Richter 1

1 Und nach Josues Tode fragten die Söhne Israels den Herrn: "Wer von uns soll zuerst in den Kampf wider die Kanaaniter ziehen?"

And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?

2 Da sprach der Herr: "Juda soll hinziehen! Ich gebe das Land in seine Hand."

And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.

3 Da sprach Juda zu seinem Bruder Simeon: "Zieh mit mir in mein Losteil! Wir wollen wider die Kanaaniter streiten. Dann ziehe auch ich mit dir in dein Losteil." Und Simeon zog mit ihm.

Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.

4 Juda zog nun hin, und der Herr gab die Kanaaniter und die Periziter in seine Hand. Sie schlugen diese bei Bezek, 10.000 Mann.

And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.

5 In Bezek stießen sie auf den Zepterträger, kämpften mit ihm und schlugen die Kanaaniter und Periziter.

And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 Der Zepterträger jedoch floh. Sie aber jagten ihm nach, griffen ihn und hieben ihm die Daumen und die großen Zehen ab.

But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.

7 Da sprach der Zepterträger: "Siebzig Könige mit abgehauenen Daumen und Zehen haben unter meinem Tische aufgelesen. Wie ich getan, so hat mir Gott vergolten." Dann brachten sie ihn nach Jerusalem, und er erlitt dort den Tod.

Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.

8 Judas Söhne kämpften nämlich gegen Jerusalem, eroberten es und schlugen es mit des Schwertes Schärfe und steckten die Stadt in Brand.

And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.

9 Danach zogen Judas Söhne zum Kampfe gegen die Kanaaniter hinab, die das Gebirge, das Südland und die Niederung bewohnten.

And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.

10 Und Juda zog gegen die Kanaaniter in Hebron. Hebron aber hieß vormals Kirjat Arba. Sie schlugen Sesai, Achiman und Talmai.

And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 Von dort zogen sie gegen Debirs Einwohner. Debir hieß vormals Kirjat Sepher.

And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.

12 Und Kaleb sprach: "Wer Kirjat Sepher bezwingt und einnimmt, dem gebe ich meine Tochter Aksa zum Weibe."

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.

13 Da nahm es des Kenaz Sohn Otniel, Kalebs jüngerer Bruder. Da gab er ihm seine Tochter Aksa zum Weibe.

Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.

14 Als sie hinzog, überlistete sie ihren Vater, da sie von ihm ein Feld wollte. Sie neigte sich nämlich vom Esel, so daß Kaleb sie fragte: "Was ist dir?"

And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?

15 Sie aber sprach zu ihm: "Gib mir doch eine Abschiedsgabe! Du vergibst mich ja nach dem Südland. So gib mir Wasser!" Da gab ihr Kaleb oberirdische und unterirdische Wasserstellen.

And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.

16 Die Söhne des Keniters, des Schwiegervaters Mosis, waren aus der Palmenstadt zu den Söhnen Judas nach der Wüste Juda im Rücken Arads hinauf gezogen. Diese aber zogen ab und verpflanzten das Volk.

Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.

17 Auch Juda zog mit seinem Bruder Simeon weiter. Sie schlugen die Kanaaniter zu Sephat und bannten es. Daher nannte man die Stadt Chorma.

Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.

18 Dann eroberte Juda Gaza, Askalon und Ekron je mit ihrem Gebiet.

And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.

19 Und der Herr war mit Juda, und es besetzte das Gebirge; die Talbewohner nämlich konnte es nicht vertreiben, weil sie eiserne Wagen hatten.

And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.

20 Sie gaben nun Hebron dem Kaleb, wie es Moses befohlen. Und er vertrieb daraus die Enaksöhne.

So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.

21 Auch die Benjaminiten konnten die Jebusiter, Jerusalems Insassen, nicht vertreiben. So blieben die Jebusiter bei den Söhnen Benjamins bis auf diesen Tag.

But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.

22 Auch die vom Hause Josephs zogen gegen Betel, und der Herr war mit ihnen.

Then went up the house of Joseph—they also, —unto Bethel, —and, Yahweh, was with them.

23 Die vom Hause Josephs ließen nun Betel ausspähen. Die Stadt aber hieß vordem Luz.

And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.

24 Die Kundschafter sahen nun einen Mann aus der Stadt kommen und sagten zu ihm: "Zeig uns den Zugang zur Stadt! Wir erweisen dir dafür Gutes."

So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.

25 Da zeigte er ihnen den Zugang zur Stadt. Und sie schlugen die Stadt mit des Schwertes Schärfe. Den Mann aber ließen sie mit seiner ganzen Familie ziehen.

And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.

26 Da ging der Mann in das Chittiterland, baute eine Stadt und nannte sie Luz. So heißt sie bis auf diesen Tag.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, —and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.

27 Auch Manasse vertrieb nicht die Bewohner von Bet Sean, Taanak, Ibleam, Megiddo und ihren Dörfern. Den Kanaanitern nämlich gelang es, in diesem Lande zu bleiben.

But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;

28 Als aber Israel erstarkte, machte es die Kanaaniter zinsbar, vertrieb sie aber nicht ganz.

when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute, —though they, dispossessed, them not.

29 Auch Ephraim vertrieb nicht die kanaanitischen Insassen von Gezer. So blieben die Kanaaniter mitten unter ihm zu Gezer.

And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer, —so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.

30 Auch Zabulon vertrieb nicht die Insassen von Kitron noch die von Nahalol. So blieben die Kanaaniter mitten unter ihm, wurden aber zinsbar.

Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, —but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.

31 Asser vertrieb nicht die Insassen von Akko und die von Sidon, Achlab, Akzib, Helba, Aphik und Rechob.

Asher, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, —nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;

32 So wohnten Assers Söhne mitten unter Kanaanitern, die im Lande blieben, weil man sie nicht vertrieb.

but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —for they dispossessed them not.

33 Naphtali vertrieb nicht die Insassen von Bet Semes noch die von Bet Anat. So wohnte es mitten unter den Kanaanitern, die im Lande blieben. Doch wurden die Einwohner von Bet Semes und Bet Anat ihnen zinsbar.

Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.

34 Die Amoriter aber drängten Dans Söhne auf das Gebirge; denn sie ließen sie nicht in die Ebene ziehen.

And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;

35 So gelang es den Amoritern, in Har Cheres, Ajjalon und Saalbin zu bleiben. Als aber die Macht des Josephhauses erstarkte, wurden sie zinsbar.

and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.

36 Das Amoritergebiet aber erstreckte sich von der Skorpionensteige, von dem Felsengebirge, weiter hinauf.

And, the boundary of the Amorites, was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upwards.
