Hosea 9

1 Der Freude überlaß dich nimmer, Israel, und juble nicht wie andere Völker! Du hast ja buhlend deinen Gott verlassen und dich am Buhlerlohn erfreut auf allen korngefüllten Tennen.

Do not rejoice, O Israel, with exultation, like the peoples, for thou hast gone away unchastely from beside thy God, —thou hast loved a present, upon all the threshing-floors of corn!

2 "Die Tenne und die Kelter nähren sie nicht mehr. Der neue Wein läßt sie im Stich."

Threshing-floor and wine-vat, will not feed them, and, new wine, will deny them.

3 Sie bleiben nimmermehr im Land des Herrn. Denn Ephraim muß nach Ägypterland zurück; Unreines müssen sie in Assur essen.

They shall not dwell in the land of Yahweh, but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and, in Assyria—that which is unclean, shall they eat.

4 Sie spenden nicht mehr Wein dem Herrn und bringen ihre Opfer ihm nicht mehr. "Sie haben dann nur, was den Trauerspeisen ähnlich. Wer es genießt, wird dadurch unrein." Ihr Brot dient nur zur Stillung ihres Hungers; nicht kommt es mehr ins Haus des Herrn.

They shall not pour out to Yahweh—wine, neither shall they be pleasing to him, their sacrifices, are as the food of mourning to them, all that eat thereof, shall defile themselves, because, their food for their appetite, entereth not into the house of Yahweh.

5 Was wollt ihr am Versammlungstage tun? Und was am Tag des Herrenfestes?

What will ye do, for the day of appointed meeting? and in the day of the festival of Yahweh?

6 Die der Verheerung schon entkommen sind, die hält Ägypten fest, und Memphis wird ihr Grab. Ihr glänzend Schatzhaus wird der Nesseln Erbbesitz, und Disteln sind in ihren Zelten.

For, though they have gone from destruction, yet, Egypt, shall gather them, Memphis, shall bury them, —as for their silver favorites! thistles, shall possess them, thorns in their tents.

7 "Der Strafe Tage sind gekommen, die Tage der Vergeltung angebrochen; sie klagen Israel ob seines Spruches an: 'Ein Tor ist der Prophet; der Geistesmann ist aberwitzig', ob der Größe dieser deiner Sünde, ja, groß war deine Anfeindung."

Come are the days of visitation, come are the days of recompense, Let Israel know! The prophet is foolish, the man of the spirit doth rave, because of the greatness of thine iniquity, therefore great is the prosecution.

8 Der Seher ist der Wächter Ephraims, des Volkes meines Gottes. Auf allen seinen Wegen liegt jetzt eine Vogelstellerschlinge; Anfeindung gibt's sogar im Hause seines Gottes.

The watchman of Ephraim, [should have been] with my God: As for the prophet, the snare of the fowler, is on all his ways, a prosecution [awaiteth him], in the house of his God.

9 So tief sind sie gesunken wie in den Tagen Gibeas. Drum muß er ihrer Schuld gedenken und ihre Sünde ahnden.

They have deeply corrupted themselves, like the days of Gibeah: he will call to mind their iniquity, he will punish their sins.

10 "Wie wilde Trauben in der Wüste fand ich Israel. Wie frühe Feigen an dem Feigenbaum, so sah ich eure Väter an ihrem ersten Anfange. Sie aber gingen zu dem Peorsbaal und weihten sich der Schande; das waren Götzen, wie sie sie liebten.

Like grapes in the desert, found I Israel, like the first-ripe in the fig-tree when it is young, saw I your fathers, —they, entered Baal-peor, and devoted themselves to the Shameful Thing, Then became their abominations like their lusts.

11 Die Menge Ephraims verfliegt nach der Geburt wie Vögel, ja in der Schwangerschaft und schon bei der Empfängnis.

As for Ephraim! like a bird, did their glory, fly away, —no birth, and none with child, no conception.

12 Und zögen sie auch ihre Söhne auf, so mache ich sie kinderlos; denn: 'Jammer über sie, wenn ich von ihnen weiche!'

Yea, though they rear their children, yet will I make them childless, till there be no human being, —for it is, nothing less than woe, to them when I depart from them!

13 O Ephraim! Wie sah ich im Gefilde jenen rohen Felsen, wo sich Ephraim bereit gehalten hat, dem Henker seine Kinder zuzuführen!"

Ephraim! just as I provided for Tyre, was planted in a meadow, —yet, Ephraim, must needs bring forth for a murderer his children.

14 "Gib ihnen, Herr! Was sollst Du geben? Gib ihnen unfruchtbaren Mutterschoß und welke Brust!" -

Give them, O Yahweh—what wilt thou give? Give them, a miscarrying womb, and breasts dried up.

15 "All ihre Schlechtigkeit geschah zu Gilgal; deshalb verstoß ich sie aus meinem Hause ob der Verruchtheit ihrer Werke. Ich kann sie nicht mehr lieben. Abtrünnige sind alle ihre Fürsten.

All their wickedness, is in Gilgal, yea, there, have I come to hate them, For the wickedness of their doings—out of my house, will I drive them forth, —no more will I love them, all their rulers, are unruly.

16 Geschlagen wird jetzt Ephraim. Verdorrt ist seine Wurzel. Sie sollen keine Frucht mehr bringen! Und sollten dennoch sie gebären, so geb ich doch die Leibesfrucht, die sie ersehnen, dem Tode preis."

Smitten is Ephraim, their root, hath dried up, fruit, shall they not bear, —yea, though they do bring forth, yet will I slay the darlings of their womb.

17 Mein Gott verwirft sie ganz und gar, weil sie ihm nicht gehorchen. Drum sind sie flüchtig bei den Heiden.

My God will reject them, because they hearkened not unto him, —that they may become wanderers throughout the nations.
