Job 26

1 Darauf erwidert Job und spricht:

But Job answered and said,

2 "Wie trefflich hilfst du doch dem Schwachen und stärkst den Arm den Kraftlosen!

To whom dost thou attach thyself, or whom art thou going to assist? is it not he that [has] much strength, and [he] who has a strong arm?

3 Welch feinen Rat gibst du der Unweisheit und offenbarst dem Zweifler soviel Kluges!

To whom hast thou given counsel? is it not to him who has all wisdom? whom wilt thou follow? is it not one who has the greatest power?

4 Wen hast du denn belehren wollen? Und wessen Geist geht von dir aus?

To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose breath is it that has come forth from thee?

5 Die Schatten in der Unterwelt geraten außer sich, die Wasser und die sie bewohnen. -

Shall giants be born from under the water and the inhabitants thereof?

6 Die Unterwelt liegt nackt vor ihm und hüllenlos das Totenreich. (Sheol h7585)

Hell is naked before him, and destruction has no covering. (Sheol h7585)

7 Er spannt den Bären aus im Leeren und läßt die Erde schweben überm Nichts.

He stretches out the north wind upon nothing, and he upon nothing hangs the earth;

8 Gewässer bindet er in seine Wolken; nicht reißt darunter das Gewölk.

binding water in his clouds, and the cloud is not rent under it.

9 Er überzieht des Vollmonds Scheibe, darüber breitend sein Gewölk.

He keeps back the face of his throne, stretching out his cloud upon it.

10 Und eine Grenze zieht er über den Gewässern, dort wo sich treffen Licht und Finsternis.

He has encompassed the face of the water by an appointed ordinance, until the end of light and darkness.

11 Des Himmels feste Säulen schwanken; vor seinem Drohen wanken sie.

The pillars of heaven are prostrate and astonished at his rebuke.

12 Durch seine Kraft weckt er den Ozean; sein Ungestüm bricht er durch seine Klugheit.

He has calmed the sea with [his] might, and by [his] wisdom the whale has been overthrown.

13 Durch seinen Geist besteht des Himmels Schöne, und seine Hand erschuf die flücht'ge Schlange.

And the barriers of heaven fear him, and by a command he has slain the apostate dragon.

14 Das sind nur seines Waltens Säume und nur ein Weniges, was wir so von ihm hören. Wer kann da erst die Donnersprache seiner Allgewalt verstehen?"

Behold, these are parts of his way; and we will hearken to him at the least intimation of his word: but the strength of his thunder who knows, when he shall employ [it]?
