1 So spricht der Herr: "Wo ist nur eurer Mutter Scheidebrief, mit dem ich sie verstoßen hätte? Wer ist mein Gläubiger, an den ich euch verkauft? Für eure Missetaten wurdet ihr verkauft; um eurer Sünden willen wurde eure Mutter fortgeschickt.

2 Warum war niemand da, als ich erschien? Warum gab niemand Antwort, als ich rief? Ist meine Hand zu kurz zum Helfen? Bin ich zu schwach zum Retten? Mit meinem Machtwort trockne ich das Meer aus, in Steppen wandle ich die Ströme, und ihre Fische faulen, weil das Wasser mangelt, und sterben hier vor Durst.

4 Der Herr, der Herr verlieh mir eine Jüngerzunge, damit den Müden ich durch Zuspruch anzuregen wüßte. An jedem Morgen weckt er mich durch's Ohr, daß ich aufhorche wie ein Schüler.

5 Der Herr, der Herr macht offen mir das Ohr; ich widerstrebe nicht und weiche nicht.

6 Den Schlagenden biet ich den Rücken dar und meine Wangen meinen Quälern, mein Angesicht verhüll ich nicht vor Schmähung und Bespeiung.

7 Der Herr, der Herr steht selbst mir bei; ich werde deshalb nicht zuschanden. Drum mache ich mein Antlitz kieselgleich; ich weiß, ich werde nicht zuschanden.

8 Der mir zu meinem Recht verhilft, ist nahe. Wer ist's, der mit mir streiten will? So treten wir zusammen vor. Wer ist's, der mich verklagen will? Er trete her zu mir!

10 Ist einer unter euch, der vor dem Herrn sich fürchtet und noch auf seines Dieners Stimme hört? Nur einer, der des Herren Namen traut und sich auf seinen Gott verläßt, wenn er im Finstern wandelt und keinen Lichtstrahl sieht? -
