Daniel 4
1 König Nebukadrezar an alle Völker, Stämme, Zungen, die auf der ganzen Erde wohnen: "Mit euch sei vielmals Frieden!
Nabugodonosor, the kyng, writith thus to alle puplis and langagis, that dwellen in al erthe, pees be multiplied to you.
2 Es hat mir nun gefallen, euch die Zeichen und die Wunder, die der höchste Gott an mir getan, zu künden.
Hiy God made at me myraclis and merueils;
3 Wie groß sind seine Zeichen, wie gewaltig seine Wunderwerke! Es ist sein Reich ein ewig Reich, und seine Macht reicht von Geschlechte zu Geschlecht."
therfor it pleside me to preche hise myraclis, for tho ben greet, and hise merueils, for tho ben stronge; and his rewme is an euerlastynge rewme, and his power is in generacioun and in to generacioun.
4 "Ich, der König Nebukadrezar, ich lebte friedlich einst in meinem Hause, in meinem Schlosse glücklich.
I, Nabugodonosor, was restful in myn hous, and flourynge in my paleis;
5 Da hatte ich ein Traumgesicht, das mich erschreckte. Auf meinem Lager wirrten sich mir die Gedanken, die Gesichte meines Hauptes.
Y siy a dreem, that made me aferd; and my thouytis in my bed, and the siytis of myn heed disturbliden me.
6 Da wurde der Befehl von mir gegeben, alle Weisen Babels vor mich herzubringen, damit sie mir des Traumes Deutung gäben.
And a decre was set forth bi me, that alle the wise men of Babiloyne schulden be brouyt in bifor my siyt, and that thei schulden schewe to me the soilyng of the dreem.
7 Da traten die Wahrsager, Zauberer, Chaldäer, Zeichendeuter ein, und ich erzählte ihnen von dem Traum; doch seine Deutung konnte mir nicht einer geben,
Than false dyuynours, astronomyens, Caldeis, and biholderis of auteris entriden; and Y telde the dreem in the siyt of hem, and thei schewiden not to me the soilyng therof, til the felowe in office,
8 bis endlich Daniel vor mir erschien, der Baltasar nach meines Gottes Namen heißt und der den Geist des heiligen Gottes in sich hat. Auch ihm erzählte ich den Traum:
Danyel, to whom the name was Balthasar, bi the name of my God, entride in my siyt, which Danyel hath the spirit of hooli goddis in hym silf; and Y spak the dreem bifor hym.
9 'O Baltasar, du Größter aller Wahrsager, der du, wie ich wohl weiß, den Geist des heiligen Gottes in dir trägst, dem kein Geheimnis unenthüllbar ist, sag mir den Traum, den ich geschaut, und seine Deutung!
Balthasar, prince of dyuynouris, whom Y knowe, that thou hast in thee the spirit of hooli goddis, and ech sacrament, ether preuytee, is not vnpossible to thee, telle thou to me the visiouns of my dreemes, whiche Y siy, and the soilyng of tho.
10 Dies war auf meinem Lager meines Hauptes Gesicht: Ich schaute hin, da sah ich mitten auf der Erde einen Baum von außerordentlicher Höhe.
This is the visioun of myn heed in my bed. Y siy, and lo! a tree was in the myddis of erthe, and the hiynesse therof was ful greet.
11 Groß war der Baum und stark; sein Gipfel reichte bis zum Himmel, und sichtbar war er bis ans Ende der ganzen Erde.
And the tree was greet and strong, and the heiythe therof touchide heuene, and the biholdynge therof was `til to the endis of al erthe.
12 Sein Laubwerk war sehr schön und seine Früchte überreich, und Nahrung gab's an ihm für alle. Es ruhten unter ihm die wilden Tiere; des Himmels Vögel nisteten in seinen Zweigen; und alles Fleisch ernährte sich von ihm.
The leeuys therof weren ful faire, and the fruyt therof was ful myche, and the mete of alle was in it; beestis and wielde beestis dwelliden vndur it, and briddis of the eir lyuyden in the braunchis therof, and ech man ete of it.
13 Da schaute ich in dem Gesichte meines Hauptes auf dem Lager; sieh, da kam ein heiliger Wächter aus dem Himmel.
Thus Y siy in the visioun of myn heed, on my bed. And lo! a wakere, and hooli man cam doun fro heuene,
14 Er rief mit lauter Stimme: "Fällt den Baum! Schlagt seine Äste ab und streift das Laub ihm weg! Streut seine Frucht umher! Fort flieh das Wild, das unter ihm geruht, aus seinen Zweigen fort die Vögel!
and he criede strongli, and seide thus, Hewe ye doun the tree, and kitte ye doun the bowis therof, and schake ye awei the leeuys therof, and scatere ye abrood the fruytis therof; beestis fle awei, that be vndur it, and briddis fro the bowis therof.
15 Nur seinen Wurzelstock laßt in der Erde! Man binde ihn jedoch mit eisernen und ehernen Fesseln an im Grase draußen! Laßt ihn benetzt vom Tau des Himmels werden; mit dem Wilde hab er Anteil an des Erdreichs Gras!
Netheles suffre ye the seed of rootis therof in erthe, and be he boondun with a boond of irun and of bras, in erbis that ben with out forth, and in the deew of heuene be he died, and his part be with wielde beestis in the erbe of erthe.
16 Sein Menschenherz soll umgewandelt und ein Tierherz ihm gegeben werden; sieben Zeiten sollen über ihn hinziehen!
His herte be chaungid fro mannus herte, and the herte of a wielde beeste be youun to hym, and seuene tymes be chaungid on hym.
17 Nach dem Beschluß der Wächter ist es angeordnet. Es ist der Heiligen Wunsch und Wille, daß die Lebenden erkennen, daß der Höchste Macht hat über das Königtum der Menschen und daß er es verleihen kann, wem er es will, und daß er selbst den Niedrigsten darüber setzen kann."
In the sentence of wakeris it is demed, and it is the word and axyng of seyntis, til lyuynge men knowe, that hiy God is Lord in the rewme of men; and he schal yyue it to whom euere he wole, and he schal ordeyne on it the mekeste man.
18 Ich schaute diesen Traum, ich, König Nebukadrezar. Du aber, Baltasar, sag mir, was er bedeutet! Denn keiner von den Weisen meines Reiches vermag mir eine Deutung vorzutragen. Doch du vermagst es; denn du hast den Geist des heiligen Gottes ja in dir.'"
Y, Nabugodonosor, the kyng, siy this dreem. Therfor thou, Balthasar, telle hastili the interpretyng, for alle the wise men of my rewme moun not seie to me the soilyng; but thou maist, for the spirit of hooli goddis is in thee.
19 Darauf ward Daniel, auch Baltasar genannt, für kurze Zeit ganz still, und was er dachte, machte ihn bestürzt; da hob der König an und sprach: "O Baltasar, laß durch den Traum und seine Deutung dich doch nicht verwirren!" Darauf sprach Baltasar: "Mein Herr! Ach, möchte doch der Traum nur denen gelten, die dich hassen, seine Deutung deinen Feinden!
Thanne Danyel, to whom the name was Balthasar, began to thenke priueli with ynne hym silf, as in oon our, and hise thouytis disturbliden hym. Forsothe the kyng answeride, and seide, Balthasar, the dreem and the interpretyng therof disturble not thee. Balthasar answeride, and seide, My lord, the dreem be to hem that haten thee, and the interpretyng therof be to thin enemyes.
20 Der Baum, den du gesehen hast, der groß und mächtig ist und dessen Gipfel an den Himmel reicht und den man auf der ganzen Erde sehen kann
The tree which thou siyest hiy and strong, whos heiythe stretchith `til to heuene, and the biholdyng therof in to ech lond,
21 und dessen Laub so wunderschön und dessen Frucht so reichlich ist, an dem es Nahrung gibt für alle und unter dem des Feldes Tiere ruhen, in dessen Zweigen auch des Himmels Vögel nisten,
and the faireste braunchis therof, and the fruyt therof ful myche, and the mete of alle in it, and beestis of the feeld dwellynge vndur it, and the briddis of the eir dwellynge in the boowis therof,
22 der Baum bist du, o König, der du groß und mächtig bist geworden. Es hat ja deine Größe zugenommen; sie reicht jetzt bis zum Himmel; deine Macht erstreckt sich bis ans Erdenende.
thou art, kyng, that art magnefied, and wexidist strong, and thi greetnesse encreesside, and cam `til to heuene, and thi power in to the endis of al erthe.
23 Und daß der König sah, wie aus dem Himmel niederstieg ein heiliger Wächter, also sprechend: 'So fällt den Baum! Zerstückelt ihn! Doch seinen Wurzelstock laßt in der Erde! Man binde ihn jedoch mit Eisen und mit Erz im Grase draußen an und lasse ihn benetzt vom Tau des Himmels werden; seine Nahrung hab er mit dem Wild gemein, bis sieben Zeiten über ihn dahingegangen sind!'
Sotheli that the kyng siy a wakere and hooli come doun fro heuene, and seie, Hewe ye doun the tree, and distrie ye it, netheles leeue ye the seed of rootis therof in erthe, and be he boundun with irun and bras, in erbis with out forth, and be he bispreynt with the deew of heuene, and his mete be with wielde beestis, til seuene tymes be chaungid on hym;
24 Dies ist die Deutung, König, und ein Beschluß des Höchsten ist's, ergangen gegen meinen Herrn, den König.
this is the interpretyng of the sentence of the hiyeste, which sentence is comun on my lord, the kyng.
25 Man stößt dich aus der Menschenwelt, und bei den wilden Tieren mußt du wohnen. Man gibt dir Gras wie Rindern zu verzehren und läßt dich von dem Tau des Himmels netzen. Und sieben Zeiten gehen über dich dahin, bis du zur Einsicht kommst, daß nur der Höchste Macht hat über das Königtum der Menschen und es verleihen kann, wem er es will.
Thei schulen caste thee out fro men, and thi dwellyng schal be with beestys and wielde beestis, and thou schalt ete hey, as an oxe doith, but also thou schalt be bisched with the dew of heuene, also seuene tymes schulen be chaungid on thee, til thou knowe, that hiy God is Lord `on the rewme of men, and yyueth it to whom euer he wole.
26 Daß man gebot, den Wurzelstock des Baumes zu belassen, dies bedeutet: Dein Königtum wird weiter für dich fortbestehn, wenn du des Himmels Macht erkannt.
Forsothe that he comaundide, that the seed of rootis therof, that is, of the tree, schulde be left, thi rewme schal dwelle to thee, aftir that thou knowist that the power is of heuene.
27 Laß deshalb meinen Rat, o König, dir gefallen! Mach deine Sünden wieder gut durch Almosen und deine Missetaten durch Güte gegen Arme! Vielleicht ist deinem Wohlergehen lange Dauer dann beschieden."
Wherfor, kyng, my counsel plese thee, and ayenbie thi synnes with almesdedis, and ayenbie thi wickidnessis with mercies of pore men; in hap God schal foryyue thi trespassis.
28 All dies kam über König Nebukadrezar.
Alle these thingis camen on Nabugodonosor, the kyng.
29 Nach Ablauf von zwölf Monaten erging er sich auf dem Palast zu Babel.
After the ende of twelue monethis he walkide in the halle of Babiloyne;
30 Da hob der König an und sprach: "Ist dieses nicht das große Babel, das ich zur königlichen Residenz erbaut kraft meiner Macht und zur Vermehrung meines Ruhmes?"
and the kyng answeride, and seide, Whether this is not Babiloyne, the greet citee, which Y bildide in to the hous of rewme, in the miyt of my strengthe, and in the glorie of my fairnesse?
31 Noch war das Wort im Mund des Königs, als schon vom Himmel eine Stimme kam: "Man kündigt dir, König Nebukadrezar, jetzt an: Das Königtum wird dir entzogen,
Whanne the word was yit in the mouth of the kyng, a vois felle doun fro heuene, Nabugodonosor, kyng, it is seid to thee, Thi rewme is passid fro thee,
32 und aus der Menschheit stößt man dich hinaus. Du mußt bei wilden Tieren hausen. Man gibt dir Gras wie Rindern zu verzehren. Und sieben Zeiten gehen über dich, bis du zur Einsicht kommst, daß nur der Höchste Macht hat über das Königtum der Menschen und es geben kann, wem er es will."

33 Im selben Augenblick erfüllte sich an Nebukadrezar das Wort: Er wurde aus der Menschheit ausgestoßen, verzehrte Gras gleich einem Rind, und von dem Tau des Himmels ward sein Leib benetzt, bis adlergleich das Haar ihm wuchs und vogelkrallengleich die Nägel wurden.
In the same our the word was fillid on Nabugodonosor, and he was cast out fro men, and he eet hey, as an oxe doith, and his bodi was colouryd with the deew of heuene, til hise heeris wexiden at the licnesse of eglis, and hise nailis as the nailis of briddis.
34 Doch nach Verlauf von vielen Tagen hob ich, Nebukadrezar, meine Augen gegen Himmel. Da ward mir wieder mein Verstand verliehen. Den Höchsten lobte ich und pries und rühmte hoch den ewig Lebenden.
Therfor after the ende of daies, Y, Nabugodonosor, reiside myn iyen to heuene, and my wit was yoldun to me; and Y blesside the hiyeste, and Y heriede, and glorifiede hym that lyueth with outen ende; for whi his power is euerlastynge power, and his rewme is in generacioun and in to generacioun.
35 Nicht einer, der auf Erden wohnt, kommt in Betracht. Er tut nach seinem Willen mit des Himmels Mächten, geradeso wie mit den Erdbewohnern, und niemand kann, ihm in die Arme fallend, zu ihm sprechen: 'Warum hast Du das getan?'
And alle the dwelleris of erthe ben arettid in to noyt at hym; for bi his wille he doith, bothe in the vertues of heuene, and in the dwelleris of erthe, and noon is, that ayenstondith his hond, and seith to hym, Whi didist thou so?
36 Es kehrte mein Verstand zur selben Zeit zu mir zurück, und meine Herrschermacht zur Ehre meines Königtums; auch meine frühere Gestalt erhielt ich wieder. Da suchten meine Edlen und Beamten wiederum mich auf. So ward ich wieder in die Königsherrschaft eingesetzt. Und größere Macht als je zuvor ward mir verliehen.
In that tyme my wit turnede ayen to me, and Y cam fulli to the onour and fairnesse of my rewme, and my figure turnede ayen to me; and my beste men and my magistratis souyten me, and Y was set in my rewme, and my greet doyng was encreessid grettir to me.
37 Drum lob und rühme ich und preise ich, Nebukadrezar, des Himmels König. Denn recht sind alle seine Werke, richtig seine Wege, und zu erniedrigen weiß er, die übermütig wandeln."
Now therfor Y Nabugodonosor herie, and magnefie, and glorifie the kyng of heuene; for alle hise werkis ben trewe, and alle his weies ben domes; and he may make meke hem that goon in pride.
