Psalm 10
1 Warum stehst Du so ferne, Herr, entziehst Dich in der Zeit der Not? -
Wherefore, O Yahweh, shouldst thou stand afar off? [Wherefore] hide thyself, in times of destitution?
2 Gequält wird durch des Frevlers Übermut der Arme; er fängt ihn durch die Ränke, die er sich ersonnen.
In the pride of the lawless one, he hotly pursueth the poor, let them be caught in the plots which they have devised!
3 Gejubelt hat nach Herzenslust der Frevler, Gewissenlosigkeit gepriesen und dazu den Herrn geschmäht.
For the lawless one hath boasted over the longing of his soul, and, the robber, hath blasphemed Yahweh.
4 Der Frevler spricht in höchstem Stolz: "Man ahndet nichts; dafür gibt's keinen Gott." Bestehen bleiben alle seine Pläne.
The lawless one, in the loftiness of his countenance, will not enquire, God is not in any of his plots:
5 Sein Weg ist stets erfolgreich, und ferne sind ihm Deine Strafgerichte; all seine Gegner höhnt er aus.
His ways are firm at all times, On high, are thy righteous regulations, out of his sight, As for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them:
6 Er denkt bei sich: "Ich wanke nimmer in der Zukunft Zeit, in der kein Übel ist."
He hath said in his heart, I shall not be shaken, —From generation to generation, shall I be in no misfortune.
7 Voll Meineid, Trug und Arglist ist sein Mund, und was er spricht, ist Unheil und Verderben.
With cursing, his mouth is full, and with deceptions and oppression, Under his tongue, are trouble and mischief:
8 Er liegt auf Lauer hinter Zäunen, um im Verstecke Wehrlose zu morden; nach Unglücklichen spähen seine Augen aus.
He abideth in the lurking-place of villages, In the hiding-places, he murdereth the innocent, —His eyes, for the unfortunate, are on the watch:
9 Er lauert im Versteck, dem Löwen gleich im Dickicht; er lauert, einen Armen zu erhaschen. Er zieht sein Netz zusanunen, hascht den Armen.
He lieth in wait in a hiding-place, like a lion in his covert, He lieth in wait to catch the humbled, He catcheth the humbled, by drawing him into his net:
10 Der krümmt und windet sich; doch schließlich fällt der Unglückselige in seine Klauen.
He croucheth, he lieth down, then falleth he with his strong claws upon the unfortunate.
11 "Gott denkt nicht dran", spricht er bei sich. "Er hat sein Angesicht verhüllt und sieht es nicht in Ewigkeit." -
He hath said in his heart, GOD hath forgotten, —He hath veiled his face, Oh he hath never seen!
12 Auf, Herr! Den Arm erhebe, Gott! Vergiß doch nicht der Elenden! -
Arise! Yahweh! O GOD! raise thy hand, —Do not forget the patient!
13 Was höhnt der Frevler Gott und denkt bei sich: "Du ahndest nichts"? -
Wherefore hath the lawless one blasphemed God? He hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require [it]!
14 Du hast's gesehn, Du schaust ja hin auf Leid und Jammer. In Deine Hände sich ergebend, auf Dich verläßt sich, wer in Not. Verwaisten bist Du ja ein Helfer.
Thou hast seen! For, thou, mischief and misery, dost discern, to requite with thine own hand, Unto thee, doth, the unfortunate one, give himself up, To the fatherless, thou thyself, hast become a helper.
15 Zerbrich des Frevlers Arm; zerschmettere ihn! Wenn er nach seinem Frevel greift, dann fasse er ihn nimmermehr! -
Shatter thou the arm of the lawless one, And, as for the wrongful, wilt thou not enquire for his lawlessness—wilt thou not find [it]?
16 Der Herr sei König immer und auf ewig! Aus seinem Lande mögen fort die Heiden schwinden!
Yahweh, is king, to times age-abiding and beyond, The nations have perished out of his land.
17 Den Wunsch der Elenden erhöre, Herr, und ihres Herzens Sorgen neige hin Dein Ohr,
The longing of the patient, thou hast heard, O Yahweh, Thou wilt establish their heart, Thou wilt make attentive thine ear:
18 und schaff den Waisen und Bedrängten Recht, daß sie nie mehr ein Mensch im Lande schrecke!
To vindicate the fatherless and the crushed, A man of the earth, shall, no further, cause terror!
