Job 36
1 Elihu fuhr nun weiter fort:
And Elius further continued, and said,
2 "Ein wenig warte noch, daß ich dich unterweise! Denn noch spricht manches auch für Gott.
Wait for me yet a little while, that I may teach you: for there is yet speech in me.
3 Ich muß nur meinen Vortrag weiter ausdehnen; doch werde ich mein Tun rechtfertigen.
Having fetched my knowledge from afar, and according to my works,
4 Denn nimmer sollen meine Worte dich enttäuschen, die ich an dich, Rechthaber, richte.
I will speak just things truly, and you shall not unjustly receive unjust words.
5 Sieh, Gott ist fest und widerspricht sich nicht; er ist durchaus von festem Sinn.
But know that the Lord will not cast off an innocent man: being mighty in strength of wisdom,
6 Er schenkt dem Frevler nicht das Leben; dem Armen aber gibt er Recht.
he will not by any means save alive the ungodly: and he will grant the judgement of the poor.
7 Von Frommen zieht er nicht die Augen ab; sogar mit Königen läßt er auf dem Thron sie sitzen, in Pracht und Herrlichkeit, und werden sie dann stolz,
He will not turn away his eyes from the righteous, but [they shall be] with kings on the throne: and he will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted.
8 so legt man sie in Ketten, und sie werden so gefesselt in des Elends Stricken.
But they that are bound in fetters shall be holden in cords of poverty.
9 Dann hält er ihnen vor ihr Treiben, ihre Sünden, daß sie stolz geworden.
And he shall recount to them their works, and their transgressions, for such will act with violence.
10 Und so tut er ihr Ohr der Warnung auf und heißt sie umkehren von Sünden.
But he will listen to the righteous: and he has said that they shall turn from unrighteousness.
11 Gehorchen sie in Unterwürfigkeit, dann fließen ihre Tage in Glückseligkeit, in Wonne ihre Jahre hin.
If they should hear and serve [him], they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in honour.
12 Doch wenn sie nicht gehorchen, rennen sie ins Dunkle und sie sterben in Verblendung.
But he preserves not the ungodly; because they are not willing to know the Lord, and because when reproved they were disobedient.
13 Ruchlose Leute aber wecken Zorn und rufen nicht um Hilfe, wenn er sie fesselt.
And the hypocrites in heart will array wrath [against themselves]; they will not cry, because he has bound them.
14 Hin stirbt so in der Jugendfrische ihre Seele, ihr Leben in der Vollkraft.
Therefore let their soul die in youth, and their life be wounded by messengers [of death].
15 In seinem Elend rettet er den Armen, dieweil er in der Not ihr Ohr eröffnet.
Because they afflicted the weak and helpless: and he will vindicate the judgement of the meek.
16 Er lockt auch dich aus der Bedrängnis Rachen. An ihre Stelle träte Freiheit, unbeengt, und deines Tisches Schüssel würde voll von Fett.
And he has also enticed you out of the mouth of the enemy:
17 Bist du von frevelhaftem Urteil aber voll, dann trifft auch dich gerechtes Urteil.
[there is] a deep gulf [and] a rushing stream beneath it, and your table came down full of fatness. Judgement shall not fail from the righteous;
18 Denn Zorn verführe dich nicht zu dem Übermaße, der Streit um Lösung soll dich nicht verleiten.
but there shall be wrath upon the ungodly, by reason of the ungodliness of the bribes which they received for iniquities.
19 Wird's dein Geschrei in Ordnung bringen? Unnötig sind ja all die Kraftanstrengungen.
Let not [your] mind willingly turn you aside from the petition of the feeble that are in distress.
20 Nicht wünsche dir die Nacht herbei! An ihre Stelle treten Unruhen.
And draw not forth all the mighty [men] by night, so that the people should go up instead of them.
21 Nimm dich in acht und kehre nimmer dich dem Frevel zu! Du hast dazu mehr Lust als zu dem Leiden.
But take heed lest you do that which is wrong: for of this you has made choice because of poverty.
22 Sieh, Gott ist groß in seiner Macht. Wer ist ein Lehrer gleich wie er?
Behold, the Mighty One shall prevail by his strength: for who is powerful as he is?
23 Wer stellt ihn über seinen Weg zur Rede? Wer sagt nur: 'Du hast schlecht gehandelt'?
And who is he that examines his works? or who can say, he has wrought injustice?
24 Bedenk, daß du sein Tun des Irrtums zeihst, das andere in Lobliedern besingen!
Remember that his works are great [beyond] those which men have attempted.
25 Und alle Menschen haben ihre Lust daran; die Sterblichen betrachten es seit fernsten Zeiten.
Every man has seen in himself, how many mortals are wounded.
26 Sieh, Gott ist alt, weit über unsere Begriffe, und unerforschlich seiner Jahre Zahl.
Behold, the Mighty One is great, and we shall not know [him]: the number of his years is even infinite.
27 Er zählt die Wassertropfen ab, daß sie in seinen Nebel hin als Regen sickern,
And the drops of rain are numbered by him, and shall be poured out in rain to form a cloud.
28 den Wolken rieseln lassen, auf viele Menschen niederträufelnd.
The ancient [heavens] shall flow, and the clouds overshadow innumerable mortals: he has fixed a time to cattle, and they know the order of rest. [Yet] by all these things your understanding is not astonished, neither is your mind disturbed in [your] body.
29 Wer vollends hätte Einsicht in der Wolken Weite, in das Gedröhne seines Wohngezeltes,
And though one should understand the outspreadings of the clouds, [or] the measure of his tabernacle;
30 wenn er darin sein Rollen weithin tönen läßt und dann des Meeres Quellen niederrinnen?
behold he will stretch his bow against him, and he covers the bottom of the sea.
31 Denn damit gibt er Völkern Nahrung, stellt Speise her in großer Menge.
For by them he will judge the nations: he will give food to him that has strength.
32 Er birgt den Blitzstrahl in den Händen, befiehlt ihm, wo er einzuschlagen hat.
He has hidden the light in [his] hands, and given charge concerning it to the interposing [cloud].
33 Er zeigt ihm seinen Freund; den Frevler aber läßt er ihn durchbohren."
The Lord will declare concerning this [to] his friend: [but there is] a portion also for unrighteousness.
