Sprueche 23
1 Wenn du beim Mahl bei einem Fürsten sitzest, gib acht auf das, was man dir vorsetzt!
When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, thou shalt consider well, what is before thee;
2 Nur wenig leg dir in den Teller, falls du die Gier beherrschen willst!
And shalt put a knife to thy throat, if, of great appetite, thou art:
3 Nach Leckerbissen hege kein Gelüste! Es kann dies eine Speise der Enttäuschung sein.
Do not crave his dainties, for, the same, are deceitful food.
4 Bemüh dich nicht um Reichtum! Steh ab davon aus Klugheit!
Do not toil to get wealth, of thine own understanding, forbear:
5 Denn, schaust du nach ihm aus, ist er nicht da; er schafft sich Adlerflügel an und fliegt gen Himmel.
Wilt thou let thine eye fly thereupon, when it is nothing? for it will, surely make, itself wings, Like an eagle, will it wing its way across the heavens.
6 Mit einem Menschen voller Mißgunst speise nicht! Nach seinen Leckerbissen hege kein Gelüste!
Do not eat the food of him that hath a begrudging eye, neither crave thou his dainties;
7 Denn wie ein Ekel beim Genuß ist es mit diesem: "Iß doch und trink!" sagt er zu dir; er aber meint's mit dir nicht ehrlich.
For, just as he hath thought in his own mind, so, he is: Eat and drink! he may say to thee, but, his heart, is not with thee.
8 Den Bissen, den du issest, sollst du wieder ausspeien, verderben dir die guten Sachen.
As for thy morsel thou hast eaten, thou shalt vomit it, so shalt thou waste thy things so sweet.
9 Red nicht vor eines Toren Ohren! Denn er verachtet deiner Rede klugen Sinn.
In the ears of a dullard, do not speak, for he will despise the good sense of thy words.
10 Verrück die Grenze nicht der Kinder! Mach keinen Eingriff in der Waisen Äcker!
Do not move back the ancient boundary, and, into the fields of the fatherless, do not enter;
11 Denn der sie schützt, ist stark, führt ihre Sache wider dich.
For, their near of kin, is strong, he, will plead their cause with thee.
12 Was über Zucht ich sage, merk dir wohl! Auf einsichtsvolle Rede höre!
Bring, to correction, thy heart, and thine ears, to the sayings of knowledge.
13 Entzieh nicht deinem Knaben seine Züchtigung! Wenn du ihn mit der Rute schlägst, so stirbt er nicht daran.
Do not withhold, from a child, correction, When thou smitest him with the rod, he shall not die:
Thou, with the rod, shalt smite him, and, his soul from hades, shalt thou deliver. (Sheol h7585)
15 Mein Sohn! Wird weise je dein Herz, dann bin auch ich in meinem Herzen fröhlich.
My son! if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
16 Mein Innerstes frohlockt, wenn deine Lippen reden das, was recht.
So shall my reins exult, when thy lips speak the things that are right.
17 Es eifere nicht dein Herz den Sündern nach, es streb vielmehr nach Gottesfurcht zu allen Zeiten!
Let not thy heart be envious of sinners, only of the reverence of Yahweh, all day long;
18 Dann hast du eine Zukunft, und nicht zuschanden wird dir deine Hoffnung.
For surely there is a future, and, thine expectation, shall not be cut off.
19 Mein Sohn! Horch auf! Und werde weise! Laß nur geraden Weg dein Herz beschreiten!
Hear, thou, my son, and be wise, and lead forward, in duty, thy heart.
20 Sei nicht bei Weinsäufern und nicht bei liederlichen Menschen!
Do not be among them who tipple with wine, —among them who are gluttons;
21 Der Säufer und der liederliche Mensch verarmen; die Dirne kleidet dich in Lumpen.
For, the tippler and the glutton, shall come to poverty, and, rags, shall Slumber put on!
22 Auf deinen Vater hör, der dich gezeugt! Mißachte nimmer deine Mutter, weil sie alt geworden!
Hearken to thy father here, who begat thee, and despise not, when she is old, thy mother.
23 Die Wahrheit kauf! Versäum nicht ihren Einkauf, nicht den von Weisheit, Zucht und Einsicht!
Truth, buy thou, but do not sell, wisdom, and correction, and understanding.
24 Gar laut frohlockt der Vater eines Frommen; wer einen Weisen zeugt, der freut sich über ihn.
Greatly shall exult, the father of a righteous man, and, he that begetteth a wise son, shall rejoice in him:
25 So freue sich dein Vater über dich! Frohlocken möge die, die dich geboren!
Rejoice shall thy father and thy mother, yea she, shall exult, who bare thee.
26 Mein Sohn, gib mir dein Herz! Laß deinen Augen meine Wege wohlgefallen!
Oh give, my son, thy mind unto me, and let, thine eyes, observe, my ways;
27 Denn eine tiefe Grube ist das andere Weib; ein enger Brunnen ist die Fremde.
For, a deep chasm, is the unchaste woman, and, a narrow pit, the female unknown;
28 ja, wie ein Räuber liegt sie auf der Lauer, verübt an Menschen viel Betrug.
Yea, she, as for prey, lieth in wait, and, the treacherous among mankind, she causeth to abound.
29 Wer hat nur Ach? Und wer hat Wehe? Wer hat nur Streitereien? Und wer Klagen? Wer Wunden ganz umsonst? Wer hat ein blaues Auge?
Who hath woe? Who hath outcry of pain? Who hath contentions? Who hath complaining? Who hath needless wounds? Who hath dullness of eyes?
30 Die spät beim Weine sitzen, die zu des Mischtranks Probe kommen.
They who tarry over wine, they who go in to search for mixed wine.
31 Schau nach dem Wein nicht gierig, wie er rötlich schimmert, wie er im Becher funkelnd leicht hinuntergleitet!
Do not look on wine when it becometh red, when it giveth in the cup its sparkle, glideth down smoothly.
32 Zum Schlusse gleicht er einer Schlange, die dich sticht, und einem Basilisken, der sein Gift verspritzt.
Its after effect, is that, like a serpent, it biteth, and, like a viper, it doth sting.
33 Und deine Augen blicken schief; dein Herz denkt ganz verkehrte Sachen.
Thine eyes, will see strange women, and, thy heart, will speak perverse things:
34 Und du gleichst einem Mann, der mitten in dem Meere liegt, ja einem Mann, der oben auf dem Mastbaum sitzt.
So shalt thou become, as one lying down in the heart of the sea, —or as one lying down on the top of the mastgear:
35 "Ja, hätt' man mich geschlagen, hätt' es mir nicht weh getan. Und wenn man mich geprügelt, hätt' ich's nicht gemerkt. Sobald ich wieder nüchtern bin, will ich aufs neue mich ihm wiederum ergeben."
They smote me—I felt no pain, They struck me down—I noticed it not, —When shall I wake up? I will go on, I will seek it, again!
