Esra 10

1 So betete Esdras, bekannte, weinte und flehte vor dem Gotteshause. Da scharte sich eine große Menge aus Israel um ihn, Männer, Weiber und Kinder; denn das Volk weinte bitterlich.

Now, when Ezra had prayed and when he had made confession, weeping and casting himself down, before the house of God, there gathered unto him out of Israel, an exceeding large convocation—men and women and children, for the people wept with a very bitter weeping.

2 Da hob Sekanja, Jechiels Sohn, von Elams Söhnen, an und sprach zu Esdras: "Wir sind untreu geworden unserem Gott, daß wir fremde Weiber von des Landes Völkern heimgeführt. Aber noch ist dabei Hoffnung für Israel.

Then responded Shecaniah son of Jehiel of the sons of Elam, and said unto Ezra, We, have been faithful with our God, and have married foreign women from among the peoples of the land, —yet, now, there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.

3 Wir wollen jetzt einen Bund schließen mit unserem Gott, daß wir alle unsere Frauen und was aus ihnen geboren worden, nach des Herrn Rat entlassen. Wir wollen unseres Gottes Gebot gewissenhaft beachten. Nach der Lehre soll es geschehen!

Now, therefore, let us solemnize a covenant unto our God—to put away all the women and such as have been born of them, in the counsel of my lord, and them who tremble at the commandment of our God, —and, according to the law, let it be done.

4 Steh auf! Denn deine Sache ist es. Wir sind mit dir. Ermanne dich und handle!"

Arise, for, upon thee, resteth the thing, but, we, are with thee, —be strong, and act.

5 Da stand Esdras auf und ließ die Oberen der Priester, die Leviten und ganz Israel schwören, daß sie so tun wollten. Und sie schwuren.

Then arose Ezra and made the rulers of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, swear to do according to this word—and they sware.

6 Esdras stand nun vor dem Gotteshause auf und ging in die Zelle Jochanans, des Eljasibsohnes. Er ging hinein, aß aber kein Brot und trank kein Wasser, trauernd ob des Frevels der Gefangenschaft.

Then arose Ezra from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib, —and, when he came thither, bread, did he not eat, and, water, did he not drink, for he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of them of the Exile.

7 Dann ließen sie einen Ruf ergehen in Juda und Jerusalem an alle Söhne der Gefangenschaft, sie sollten sich in Jerusalem versammeln.

Then made they a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem, unto all the Sons of the Exile, to gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;

8 Wer nicht am dritten Tage nach dem Beschluß der Oberen und Ältesten komme, dessen ganze Habe solle gebannt werden, und er selbst solle aus der Gemeinde der Gefangenschaft ausgeschlossen sein!

and, whosoever should not come within three days, according to the counsel of the rulers and the elders, all his goods should be devoted, —and, himself, be separated from the convocation of them of the Exile.

9 Da versammelten sich zu Jerusalem alle Männer aus Juda und aus Benjamin am dritten Tage, das ist am zwanzigsten des neunten Monats. Und das ganze Volk saß auf dem Platze des Gotteshauses, zitternd wegen der Sache und der Regengüsse.

Then were gathered together all the men of Judah and Benjamin unto Jerusalem, within three days, the same, was the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month, —and all the people remained in the broadway of the house of God, trembling concerning the thing, and because of the heavy rains.

10 Da stand der Priester Esdras auf und sprach zu ihnen: "Ihr habt dadurch gefrevelt, daß ihr heidnische Weiber heimgeführt, um Israels Schuld zu mehren.

Then arose Ezra the priest, and said unto them, Ye, have acted unfaithfully, and have married foreign women, —to add unto the guilt of Israel.

11 Nun legt ein Bekenntnis vor dem Herrn, dem Gott eurer Väter, ab, und tut seinen Willen! Trennt euch von den Ländervölkern und von den fremden Weibern!"

Now, therefore, make confession unto Yahweh God of your fathers, and do his pleasure, —and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women.

12 Die ganze Gemeinde rief mit lauter Stimme: "Wie du zu uns gesagt, ist zu tun.

Then responded all the convocation and said, with a loud voice, —Thus, according to thy word concerning us, must it be done.

13 Das Volk aber ist zahlreich. Auch ist Regenzeit. Man kann nicht im Freien weilen. Auch ist es keine Sache für einen oder zwei Tage. Denn wir haben mannigfach in dieser Sache gefrevelt.

Nevertheless, the people, are many, and, the season, is that of the heavy rains, and we are not able to stand outside, —and, the business, is not one for a single day, nor yet for two, for we have abundantly transgressed, in this thing.

14 Unsere Obersten mögen für die ganze Gemeinde tagen! Dann können alle, die in unseren Städten fremde Weiber heimgeführt, zur bestimmten Zeit kommen und mit ihnen die Ältesten und Priester jeder Stadt, um unseres Gottes Zornesglut von uns in dieser Sache abzuwenden."

Let, we beseech thee, our rulers take up their station for all the convocation, and, all who, throughout our cities, have married foreign women, let them come in at times appointed, and, with them, the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the glow of the anger of our God be turned from us, concerning this matter.

15 Nur Jonatan, Azales Sohn, und Jachzela, Tikwas Sohn, traten dagegen auf, und Mesullam und der Levite Sabai standen ihnen bei.

Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, made a stand against this, —and, Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, helped them.

16 Aber die Söhne der Gefangenschaft handelten recht. So sonderte sich der Priester Esdras Männer, Familienhäupter, nach den einzelnen Familien aus, alle namentlich aufgezeichnet. Und sie hielten die erste Sitzung an dem ersten Tage des zehnten Monats, um die Sache zu untersuchen.

But the Sons of the Exile, did thus, and Ezra the priest separated to himself certain men—ancestral heads by their ancestral houses, and all of them by name, —and they took their seats on the first day of the tenth month to search into the matter;

17 Und sie wurden mit all den Männern fertig, die fremde Weiber heimgeführt, bis zum ersten Tage des ersten Monats.

and they made an end with all the men who had married foreign women, —by the first day of the first month.

18 Da fanden sich auch unter Priestersöhnen solche, die fremde Weiber heimgeführt hatten, von den Söhnen Jesuas, des Sohnes Josadaks, und seiner Brüder Maaseja und Eliezer, Jarib und Gedalja.

Now there were found, of the sons of the priests, who had married foreign women, —of the sons of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brethren, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah;

19 Sie gaben aber ihre Hand darauf, ihre Weiber zu entlassen. Ihr Schuldopfer war ein Widder für ihre Schuld.

and they gave their hand, that they would put away their wives, —and, being guilty, [they offered] a ram of the flock for their guilt.

20 Und von den Söhnen Immers: Chanani und Zebadja.

And, of the sons of Immer, Hanani, and Zebadiah.

21 Und von den Söhnen Charims: Maaseja, Elia, Semaja, Jechiel und Uzzia.

And, of the sons of Harim, Maaseiah and Elijah and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.

22 Und von den Söhnen Paschurs: Eljoënai, Maaseja, Ismael, Netanel, Jozabad und Elasa.

And, of the sons of Passhur, Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasar.

23 Und von den Leviten Josabad, Simi und Kolaja, das ist Kelita, Petachja, Jehuda und Eliezer.

And, of the Levites, Jozabad and Shimei, and Kelaiah, the same, is Kelita, Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

24 Und von den Sängern Eljasib und von den Torhütern Sallum, Telem und Uri.

And, of the singers, Eliashib. And, of the doorkeepers, Shallum and Telem and Uri.

25 Und von Israel, von den Söhnen des Paros Ramja, Izzia, Malkia, Mijjamin, Eleazar, Malkia und Benaja.

And, of Israel, of the sons of Parosh, Ramiah and Izziah and Malchijah and Mijamin and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

26 Und von den Söhnen Elams Mattanja, Zekarja, Zechiel, Abdi, Jeremot und Elia.

And, of the sons of Elam, Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.

27 Und von den Söhnen Zattus Eljoënai, Eljasib, Mattanja, Jeremot, Zabad und Aziza.

And, of the sons of Zattu, Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.

28 Und von den Söhnen Bebais Jehochanan, Chananja, Zabbai, Atlai.

And, of the sons of Bebai, Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.

29 Und von den Söhnen Banis Messullam, Malluk, Adaja, Jasub, Seal und Ramot.

And, of the sons of Bani, Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, Jeremoth.

30 Und von den Söhnen Pachatmoabs Adna und Kelal, Benaja, Maaseja, Mattanja, Besalel, Binnui und Menasse.

And, of the sons of Pahath-moab, Adna and Chelal, —Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

31 Und von den Söhnen Charims Eliezer, Isija, Malkija, Semaja, Simon,

And, [of] the sons of Harim, Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon;

32 Benjamin, Malluk, Semarja.

Benjamin, Malluch, Shemariah.

33 Von den Söhnen Chasums Mattenai, Mattatta, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jemai, Menasse, Simi.

Of the sons of Hashum, Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, —Jeremai, Manasseh, Shimei.

34 Von den Söhnen Banis Maadai, Aram und Uël,

Of the sons of Bani, Maadai, Amram, and Uel;

35 Benaja, Bedja, Keluhi,

Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhu;

36 Wanja, Meremot, Eljasib,

Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib;

37 Mattanja, Mattenai und Jaasaw.

Mettaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasu;

38 Und von den Söhnen Binnuis Simi,

and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei;

39 Selemja, Natan, Adaja,

and Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah;

40 Maknadebai, Sasai, Sarai,

Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai;

41 Azarel, Selemja, Semaria,

Azarel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah;

42 Sallum, Amarja, Joseph.

Shallum, Amariah, Joseph.

43 Von den Söhnen Nebos Jejel, Mattija, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel und Benaja.

Of the sons of Nebo, Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, —Iddo, and Joel, Benaiah.

44 Alle diese hatten fremde Weiber genommen. Es fanden sich unter ihnen auch Weiber, die Kinder geboren hatten.

All these, had taken foreign women, —and had begotten of them children.
