1 Mein Sohn! Merk wohl auf meine Weisheit und neige meiner Einsicht hin dein Ohr!
My son, attend unto my wisdom, [and] bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 Alsdann behältst du Einsicht, und deine Lippen wahren Klugheit.
That thou mayest regard discretion, and [that] thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 Von Honigseim triefen die Lippen eines fremden Weibes; sein Gaumen ist noch glätter selbst als Öl.
For the lips of a strange woman drop [as] an honeycomb, and her mouth [is] smoother than oil:
4 Am Ende aber ist sie bitter wie der Wermut und scharf wie ein zweischneidig Schwert.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
5 Zum Tode gehn die Füße, die sie besuchen, zur Unterwelt die Schritte, die zu ihr lenken. (Sheol h7585)
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. (Sheol h7585)
6 Geht sie den Weg des Lebens? Irrpfade nur sind ihre Bahnen; sie weiß es nicht.
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, [that] thou canst not know [them].
7 Nun, meine Söhne, hört auf mich! Von meines Mundes Reden weichet nicht!
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 Halt ferne deinen Weg von ihr! Komm nicht der Türe ihres Hauses nahe!
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 Sonst mußt du deine Kraft mit einer Fremden, mit einer Unbarmherzigen dein Lager teilen.
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 Und Fremde werden satt durch deine Arbeit, und deiner Mühen Preis wird einem andern Haus zuteil.
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours [be] in the house of a stranger;
11 Und schließlich mußt du stöhnen, wenn Leib und Fleisch dir schwinden,
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 und mußt bekennen: "Ach, daß ich Zucht gehaßt und daß mein Herz die Warnung hat verschmäht,
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 daß ich der Stimme meiner Lehrer nicht gehorcht und nicht mein Ohr geliehen meinen Lehrmeistern!
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 Fast wäre ich geworden "alles Böse in der Gemeinde und Versammlung".
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Aus deiner Grube Wasser trink; nur was aus deinem Brunnen quillt!
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Nicht sollen deine Ströme sich nach außen gießen, nicht auf die freien Plätze deine Wasserbäche!
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, [and] rivers of waters in the streets.
17 Sie sollen dir allein gehören und nicht den Fremden neben dir!
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.
18 Gesegnet sei dein Born! Erfreu dich an dem Weibe deiner Jugend,
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 an dieser Hindin gar so lieb, an der Gazelle, also fein! Allzeit kann ihre Liebe dich berauschen; du kannst dich ihrem Lieben immerdar ergeben.
[Let her be as] the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 Warum nur wolltest du, mein Sohn, dich einer anderen ergeben, umarmen einer Fremden Busen?
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 Klar liegen vor des Herren Auge eines jeden Wege; auf alle seine Pfade hat er acht.
For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 Den Frevler nimmt gefangen seine Schuld; gebunden wird er mit den Stricken seiner Sünde.
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 Er stirbt aus Mangel an Botmäßigkeit und durch die große Torheit, der er sich ergeben.
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
