Hesekiel 35

1 Das Wort des Herrn erging an mich:

Yahweh gave me another message. He said,

2 "Auf, Menschensohn! Richt dein Gesicht nach dem Gebirge Seïrs hin und prophezeie ihm

“You human, turn toward Edom and prophesy what will happen to its people. Say that this is what Yahweh says to them:

3 und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der Herr, der Herr: 'Ich will an dich, Gebirge Seïr, und strecke meine Hand aus wider dich und mache dich zur öden Wüstenei.

‘You who live near Seir Mountain [in Edom], I am opposed to you, and I will use my power [MTY] to strike you and cause your country to become a wasteland.

4 In Schutt verwandle ich dir deine Städte; du selbst sollst eine Wüste werden, daß du erfährst: Ich bin der Herr.

I will cause your country to be ruined and desolate. When that happens, people will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].

5 Weil ewige Feindschaft du gehegt, die Söhne Israels dem Schwert entgegentriebst zu ihrer Unglückszeit, zur Zeit, da Missetat zum Ende führte,

You have always been enemies of the Israeli people. You [rejoiced] when they experienced a great disaster: [their enemies attacked them with] swords, when I punished them [for the sins that they had committed].

6 darum, so wahr ich lebe', ein Spruch des Herrn, des Herrn, 'ich mache dich zu Blut. Blutschuld verfolge dich! Da du nicht feind dem Blutvergießen warst, verfolg' dich selber blutige Schuld!

Therefore, I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that as surely as I am alive, I will allow [your enemies] to slaughter [MTY] you and continue to slaughter you. You were happy when [LIT] others were slaughtered;

7 Ich mache das Gebirge Seïr zur öden Wüste, und was da kommt und geht, vertilge ich daraus.

so I will cause Seir Mountain to be abandoned/deserted, and I will get rid of anyone who enters it or leaves it.

8 Ich fülle deine Berge mit Erschlagnen an. Auf deinen Hügeln und in deinen Tälern, an allen deinen Bächen liegen Schwertdurchbohrte.

I will cause your mountains to be filled with [the corpses of] those who have been killed. The corpses of those who have been killed by [your enemies’] swords will lie on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines.

9 Ich wandle dich in ewige Wüstenei, und deine Städte bleiben unbewohnt, daß ihr erfahrt, daß ich der Herr.

I will cause your land to be deserted forever. No one will live in your towns again. When that happens, you will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].

10 Weil du gesagt: "Zwei Völker und zwei Länder sind jetzt mein. Wir wollen in Besitz sie nehmen", und doch ist dort der Herr;

You people said, “Israel and Judah will become ours. We will take over their territory!” You said that even though I, Yahweh, was still there [and protecting them].

11 darum, so wahr ich lebe', ein Spruch des Herrn, des Herrn, 'verfahre ich, wie es dein Zorn verdient und deine Eifersucht, mit der du gegen sie in deinem Haß verfahren. Ich mach mich dadurch kenntlich, daß ich dich strafe.

Therefore, I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that as surely as I am alive, I will punish [MTY] you for being angry with my people, envying them, and hating them.

12 Und du erfährst, daß ich, der Herr, all deine Lästerungen angehört, die gegen Israels Gebirg' du ausgestoßen: "Es ist zur Wüstenei geworden und uns zum Fraße überlassen".

Then you will know that I, Yahweh, have heard all the disgusting things that you have said about the mountains in Israel. You said that they have been ruined/devastated, and that they have been given to you to occupy [MET].

13 Ihr führtet Prahlereien gegen mich in eurem Mund, und führtet freche Reden wider mich. Ich selber hörte es.'"

When you insulted me, I heard all that you said about me.

14 So spricht der Herr, der Herr: "Ich mache dich zur Wüste, aller Welt zur Freude.

So this is what I, Yahweh the Lord, say: You people who live on Seir Mountain and in all the other places in Edom, when I cause your land to become desolate, everyone in the entire world will rejoice.

15 Wie deine Freude über Israels verwüstetes Gebiet verdient, also verfahre ich mit dir. Zur Wüste soll Seïrs Gebirge werden, in seinem ganzen Umfang Edom, daß man erfährt, daß ich der Herr."

You were happy when the land [MTY] of the Israeli people became desolate, so I will cause your land to become desolate. When that happens, people will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].’”
