Lukas 1
1 Viele haben es schon unternommen, zusammenhängend zu erzählen, was für Begebenheiten sich unter uns zugetragen haben.
Since, indeed, many have attempted to set in order a narrative of the things that have been completed among us,
2 Sie haben sich dabei an die Überlieferungen derer gehalten, die von Anfang an Augenzeugen und Diener des Wortes waren.
just as they have been handed on to those of us who from the beginning saw the same and were ministers of the word,
3 So habe auch ich mich entschlossen, allen Ereignissen von ihren ersten Anfängen an sorgfältig nachzugehen und sie für dich, edler Theophilus, der Reihe nach aufzuschreiben.
so it seemed good to me also, having diligently followed everything from the beginning, to write to you, in an orderly manner, most excellent Theophilus,
4 Auf diese Weise kannst du dich von der Zuverlässigkeit der Lehren überzeugen, in denen du unterrichtet worden bist.
so that you might know the truthfulness of those words by which you have been instructed.
5 In den Tagen des Herodes, des Königs von Judäa, lebte ein Priester namens Zacharias, aus der Priesterklasse des Abia. Er hatte eine Frau aus dem Geschlechte Aarons; ihr Name war Elisabeth.
There was, in the days of Herod, king of Judea, a certain priest named Zechariah, of the section of Abijah, and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 Beide waren fromm vor Gott und lebten tadellos in allen Geboten und Satzungen des Herrn.
Now they were both just before God, progressing in all of the commandments and the justifications of the Lord without blame.
7 Doch hatten sie kein Kind; Elisabeth war nämlich unfruchtbar, und beide waren auch schon hochbetagt.
And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both had become advanced in years.
8 Einst versah er seinen Dienst vor Gott, weil seine Priesterklasse an der Reihe war.
Then it happened that, when he was exercising the priesthood before God, in the order of his section,
9 Weil es in der Priesterschaft Gewohnheit war, ward gelost, und er hatte das Rauchopfer darzubringen. So trat er in den Tempel des Herrn ein,
according to the custom of the priesthood, the lot fell so that he would offer incense, entering into the temple of the Lord.
10 die ganze Volksmenge betete jedoch zur Zeit des Rauchopfers draußen.
And the entire multitude of the people was praying outside, at the hour of incense.
11 Da erschien ihm rechts vom Rauchopferaltar ein Engel des Herrn.
Then there appeared to him an Angel of the Lord, standing at the right of the altar of incense.
12 Zacharias erschrak, als er ihn sah, und es befiel ihn Furcht.
And upon seeing him, Zechariah was disturbed, and fear fell over him.
13 Der Engel aber sprach zu ihm: "Fürchte dich nicht, Zacharias! Dein Gebet ist erhört; Elisabeth, dein Weib, wird dir einen Sohn schenken, und du sollst ihn Johannes nennen.
But the Angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth shall bear a son to you. And you shall call his name John.
14 Du wirst darüber freudig jubeln, und viele werden über seine Geburt sich freuen.
And there will be joy and exultation for you, and many will rejoice in his nativity.
15 Denn er wird groß sein durch die Gnade Gottes. Wein und berauschendes Getränk wird er nicht trinken und schon im Mutterschoß voll des Heiligen Geistes sein.
For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
16 Und viele der Kinder Israels wird er zum Herrn, ihrem Gott, bekehren.
And he will convert many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God.
17 Er wird vor ihm einhergehen im Geist und in der Kraft des Elias, um den Sinn der Väter den Kindern wieder einzuflößen, Unfolgsame zur Gesinnung Frommer hinzuführen und dem Herrn ein williges Volk zu bereiten."
And he will go before him with the spirit and power of Elijah, so that he may turn the hearts of the fathers to the sons, and the incredulous to the prudence of the just, so as to prepare for the Lord a completed people.”
18 Doch Zacharias sprach zu dem Engel: "Woran soll ich das erkennen? Ich bin schon alt, und auch mein Weib ist hochbetagt."
And Zechariah said to the Angel: “How may I know this? For I am elderly, and my wife is advanced in years.”
19 Darauf gab ihm der Engel zur Antwort: "Ich bin Gabriel, der vor Gott steht, und bin gesandt, mit dir zu reden und dir diese frohe Botschaft zu bringen.
And in response, the Angel said to him: “I am Gabriel, who stands before God, and I have been sent to speak to you, and to proclaim these things to you.
20 Siehe, du sollst stumm sein und nicht reden können, bis auf den Tag, da dies eintrifft, weil du meinen Worten nicht geglaubt hast, die zu ihrer Zeit in Erfüllung gehen werden."
And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak, until the day on which these things shall be, because you have not believed my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.”
21 Das Volk, das auf Zacharias wartete, wunderte sich sehr, daß er so lange im Tempel weilte.
And the people were waiting for Zechariah. And they wondered why he was being delayed in the temple.
22 Er trat heraus; doch konnte er nicht zu ihnen reden, und sie erkannten, daß er im Tempel ein Gesicht geschaut hatte. Er konnte ihnen nur noch winken und blieb stumm.
Then, when he came out, he was unable to speak to them. And they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he was making signs to them, but he remained mute.
23 Als die Zeit seines Dienstes vorüber war, begab er sich nach Hause zurück.
And it happened that, after the days of his office were completed, he went away to his house.
24 Hernach empfing Elisabeth, sein Weib, und zog sich auf fünf Monate zurück.
Then, after those days, his wife Elizabeth conceived, and she hid herself for five months, saying:
25 Sie sprach: "So hat der Herr an mir getan; er hat auf mich in diesen Tagen herabgeschaut und vor den Menschen meine Schmach hinweggenommen."
“For the Lord did this for me, at the time when he decided to take away my reproach among men.”
26 Im sechsten Monat ward der Engel Gabriel von Gott in eine Stadt in Galiläa namens Nazareth gesandt
Then, in the sixth month, the Angel Gabriel was sent by God, to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
27 zu einer Jungfrau, die verlobt war mit einem Manne namens Joseph. Er stammte aus dem Hause David; der Name der Jungfrau war Maria.
to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary.
28 Er der Engel trat zu ihr hinein und sprach: "Gegrüßet seist du, Gnadenvolle; der Herr ist mit dir." Du bist gebenedeit unter den Weibern.
And upon entering, the Angel said to her: “Hail, full of grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women.”
29 Sie ward verwirrt ob dieser Rede und dachte nach, was dieser Gruß bedeute.
And when she had heard this, she was disturbed by his words, and she considered what kind of greeting this might be.
30 Der Engel aber sprach zu ihr: "Fürchte dich nicht, Maria; denn du hast bei Gott Gnade gefunden.
And the Angel said to her: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace with God.
31 Siehe, du wirst empfangen und einen Sohn gebären, und du sollst ihm den Namen Jesus geben.
Behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and you shall bear a son, and you shall call his name: JESUS.
32 Er wird groß sein und Sohn des Allerhöchsten heißen; Gott, der Herr, wird ihm den Thron seines Vaters David geben,
He will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father.
33 und er wird herrschen über das Haus Jakob in Ewigkeit, und seines Reiches wird kein Ende sein." (aiōn g165)
And he will reign in the house of Jacob for eternity. And his kingdom shall have no end.” (aiōn g165)
34 Maria sprach zum Engel: "Wie soll das geschehen, da ich keinen Mann erkenne?"
Then Mary said to the Angel, “How shall this be done, since I do not know man?”
35 Der Engel aber sprach zu ihr: "Der Heilige Geist wird auf dich herabkommen, und die Kraft des Allerhöchsten wird dich überschatten. Darum wird auch das Heilige, das geboren wird, Sohn Gottes heißen.
And in response, the Angel said to her: “The Holy Spirit will pass over you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. And because of this also, the Holy One who will be born of you shall be called the Son of God.
36 Siehe, auch deine Base Elisabeth hat in ihrem Alter einen Sohn empfangen, und dies ist schon der sechste Monat bei ihr, die für unfruchtbar gehalten wird.
And behold, your cousin Elizabeth has herself also conceived a son, in her old age. And this is the sixth month for her who is called barren.
37 Bei Gott ist nichts unmöglich."
For no word will be impossible with God.”
38 Da sprach Maria: "Siehe, ich bin die Magd des Herrn; mir geschehe nach deinem Wort." Und der Engel schied von ihr.
Then Mary said: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word.” And the Angel departed from her.
39 In jenen Tagen machte sich Maria auf und eilte ins Gebirge nach einer Stadt in Juda.
And in those days, Mary, rising up, traveled quickly into the hill country, to a city of Judah.
40 Und sie betrat das Haus des Zacharias und grüßte Elisabeth.
And she entered into the house of Zechariah, and she greeted Elizabeth.
41 Sobald Elisabeth den Gruß Marias vernahm, frohlockte das Kind in ihrem Schoße. Da ward Elisabeth vom Heiligen Geiste erfüllt
And it happened that, as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 und rief mit lauter Stimme: "Du bist gebenedeit unter den Weibern, und gebenedeit ist die Frucht deines Leibes.
And she cried out with a loud voice and said: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
43 Womit habe ich verdient, daß die Mutter meines Herrn zu mir kommt?
And how does this concern me, so that the mother of my Lord would come to me?
44 Denn siehe, sobald der Klang deines Grußes mein Ohr berührte, frohlockte jubelnd das Kind in meinem Schoße.
For behold, as the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
45 Selig, die geglaubt hat, daß das in Erfüllung gehen werde, was ihr vom Herrn gesagt ward."
And blessed are you who believed, for the things that were spoken to you by the Lord shall be accomplished.”
46 Da sprach Maria: "Hoch preist meine Seele den Herrn,
And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord.
47 mein Geist frohlockt in Gott, meinem Heiland,
And my spirit leaps for joy in God my Savior.
48 weil er die Demut seiner Magd geschaut; denn siehe, fortan preisen mich selig alle Geschlechter.
For he has looked with favor on the humility of his handmaid. For behold, from this time, all generations shall call me blessed.
49 Denn Großes hat an mir getan der Mächtige; und heilig ist sein Name.
For he who is great has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
50 Und sein Erbarmen waltet von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht für jene, die ihn fürchten.
And his mercy is from generation to generations for those who fear him.
51 Er wirket Mächtiges mit seinem Arm; zerstreut, die stolz in ihrem Herzen denken.
He has accomplished powerful deeds with his arm. He has scattered the arrogant in the intentions of their heart.
52 Herab stürzt er Gewalthaber von Thronen und erhöht Niedrige;
He has deposed the powerful from their seat, and he has exalted the humble.
53 mit Gütern sättigt er die Darbenden; doch Reiche läßt er leer ausgehen.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.
54 Er hat sich angenommen Israels, seines Knechtes, in der Erinnerung an sein Erbarmen -
He has taken up his servant Israel, mindful of his mercy,
just as he spoke to our fathers: to Abraham and to his offspring forever.” (aiōn g165)
56 Maria blieb etwa drei Monate bei ihr. Dann kehrte sie in ihr Haus zurück.
Then Mary stayed with her for about three months. And she returned to her own house.
57 Es kam nun für Elisabeth die Zeit der Niederkunft, und sie gebar einen Sohn.
Now the time for Elizabeth to give birth arrived, and she brought forth a son.
58 Als ihre Nachbarn und Verwandten hörten, daß ihr der Herr so großes Erbarmen gezeigt hatte, da freuten sie sich mit ihr.
And her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy with her, and so they congratulated her.
59 Am achten Tage kamen sie, um das Kind zu beschneiden, und wollten ihm den Namen seines Vaters Zacharias geben.
And it happened that, on the eighth day, they arrived to circumcise the boy, and they called him by his father’s name, Zechariah.
60 Doch seine Mutter sprach: "Nein, Johannes soll es heißen."
And in response, his mother said: “Not so. Instead, he shall be called John.”
61 Man sprach zu ihr: "In deiner Verwandtschaft ist doch niemand, der diesen Namen trägt."
And they said to her, “But there is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”
62 Nun winkten sie dem Vater, wie er es genannt wissen wolle.
Then they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him to be called.
63 Er verlangte eine Schreibtafel und schrieb die Worte darauf: "Johannes ist sein Name." Da staunten alle.
And requesting a writing tablet, he wrote, saying: “His name is John.” And they all wondered.
64 Im selben Augenblick ward sein Mund geöffnet, und seine Zunge ward gelöst; er konnte wieder reden und pries Gott.
Then, at once, his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosened, and he spoke, blessing God.
65 Da kam Furcht über alle Nachbarn, und im Gebirge von Judäa sprach man überall von allen diesen Dingen.
And fear fell upon all of their neighbors. And all these words were made known throughout all the hill country of Judea.
66 Und alle, die sie hörten, erwogen sie in ihrem Herzen; sie sagten: "Was mag aus diesem Kinde werden?" Und wirklich war die Hand des Herrn mit ihm.
And all those who heard it stored it up in their heart, saying: “What do you think this boy will be?” And indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 Sein Vater Zacharias aber ward vom Heiligen Geist erfüllt und sprach wie ein Prophet:
And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit. And he prophesied, saying:
68 "Gepriesen sei der Herr, der Gott Israels; heimgesucht hat er sein Volk und ihm Erlösung bereitet,
“Blessed is the Lord God of Israel. For he has visited and has wrought the redemption of his people.
69 ein Horn des Heils uns aufgerichtet im Hause Davids, seines Knechtes,
And he has raised up a horn of salvation for us, in the house of David his servant,
just as he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, who are from ages past: (aiōn g165)
71 von unsern Feinden uns zu retten, aus der Hand all derer, die uns hassen;
salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all those who hate us,
72 Barmherzigkeit unsern Vätern zu erweisen und seines heiligen Bundes zu gedenken,
to accomplish mercy with our fathers, and to call to mind his holy testament,
73 des Eides, den er unserm Vater Abraham geschworen: Er wolle uns verleihen,
the oath, which he swore to Abraham, our father, that he would grant to us,
74 daß wir aus unserer Feinde Hand errettet,
so that, having been freed from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear,
75 ihm furchtlos dienen in Heiligkeit und Gerechtigkeit dank seiner Gnade alle Tage unsres Lebens.
in holiness and in justice before him, throughout all our days.
76 Und du, Kind, wirst ein Prophet des Höchsten heißen; denn du wirst vor dem Herrn einhergehen, ihm seine Wege zu bereiten,
And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High. For you will go before the face of the Lord: to prepare his ways,
77 um sein Volk zur Erkenntnis zu führen, daß das Heil in der Vergebung seiner Sünden liege
to give knowledge of salvation to his people for the remission of their sins,
78 dank des herzlichen Erbarmens unsres Gottes, womit uns heimgesucht das Licht aus der Höhe,
through the heart of the mercy of our God, by which, descending from on high, he has visited us,
79 um denen aufzuleuchten, die in Finsternis und Todesschatten sitzen, und unsre Schritte auf des Friedens Pfad zu lenken."
to illuminate those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to direct our feet in the way of peace.”
80 Der Knabe wuchs und ward stark im Geiste. Er lebte in der Einsamkeit bis zu dem Tage, da er Israel sich zeigen sollte.
And the child grew, and he was strengthened in spirit. And he was in the wilderness, until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
