Jesaja 29

1 Ach Ariel! O Ariel! Du Stadt, die David einst belagert! Ein Jahr nur laßt vorüber, den Festeskreis zu Ende sein!

Alas for Ariel, Ariel, The city against which, David encamped, —Add ye a year to a year. Let the festivals, come round;

2 Dann will ich Ariel bedrängen, daß Klage, Weheklage werde: "Mir geht's wie Ariel."

Yet will I bring Ariel into straits, —And she shall become a bewailing and wailing, Yea she shall become to me a veritable Hearth of God.

3 Ich lagere wider dich wie David und schließe dich mit einem Walle ein und baue Schanzen gegen dich.

And I will encamp round about against thee, —And lay siege against thee with a fort, And raise against thee siege-works;

4 Dann sprichst du demütig vom Boden her und lässest aus dem Staub die Rede tief gedämpft ertönen. Wie eines Erdgeists Stimme wird die deine, und aus dem Staube flüsterst du die Worte.

And thou shalt be brought low—Out of the earth, shalt thou speak, And out of the dust, shalt thou lower thine utterance, —And as one that hath a familiar spirit, Out of the earth, shall come thy voice, And out of the dust, thy speech shall chirp;

5 Doch wird dem dünnen Staube gleich die Menge deiner Feinde, wie Spreu, die hinfährt, wird der Wüteriche Schar. Und plötzlich wird's, urplötzlich.

Then shall be as fine dust the multitude of thy foreigners, —And as chaff that passeth away, the multitude of tyrants; And it shall come to pass, in a twinkling, Suddenly,

6 Gezüchtigt wird sie von dem Herrn der Heeresscharen bei Donnern, Dröhnen, lautem Schall, bei Sturmgebraus und Wirbelwind und bei gefräßiger Feuerlohe.

From Yahweh of hosts, shalt thou be visited, With thunder, and with earthquake and a great noise, hurricane and storm and flame of fire devouring;

7 So wird zum Traum, zum nächtlichen Gesicht die Menge aller Heidenvölker, die Ariel bekämpfen, und alle ihre Posten, ihre Schanzen, ihre Stürmer.

And it shall be like the dream of a night vision, With the multitude of all the nations who have been making war against Ariel, —Even with all who have been making war against her and her stronghold and who have been laying siege to her;

8 So wird's, wie wenn dem Hungrigen es träumt, er esse, und wacht er auf, ist seine Gier noch ungestillt. Wie wenn der Durstige träumt, er trinke, und wacht er auf, dann ist er matt, und seine Gier noch lechzend. So geht's dem Schwarme aller Heidenvölker, die gegen Sions Berg sich scharen.

Yea it shall be As when the hungry man dreameth and lo! he is eating, But he awaketh, and his soul, is empty, Or as when the thirsty man dreameth and lo! he is drinking, But he awaketh and lo! he is faint and his soul, is craving, So, shall it be with the multitude of all the nations, that have come forth to war against Mount Zion.

9 Nur still und starr! Erblindet und verblendet euch! Seid trunken, aber nicht vom Wein, und taumelt, aber nicht vom Biere.

Stand ye stock still and stare, Besmear your eyes and be blind, —They are drunken but not with wine, They reel, but not with strong drink;

10 Es gieße über euch der Herr den Geist der Schlafsucht aus und drücke eure Augen, die Propheten, zu und hülle eure Häupter ein, die Seher!

For Yahweh, hath poured out upon you, a spirit of deep sleep, Yea hath tightly shut your eyes—the prophets, —And, your heads—the seers, hath he covered,

11 Doch das Gesicht von alledem sei euch gleich einem Buch mit sieben Siegeln. Gib's einem Mann, der lesen kann, und sag dabei: "Da, lies dies doch!", dann sagt er drauf: "Das kann ich nicht; es ist versiegelt.

And so all vision hath become unto you as the words of a writing that is sealed, Which is delivered unto one acquainted with writing, saying, Pray thee read this, And he saith, I cannot, for it is sealed;

12 Doch gibst du einem, der nicht lesen kann, das Buch, und sagst dabei: "Lies dies!", dann sagt er drauf: "Ich kann ja überhaupt nicht lesen."

And then the writing is delivered to one unacquainted with writing, saying, Pray thee read this, And he saith I am not acquainted with writing.

13 So spricht der Herr: "Im Munde nur führt mich dies Volk; nur mit den Lippen ehrt es mich; doch fern hält es von mir sein Herz, und die Verehrung, die sie mir erweisen, besteht in angelernten Menschenformeln.

Wherefore My Lord hath said, —Because this people, hath drawn near with their mouth, And with their lips, have honoured me, But their heart, have they moved far from me, And so their reverence of me hath become A commandment of men in which they have been schooled,

14 Drum handle ich an diesem Volke noch einmal rätselvoll und wundersam. Die Weisheit seiner Weisen soll dran scheitern, die Klugheit seiner Klugen sich verbergen!"

Therefore, behold me! again dealing wonderfully with this people, doing wonderfully a wonderful thing, —So shall perish, the wisdom of their wise men, And the intelligence of their intelligent men, shall vanish!

15 Ein Wehe denen, die so tief die Pläne vor dem Herrn verbergen wollen und die ihr Werk im Finstern treiben, sprechend: "Wer beachtet uns? Wer merkt auf uns?"

Alas! for them who would fain have been too deep for Yahweh by giving secret counsel, —and therefore in the dark, have been their doings, and they have said Who can see us? and—Who can understand us?

16 Verderben komme über euch. Ist denn dem Lehm der Töpfer gleich zu achten? Darf eine Arbeit sagen über den, der sie getan: "Der hat mich nicht getan?" Und ein Gebilde von dem Bildner: "Der hat mich nicht ersonnen?"

Your perverseness! As if like clay, the potter could be reckoned; For shall, the thing made say of him that made it, he made me not? Or hath the thing fashioned ever said of him that fashioned it, He hath no understanding.

17 Ist's nicht noch eine kurze, kleine Weile? Dann wird der Libanon zu einem Garten, und für Gestrüpp gehalten wird der Garten.

Is it not yet a very little while, And Lebanon shall be turned, into garden land, —And garden land, for a forest, be reckoned?

18 An jenem Tag verstehen selbst die Tauben die vorgelesenen Worte. Der Blinden Augen können sehen, von Dunkelheit und Finsternis befreit.

Therefore, in that day, shall the deaf hear the words of a book, —And out of gloom and darkness, the eyes of the blind shall see;

19 Die Dulder aber freuen sich des Herrn aufs neue; der Menschen Ärmste jubeln ob des Heiligen Israels,

And again shall the humbled in Yahweh, have joy, —And the needy of mankind in the Holy One of Israel, exult;

20 wenn fort die Wüteriche sind und wenn es aus ist mit den Spöttern und wenn getilgt wird, wer auf Bosheit lauert, und ausgerottet,

For the tyrant, hath vanished, And the scoffer, is no more, Yea cut off are all who watch for iniquity: —

21 wer mit Worten schlecht die Leute macht, dem Richter im Gerichtstor Schlingen legt, Unschuldige durch falsche Gründe ins Unrecht setzt.

Who bring a man into condemnation with a rumour, And for him that decideth in the gate, lay a snare, —And have driven away, for a thing of nought, one who was righteous.

22 Drum spricht der Herr zu Jakobs Haus, er, der den Abraham befreit: "Fortan wird Jakob nimmermehr sich schämen, sein Antlitz nimmermehr erblassen.

Therefore, Thus, saith Yahweh, concerning the house of Jacob, [even he saith it] who redeemed Abraham, —Not now, shall, Jacob turn pale, And, not now, shall their faces whiten;

23 Wenn es in seiner Mitte die Kinder, meiner Hände Werk, erblickt, so heiligen sie meinen Namen. - Sie heiligen Jakobs Heiligen, erschauern vor dem Gotte Israels.

For, when he seeth his children the work of my hands, in his midst, They will hallow my Name, —Yea they will hallow the Holy One of Jacob, And the God of Israel, will they regard with awe.

24 Zur Einsicht kommen Geistesirre, und Murrende erlernen Einsicht."

Then will they who erred in spirit comprehend, And the murmurers, accept instruction.
