red Sea to divide; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

14 Der Israel durch seine Mitte führte; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He enabled the Israeli people to walk through it [on dry land]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

15 Der Pharao und seine Macht ins Schilfmeer stürzte; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

But he caused the king of Egypt and his army to drown in it; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

16 Der seines Volkes Führer durch die Wüste war; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He is the one who led his people [safely through the desert]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

17 Der große Könige erschlug; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He killed powerful kings; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

18 Der starken Königen das Leben nahm; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He killed kings who were famous; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

19 Den Amoriterkönig Sichon; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He killed Sihon, the king of the Amor people-group; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

20 Und Og, den Basankönig; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He killed Og, the king of Bashan [region]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

21 Und der ihr Land zum ewigen Besitze machte; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He gave their lands to us, his people; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

22 Zum ewigen Besitz für seinen Diener Israel; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He gave those lands to us people of Israel, who serve him; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

23 Der unsere Erniedrigung uns hoch anschrieb; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He is the one who did not forget about us when we were defeated [by our enemies]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

24 Der uns von unseren Bedrängern rettete; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He rescued us from our enemies; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

25 Der allem Fleische Speise gibt; denn ewig währet seine Huld!

He is the one who gives food to all living creatures; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

26 Dem Himmelsgott sagt Dank! Denn ewig währet seine Huld!

[So] thank God, [who lives in] heaven, [for all those things], because his faithful love [for us] endures forever!
