Hesekiel 19

1 "Stimm an ein Klagelied, die Klage auf die Fürsten Israels

Moreover, take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,

2 und sprich: 'Was war doch deine Mutter? Nicht eine Löwin zwischen Löwen, die unter Jungleu'n ihre Jungen großgezogen?

and say: How was thy mother a lioness; among lions she couched, in the midst of the young lions she reared her whelps!

3 Sie brachte eins von ihren Jungen in die Höhe; dies ward ein Jungleu. Er lernte Beute machen und fraß Menschen.

And she brought up one of her whelps, he became a young lion; and he learned to catch the prey, he devoured men.

4 Da rief man Heidenvölker gegen ihn zusammen; in ihrer Grube wurde er gefangen. Man brachte ihn mit Nasenringen ins Ägypterland.

Then the nations assembled against him, he was taken in their pit; and they brought him with hooks unto the land of Egypt.

5 Sie sah, daß ihre Hoffnung rettungslos gescheitert. Sie nahm ein andres ihrer Jungen, um es zum Löwen zu erziehen.

Now when she saw that she was disappointed, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.

6 Und zwischen Löwen ward er selbst ein Löwe; er lernte Beute machen und fraß Menschen,

And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion; and he learned to catch the prey, he devoured men.

7 mißhandelte die Witfrauen, verheerte ihre Städte. Das Land und was darin entsetzte sich ob seines lauten Brüllens.

And he knew their castles, and laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, because of the noise of his roaring.

8 Da legten gegen ihn die Heiden aus den Ländern ringsumher die Netze aus und breiteten sie über ihn. Gefangen wurde er in ihrer Grube.

Then the nations cried out against him on every side from the provinces; and they spread their net over him, he was taken in their pit.

9 Sie zogen ihn mit Ringen in den Käfig und führten ihn zu Babels König. Sie setzten ihn in einen Turm, so daß man nimmer seine Stimme hörte auf den Gebirgen Israels.

And they put him in a cage with hooks, and brought him to the king of Babylon; that they might bring him into strongholds, so that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.

10 Wie du war deine Mutter wie ein Weinstock, verpflanzt an Wasserläufe, fruchtbar, zweigereich vom vielen Wasser.

Thy mother was like a vine, in thy likeness, planted by the waters; she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.

11 Er hatte starke Rebstöcke, die sich zu Herrscherstäben eigneten. Er ragte in dem Laubwerk hoch empor; durch seine Größe, seiner Ranken Menge fiel er auf.

And she had strong rods to be sceptres for them that bore rule; and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she was seen in her height with the multitude of her tendrils.

12 Da ward durch einen heißen Wind er ausgerissen und auf den Boden hingeworfen. Der Ostwind machte seine Früchte dürr, und seine starken Stöcke wurden abgerissen und verdorrten; dann fraß sie Feuer vollends auf.

But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit; her strong rods were broken off and withered, the fire consumed her.

13 Und nun ist er verpflanzt in eine Wüste, in dürres, durstiges Land.

And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground.

14 Ein Feuer ging von einem rankenreichen Rebstock aus, und seine Frucht verzehrte es. Kein starker Rebstock war an ihm zum Herrscherstabe tauglich. Kläglich ward er so und bot zu einem Klagelied den Stoff.'"

And fire is gone out of the rod of her branches, it hath devoured her fruit, so that there is in her no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule.' This is a lamentation, and it was for a lamentation.
