Job 13
1 "So ist's. So hat's mein Auge auch gesehen, mein Ohr vernommen und gemerkt.
Lo, mine eye hath seen all [this], mine ear hath heard and understood it.
2 Soviel ihr wisset, weiß ich auch; ich falle gegen euch nicht ab.
What ye know, [the same] do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.
3 Nun will ich mit dem Allerhöchsten reden; mit Gott zu rechten ich begehre.
Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.
4 Ihr freilich, ihr seid Lügenmeister, unnütze Ärzte insgesamt.
But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.
5 Wenn ihr nur endlich schweigen wolltet und das für euch zur Weisheit würde!
Oh that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.
6 Auf meine Widerrede hört! Aufmerket auf den Vorwurf meiner Lippen!
Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
7 Wollt ihr für Gott Verkehrtes reden und ihm zuliebe Lügen sprechen?
Will ye speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him?
8 Wollt ihr für ihn Partei ergreifen, gar Anwalt sein für Gott?
Will ye respect his person? will ye contend for God?
9 Wenn er euch richtet, geht's dann gut? Wollt ihr ihn narren, wie man Menschen narrt?
Is it good that he should search you out? or as one deceiveth a man, will ye deceive him?
10 Er gibt euch scharfen Tadel, wenn hinterrücks Partei ihr nehmet.
He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly respect persons.
11 Wird euch nicht seine Hoheit betäuben; befällt euch nicht sein Schrecken?
Shall not his excellency make you afraid, and his dread fall upon you?
12 Zerstäubt sind euere Beweise, und euere Bekräftigungen sind gar tönern.
Your memorable sayings [are] proverbs of ashes, your defences [are] defences of clay.
13 Vor mir nur schweigt! Denn ich muß reden. Es komme über mich, was wolle!
Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what wilt.
14 Warum soll ich mein Fleisch in meine Zähne nehmen? Ich lege auf die flache Hand mein Leben.
Wherefore should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?
15 Ja, mag er mich auch töten; ich zittere nicht davor; auf jeden Fall will ich vor ihm verteidigen meinen Wandel.
Though he slay me, yet will I wait for him: nevertheless I will maintain my ways before him.
16 Da muß er selber mir zum Sieg verhelfen; vor ihn kommt ja kein Ruchloser.
This also shall be my salvation; for a godless man shall not come before him.
17 Aufmerksam hört auf meine Rede! Ich will's euch selbst beweisen.
Hear diligently my speech, and let my declaration be in your ears.
18 Ich lege meinen Rechtsfall vor. Ich weiß gewiß, ich werd's gewinnen.
Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I am righteous.
19 Kann einer etwas gegen mich beweisen, ich würde schweigend willig sterben.
Who is he that will contend with me? for now shall I hold my peace and give up the ghost.
20 Nur zweierlei tu mir nicht an! Sonst muß ich mich vor Deinem Antlitz bergen:
Only do not two things unto me, then will I not hide myself from thy face:
21 Stell Deine Macht vor mir beiseite! Und Deine Furchtbarkeit erschrecke nimmer mich!
Withdraw thine hand far from me; and let not thy terror make me afraid.
22 Dann klage Du, und ich will mich verteidigen. Dann rede ich; Du aber widerlege mich!
Then call thou, and I will answer; or let me speak, and answer thou me.
23 Wie groß ist meine Schuld und mein Vergehen? Mein ganzes Unrecht laß mich wissen!
How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.
24 Warum birgst Du Dein Angesicht, erachtest mich für Deinen Feind?
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?
25 Ein welkes Blatt, das schreckst Du auf. Dem dürren Strohhalm jagst Du nach.
Wilt thou harass a driven leaf? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?
26 Du rechnest mir Vergangenes auf und weisest mir die Jugendsünden nach.
For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to inherit the iniquities of my youth:
27 Du legst mir meine Füße in den Block, verwahrst mir alle Schritte; um meine Fußgelenke ziehst Du einen Ring. -
Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and markest all my paths; thou drawest thee a line about the soles of my feet:
28 Er aber gleicht dem Wurmfraß, der in Stücke fällt, und einem Kleid, an dem die Motte zehrt."
Though I am like a rotten thing that consumeth, like a garment that is moth-eaten.
