Nahum 3
1 Weh dieser blutbefleckten Stadt, ganz Lug und Trug, der Grausamkeiten voll, im Rauben unersättlich!
Woe to the bloody city! it [is] all full of lies [and] robbery; the prey departeth not;
2 Horch, Peitschenknall! Horch! Räderrasseln! Rennende Rosse und rollende Wagen!
The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.
3 Stürmende Reiter und funkelnde Schwerter und blitzende Lanzen, Erschlagene in Menge und Tote haufenweise! Kein Ende mehr der Leichen; man stolpert über ihre Leiber,
The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and [there is] a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and [there is] none end of [their] corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:
4 der vielen Buhlereien wegen dieser Buhlerin, der so berückenden und zauberkundigen, die Heidenvölker heimgesucht mit ihren Buhlereien, mit ihren Zaubereien Völkerstämme.
Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.
5 "Fürwahr, ich will an dich"; ein Spruch des Herrn der Heerscharen, "bis über das Gesicht deck ich dir deine Schleppen auf, und deine Schande zeige ich den Völkern, den Königreichen deine Schmach.
Behold, I [am] against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.
6 Zu deinem Schimpf beschmutze ich dich jetzt mit Kot und werfe dich in Schmutz.
And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.
7 Wer dich erblickt, der wendet sich mit Ekel von dir ab und spricht: 'Mit Ninive ist's aus. Wer mag's bedauern?'" Wo nehme ich nur Leute her, die dich bejammern? -
And it shall come to pass, [that] all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
8 Hast du dich besser als No Ammon eingerichtet, das an den Flüssen lag, von Wasser rings umgeben, zu dessen Wall ein See, zu dessen Mauern Wasser diente?
Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, [that had] the waters round about it, whose rampart [was] the sea, [and] her wall [was] from the sea?
9 Zahlreiche Äthiopier, Ägypter ohne Zahl und Put und Libyer dienten ihm als Hilfe.
Ethiopia and Egypt [were] her strength, and [it was] infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.
10 Und dennoch mußte es in die Verbannung ziehen, in Gefangenschaft. An allen Straßenecken wurden seine Kinder zerschmettert, über seine Edlen ward das Los geworfen, und allen seinen Großen wurden Ketten angelegt.
Yet [was] she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
11 So wirst auch du berauscht und wirst umnachtet; auch du mußt Zuflucht vor dem Feinde suchen.
Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.
12 All deine Festungswerke sind wie Feigenbäume mit frühreifen Feigen. Beim Schütteln fallen sie dem in den Mund, der sie verzehren will.
All thy strong holds [shall be like] fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Ja, Weibern gleicht bei dir dein Volk, und deinen Feinden öffnen sich die Pforten deines Landes, und deine Riegel frißt das Feuer.
Behold, thy people in the midst of thee [are] women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.
14 Schöpf Wasser dir für die Belagerung! Verstärke deine Festungswerke! Herbei mit Lehm! Stampf Ton! Und bessere das Ziegelbauwerk aus!
Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.
15 Dich frißt das Feuer, und dich fällt das Schwert und frißt dich, wie Heuschrecken tun. - Vermehre dich wie Heuschrecken! Vermehre dich wie Ungeziefer!
There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.
16 Mach deine Händler zahlreich wie des Himmels Sterne! Die Heuschrecken entpuppen sich und fliegen fort.
Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.
17 Und seien's deiner Streiter auch so viele wie Ungeziefer und deiner Späher so viele wie Heuschrecken, die an den Mauern sich an kalten Tagen aufhalten; wenn dann die Sonne aufgeht, fliegen sie davon, und niemand kennt die Stätte, wo sie waren.
Thy crowned [are] as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, [but] when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they [are].
18 Zum Schlafe sinken deine Fürsten hin, Assyrerkönig, und deine Helden ruhen; auf Bergen ist dein Volk zerstreut, und niemand sammelt es.
Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell [in the dust: ] thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth [them].
19 Kein Mittel gibt's für deine Wunde, unheilbar dein Schaden. Ein jeder, der von deinem Schicksal hört, klatscht deinetwegen in die Hände. Denn über wen entlud sich nicht andauernd deine Bosheit?
[There is] no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
