Sprueche 24
1 Verlange nicht nach Boshaften! Trag kein Gelüst, mit ihnen zu verkehren!
Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
2 Denn nur Gewalttat sinnt ihr Herz, und Unheil reden ihre Lippen.
For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
3 Durch Weisheit wird allein ein Haus erbaut, und durch verständig Wesen wird es fest gegründet.
Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
4 Durch Einsicht füllen sich die Kammern mit seltener und wohlverdienter Habe.
And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
5 Ein weiser Mann ist mächtig, ein Kluger voller Kraft.
A wise man [is] strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
6 Mit Kunst fuhrst glücklich du den Krieg; der Sieg ist da, wo viele Ratgeber.
For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors [there is] safety.
7 Dem Toren ist die Weisheit unerreichbar; er fragt nicht auf dem Markt danach.
Wisdom [is] too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
8 Wer Schlechtigkeit zu tun sich vornimmt, den heißt man einen abgefeimten Schurken.
He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
9 Das Dichten und das Trachten eines Toren ist das Laster, und das des Spötters sind Abscheulichkeiten.
The thought of foolishness [is] sin: and the scorner [is] an abomination to men.
10 Wenn du dich schlaff an schlimmen Tagen zeigst, wird deine Kraft sich mindern.
[If] thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength [is] small.
11 Die man zum Tode führt, die suche zu befreien; verlaß nicht, die man führt zur Hinrichtung hinaus!
If thou forbear to deliver [them that are] drawn unto death, and [those that are] ready to be slain;
12 Denn, wenn du sagst: "Wir haben's nicht gekonnt", durchschaut's nicht der, der alle Herzen wägt, und wird's nicht inne, der auf deine Seele achtet? Wird nicht dem Mann nach seinem Tun vergolten?
If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider [it]? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth [not] he know [it]? and shall [not] he render to [every] man according to his works?
13 Mein Sohn iß Honig! Er ist gut. Und Honigseim! Süß ist er deinem Gaumen.
My son, eat thou honey, because [it is] good; and the honeycomb, [which is] sweet to thy taste:
14 So schätze auch die Weisheit ein für deine Seele! Wenn du sie findest, gibt es eine Zukunft, und deine Hoffnung wird nicht mehr zuschanden.
So [shall] the knowledge of wisdom [be] unto thy soul: when thou hast found [it], then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
15 Belaure, Frevler, nicht des Frommen Ruhestätte! Dir soll es nicht gelingen, seine Lagerstätte zu zerstören.
Lay not wait, O wicked [man], against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
16 Denn fällt auch siebenmal der Fromme, steht er doch immer wieder auf; die Frevler aber sinken in das Unglück.
For a just [man] falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
17 Nicht juble über deines Feindes Fall, und über seinen Sturz frohlocke nicht dein Herz!
Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
18 Sonst sieht mit Mißbehagen es der Herr und wendet seinen Zorn von jenem.
Lest the LORD see [it], and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
19 Erhitze dich nicht über Bösewichte! Ereifere dich nicht über Frevler!
Fret not thyself because of evil [men], neither be thou envious at the wicked;
20 Denn keine Zukunft hat der Böse; des Bösewichtes Leuchte wird erlöschen.
For there shall be no reward to the evil [man; ] the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
21 Mein Sohn! Fürchte den Herrn und fürcht den König! Mit Aufrührern verkehre nicht!
My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: [and] meddle not with them that are given to change:
22 Denn plötzlich kommt ihr Unheil, und dem Mißgeschicke, das von beiden kommt, wer weiß ihm zu begegnen?
For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
23 Auch das sind Aussprüche von Weisen: Bei Gericht Parteilichkeit: ein übel Ding.
These [things] also [belong] to the wise. [It is] not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
24 Wer zu dem Schuldigen spricht: "Du bist im Recht", ja, den verwünschen Völker und verfluchen Nationen.
He that saith unto the wicked, Thou [art] righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
25 Doch denen, die gebührend strafen, ergeht es wohl, und über sie kommt Glück und Segen.
But to them that rebuke [him] shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
26 Die Lippen schließt, wer immer rechte Antwort gibt.
[Every man] shall kiss [his] lips that giveth a right answer.
27 Besorge draußen dein Geschäft! Bestell den Acker dir! Setz dein Gebäude gut instand!
Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
28 Sei gegen deinen Nächsten niemals Zeuge ohne Grund! Täusch mit den Lippen nicht!
Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive [not] with thy lips.
29 Sprich nicht: "So wie er mir getan, so will auch ich ihm tun; ich will dem Mann nach seinem Tun vergelten!"
Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
30 Den Acker eines faulen Mannes habe ich betrachtet, den Weinberg eines unverständigen Menschen.
I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31 Da war er ganz in Wicken aufgegangen; das Unkraut deckte seine Fläche, und seine Steinmauer war eingerissen.
And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, [and] nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32 Ich habe hingeschaut und es beherzigt; ich habe hingeblickt und eine Warnung mir daraus genommen.
Then I saw, [and] considered [it] well: I looked upon [it, and] received instruction.
33 "Ach noch ein wenig Schlaf, ein wenig Schlummer, ein wenig noch die Hände ineinander legen, um zu ruhen!"
[Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34 Schon kommt die Armut über dich gleich der des Strolches, und Mangel gleich dem eines Bettlers.
So shall thy poverty come [as] one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
